Alia Palace Hotel
Ranked #3 of 18 Hotels in Pefkohori
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 30 August 2009

We stayed at Alia Palace for two weeks at the beginning of August. When we checked into the hotel we were blown away by the views from reception, overlooking Pefkohori and the coastline. The pictures in the travel agents brochure and what we had seen on the Internet do not do the hotel justice!

The hotel grounds were very nice and extremely clean (The staff take a lot of pride in keeping the hotel to a high standard). We stayed in an apartment in the first block back from the hotel on the top floor and it had amazing views from the balcony. The room itself was basic, but was good enough for us and for the time we spent in it. There was also a TV and a fridge. The room was cleaned daily by the lovely, friendly cleaners who couldn't do enough for us and we always had clean towels.

The infinity pool was amazing and rarely felt busy (because of its nice size). Sunbathing around the pool was very relaxing and we never had any problems getting a bed. We did go to the beach on a couple of occasions though. We got the shuttle bus from the hotel, which dropped us off at a restaurant called Fiki. For the best, quietest part of the beach, head left along the beachfront until the last restaurant.

Yes the hotel is on a steep hill but as long as you are relatively fit and active you will have no problems walking up and down it. Lots of people would walk up and down the hill. We loved the exercise too! And for those less active people the hotel has a shuttle bus, which takes you to the town and beach and back.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful, especially Johanna (in customer relations) and Lisa (at the pool bar). The receptionists spoke good English and so did the waitresses/waiters, so we never experienced any communication problems.

We were only bed & breakfast and could not fault the breakfast buffet - there was enough variety so that we never got bored of what we were eating. We probably had dinner at the hotel as much as we ate out and were very impressed. Their fish and meat bbq nights, as well as their Italian night were fantastic. And we couldn't complain about dinner costing 12 euro per person when it was twice as much as that if you ate in one of the nice restaurants in town, although I would recommend eating out as there are some very nice traditional restaurants in the old town (Villa Elena) and the town itself (El Greco's and Balakis).

All in all, a fantastic stay in an impressive hotel with very good quality food and friendly and helpful staff. We look forward to staying at the hotel again one day.

My wife and I have just returned from the Alia Palace 'luxury' hotel and villas. I really don't enjoy writing bad reviews but ..........unfortunately it was disappointing overall.

The hotel was fine but by no means luxury. The room was cleaned and tidier each day and the cleaning staff did a fantastic job. The view from the pool over the town is excellent. The food at breakfast and (in the restaurant) at lunch was fine and the service was very good. The walk up from town to the hotel was steep but not overly arduous. The hotel ran a shuttle service but that was far too infrequent. Because the town is not the easiest place to get to & from and because the view was so good, the outside bar should have been a real plus point. Unfortunately the attitude of the evening bar staff was extremely rude and aloof. She clearly didn't want to be there herself or to have any customers. Fine we'll take our money somewhere else.
We were also led to believe that the hotel ran an a la carte restaurant in the evenings. Every night apart from Wednesdays (which they laid on a very good barbeque) there was a buffet which was geared towards the German palate.....mashed potatoes and sausages is fine at home but not what I want from a holiday in Greece.
On the hotel documentation it says the hotel has a gym..........if you call a knackered bike machine and a broken step-machine a gym, then yes the Alia Palace has a gym.
On two days during our two week break the pool, restauarant and bar were taken over by two weddings. We were told that everyone had to make way for the wedding. We were notified of this with by an A5 - size piece of paper stuck to the notice board amoungst many other notices. It was just accepted that was that the norm and we should all just push - off. It give the impression that the hotel management cared more about getting as many guests/functions in, rather than the individual customer. Hardly consistent with that of a luxury hotel! And I can't believe that from all the overseas locations to choose from, anyone would want sun-bathing strangers in their wedding photos.
Other points: not enough sun-beds around the pool. I don't want to get up every morning at 7am to get a bed, even if my European cousins do.
Oh and be wary, the Alia Palce has a habit over booking their rooms. During our stay Thomson Cook guests had to moved to a 3star hotel and bussed in to use the facilities. This is not the first time it has happened.
Pefkohori is far from a picturesque Greek town. The sea side strip - imagine a sunny Southend. Yes there is an old square half way into town, which is nice, but it doesn't gloss over the impression that the town planners must have consumed several bottles of Retsina before going about their work. We spent most nights just 4km along the coast at Hanioti. Much nicer.

We meet some nice people out there which made the experience much better. It isn't the worst hotel we have ever stayed in but it is certainly not luxury. We have stayed in much better, cheaper and more customer focussed Greek hotels. It may have the best location in Pefkori but that isn't saying much. Will not be going there again.

