“Just fantastic!”
Reviewed 24 June 2008

Just returned from a 2 week stay at the Ioli Village Apartments in Pefkohori, Halkidiki.
Had a fabulous time! I cant see why people are complaining! Hotels and apartments in Greece are usually VERY BASIC, this apartment infact was the best i have stayed in! The cleaner came almost every day, apart from Sundays, which in my books is fair enough! The towels were changed every 3 days as was the bed linen!
The bar was brilliant to drink in and we had a full english there every morning! There is also a pool bar were they serve snacks, beverages and ice creams most of the day! And the pool itself is brilliantly layed out and pretty much well maintained! Great for keeping your eyes on the kids!!
There is an onsite shop which is ever so useful, also it sells that days papers from back home!
The beach is just a 5 minute walk away and the restaraunts, tavernas and shops are even closer all along a main road! There is also an old square with an English bar, and a couple of other shops etc there.
There are plenty of spots to choose from on the beach which is shingle but is ever so clean! Also along the whole strech there are shops and bars etc! I realy wanted to go scuba diving when we got there but we were told instead of speading around 60 euros just to buy a snorkel fro around 9 euros and go in the sea! Best thing i have ever done! Me and my partner always walked to the far end of the beach to the left of the pier! We had sunbeds outside a hotel which you just had to purchase a drink to use! We then went snorkling there were there was a sort of coral reef which was amazing! Ok it wasn't all the big coloured fish you would see if you payed the money but there was a nice variety and we saw fish upto 8 inches long! Its great also because you can be standing there looking down, and theres no fish! But just turn around and theres about 100 fish behind you at your feet waiting for you to start walking so that you kick up the pebbles for them to feed! It was amazing!
Only saw 1 cockraoch the whole time although there are alot of cats and dogs but they don't tend to bother you!
All in all it was a brilliant holiday and i want to go back to the exact same place next year which is unlike me as i like to try new places!
I would not recommend this place for people looking to go clubbing till the early hours unless you are willing to travel up to hanioti, which is only a 10 minute cab drive, as there are no nightclubs. This is more for families and couples.

Recently returned from a two wk nightmare holiday at this resort. Floors in the accomodation left your feet black, no air conditioning, phone in room did not work, accomodation was booked for two couples and a child and we were given one double room and bunk beds and a cot bed in the living area, stray dogs living and fighting on the complex, towels and sheets only changed four times, cleaners who arrived but appeared to do nothing, extreemly low standard accomodation how on earth it is awarded a three star I will never know. This was a holiday booked to treat our daughter. her partner and grandaughter to a relaxing holiday and it was far from it until we left the complex. The gardens and pictures of the complex make it look lovely but the truth is that it is far from lovely. Would I return, NEVER, has it put me off returning to Greece, YES.

We got back from Ioli Villages Pefkohori two days ago 22/9/07. Although our trip wasn't disastrous and we made a good time of what we had I would never stay in the accomodation or go to the resort again.

Staff were friendly and the English Breakfast @ 5.50 euros was nice although could of got better for less elsewhere...but everything else kinda lacked something in one way or another.

Our room no 110 was a ground floor room with a kitchen area consisting of bunk beds and a single bed, and then a seperate bedroom with two single beds, a bathroom and a front and back terrace. We were all given cleen sheets, but only brown fleeces to go over these in the night, which clearly had not been cleaned since the last people had used them or maybe even before that. The floor was filthy, everyday, our feet were black from walking accross it and under the beds there was the worst filth and dust i'd seen for a while! There was no airconditioning in any of the rooms, three of the lights in the living area alone didn't work. There was very very basic cooking facilities, a decent sized fridge with a freezer part at the top was the bonus of all.

The maids came in everyday bar sundays and one other day they didn't show, but I think for a room with 5 in we had four towels given to us every two to three days. In a nutshell we're really not sure what the maids were asked or paid to do, but trust me 'not alot' must of been the main thought!

The swimming pool was clean but not particularly child friendly although it had a childs pool, the depth of the main pool deep end was 2.7 metres and a worry with kids around. All of the flooring surrounding the pool was up and down and even I caught my foot a good couple of times. We didn't have to pay for sunbeds, why we would i'm not sure, but i did read that someone else had to. We did go late season and the feeling that you were the end of the batch was felt a good few times. The beer at the bar was 2.5 euros for a pint and food was fairly priced I guess, but only for what I would call take out food. The toilets surrounding the pool were always filthy with wet mud and this was end of season! with next to noone around.

The attached shop was ok, hardly anything on any of the shelves and what was there was pretty random. The shopkeeper, was a real nice guy who was always happy to help - although he couldn't decide which football team he supported haha.

Anna who either owns or runs Ioli Villages, was a really nice lady and helped us whenever we asked, would ring for taxis and answer any questions with no problems.

It wasn't the worst holiday and watch out if you book with Thomas Cook, the reps are real jobsworth - another story completely!

All in all, I enjoyed my holiday but did not really enjoy the place we stayed at. I can't say taht all the rooms were the same, as I did not see into any other, but the feeling from ours was poor.

We stayed 3 nights at the Ioli Village Hotel in Pefkochori, Greece. The hotel was a bargain! The grounds were immaculate, the rooms were large and the beach was a 5 minute walk away. When we chose this hotel, we were looking for a hotel near the beach in Pefkochori that had a pool and airconditioning for a reasonable price. There were 6 of us so we rented 2 rooms. The rooms were large and clean, although a bit dusty. The rooms were suites, consisting of a bedroom, bathroom and kitchen area with 3 more single beds. A drawback was that there was only airconditioning in the bedrooms, not in the kitchen area. Both rooms had two balconies. The room rate included breakfast. The staff was really nice. The pool was huge and was open until 7pm. Would definitely stay here again.

  • Liked — The price! Also the convient location and the helpfulness of the staff.
  • Disliked — The lack of airconditioning in the kitchen area

Just got back from a week spent at the Ioli Village apartments and would recommend it to most. Can't believe the bad reviews...
Received excellent service, Anna etc from the apartments were so helpful and friendly, and approachable and gave us plenty of advice. As we spent the last night of the trip in another city she even booked a hotel for us and told us all the places to visit/eat etc.
The rooms were basic - as expected - but had everything we needed, including water and tea/coffee/milk in the room on arrival. 3 of us stayed in the large apartment, which would easily have been big enough for a family of 5 (2 bedrooms, one with 2 beds and the other with a single and a big bunk bed) and had 2 balconies. The resort was about a 10 min walk from the beach / restaurants and bars. There was also a supermarket next to the hotel and bar, and a big pool which was very clean and costed about a euro per day for sunbeds (definitely recommended in that heat). Great restaurants too along the seafront. Take plenty of insect repellant though.
The resort was great too and had lots of bars but was not too commercial (maybe as it is not peak season yet) and had plenty of greek tourists too - especially at the weekends.
After a nightmare journey home (on Olympic Airways - delays after delays) I am sad to be home!

The hotel is set in lovely gardens and looks amazing from the exterior, its when you get inside that the problems begin. we had two apartments between the family. we arrived and the youngest child we had with us couldnt walk on the apartment floor without getting his feet filthy black, there wasnt a chance you could step out the shower and not have anything on your feet. the rooms were basic which is what i expected. we then asked to upgrade to a room with air conditioning, the quality of rooms was a bit better but in one apartment the balcony was loose, it actually came forward when someone lent on it. two window panes were missing from a window panel and the toilet seat didnt fit on the toilet. as you may know when in greece that no paper can go down the toilets and everything has to go in the bin next to you and you can imagine in a hot country the smells, and when we didnt get maid service for 3 days, th apartment wasnt smelling its best. we didnt get clean linen until the 2nd to last day or clean towels. we did complain and the manager simply said it was because it was a bank holiday. cannot fault the pool area, the food wasnt the greatest though.

  • Liked — the pool and the lovely gardens
  • Disliked — room comfort, general cleanliness of rooms and service