We had two weeks at the Alia Palace in July this year, and had a realy enjoyable time.
The location is beautiful and the views from the hotel pool are breathtaking, the hotel is very clean and comfortable and we never had any trouble getting a sunbed. The Guest Relations service (i.e. Johanna who is one of the owners of the hotel) was amazing and nothing was too much trouble. Johanna even arranged two excursions for us which were much more competitvely priced than our tour operator. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is set up on a hill and it is the views that initially swept us off our feet. The hotel itself is attractive and in keeping with surrounding architecture. There is a courtesy bus that can transport you up and down the hill but the walk is pleasant. The old part of the town is lovely and the people are very hospitibal. The pool and the pool side bar of the hotel however are the perfect place to relax and have a cheeky beer if you do not want to go anywhere and the prices are competative with those in town. The appearance and setting are not the only high points to this hotel; the staff are always polite and professional, attentive and great with our three children. We cannot fault this hotel and that is why it was our forth year visiting. Johanna (public relations)and her family have become friends and we just love it.

what i mean is that for a 5* hotel and 200euro per night it was a big disappointment.
The furniture very old, the cleaning unter average, the mini bar empty, no room service concerning that i have a 2 years old boy which at the time wanted warm milk 2 times a day.
Also at the pool the beach beds ware very very little related to the residents.
The 5 star hotels in Greece have no mats with alia palace pefkohori.

I have just arrived back from a week at the Alia Palace and i have to say it was the best hotel i have ever stayed in.
The pool was large and very well looked after and there was never any trouble finding a sun lounger so there was no need getting up early to put your towels on them to reserve.
They have a fantastic pool bar which serves bar snacks from around 12 midday to 3pm and the food was amazing. On the evening at the pool bar they serve cocktails and play music. The bar waitress lisa was great!!.
The main resturant was buffett, for breakfast it was a full american breakfast and a full english breakfast but also served continental ( ham, cheese, rolls, fruit and ceriels). The evening meal you had a lot to choose from such as Moussaka, Lamb chops, chicken dishes, roast dinners as well as other english, italian and greek dishes. The food was 5 star rating it was to die for , everything was cooked to perfection. One night they did a Arabic themed night with spicey food and another night it was BBQ. If you dont like these foods they will still put on the buffett. But food definatly was at a very very high standard.
The rooms were a decent size with a large double bed with all the standard items such as hairdryer, shampoo, shower gel etc and the room was cleaned every morning.
All the rooms in the hotel have sea views but the best block to be in for the views is the block right outsie reception. Room number 104 and 115 were the best with views.
There was a mini supermarket on site and i mean tiny, it was a size of a shoe box but had everything you needed such as nibbles, drink, alcohol, cigarettes, water toysm, newspapers etc.
The shuttle bus runs to the beach from 8am in morning till 5pm on the afternoon free of charge.
The staff are so friendly and polite and always went out the way to make sure we had an enjoyable holiday.
The town of Pefkohori was around a 15 minuite walk away through a short cut from the side of the hotel. Its ok to walk down but comming back up i would recommend a taxi which the rank can be found outside Mamos bar in the town.
The beach is shingle which is the only downside as it really hurts your feet but if you carry on walking the the right of the main part of the beach it starts turning to sand.
I do reccommend a fantastic beach called Crusso Village which if you get a taxt is a 10 min drive away and costs 10 euro but is definatley worth it. The sand is White and pure cystal clear waters like a beach in Barbados.
Overall a fantastic holiday and will definatly reture.

We stayed in Alia Palace for one week. We had an adjoining room for our two daughters aged 25 and 14. The room are adequate (but not really what I would call 5 star or what you would expect in the UK for a hotel with that sort of rating) and well air conditioned so no problems sleeping at night.

The staff were all exceptional and always helpful and polite. The hotel has a great pool and substantial views of the town below and the sea.

The food was to a very high standard and in abundance as the evening meal was buffet style.

Fitness doesn't actually exist although the brochure says that it is available. The jacuzzi is available but at an extra cost. Not sure I saw anyone use it during our time in the hotel. Two euros for a game of pool could become fairly expensive rather quickly.

The relative downside is that perched up on the higher point of the town gives it great views but also means that the short walk back to the hotel becomes from the town below becomes a bind and many of a certain disposition simply didn't bother leaving the poolside. The hotel do run a minibus shuttle service down to the town but it is too infrequent especially during the middle of the day and doesn't encourage you to pop down to have a wander.

We selected this hotel because of the proximity of the beach which in reality we didn't use as one visit to have a look round was all we needed to see it wasn't for us. In the end we were happy to relax by the poolside for the week.
