“All right.”
Reviewed 6 December 2013

All right hotel. Very nice location, average pool area, nice rooms but horrendous food. That pretty much sums it up. The show that went on while we were there was completely ridiculous. The spa area is pretty cool, but nothing special. The breakfast was all right, but again; nothing special. The whole thing was all right. But... nothing special.

We stayed here during the week. Loved our room with a view of the lake. Beds are comfy. The pools are fun even if the chlorine smell is overpowering indoors. Breakfast had the most diversity of the places we stayed on this trip. They are very much understaffed at the front desk for such a huge hotel.

Ultimately though, we wuld never stay here again as they welcome high school groups that are clearly not being supervised by their chaperones. Running and screaming in the hallways all hours of the night!!! When confronted the kids did not respect the late hour and in my husbands face they laughed. The next day i watched a different kid snatch our do not disturb sign and i promptly had him return it to me. After that they kept banging on our door at all times of the night as payback for catching them in the act. This hotel needs to warn guests that it is a party hotel for kids on school trips, and that swedish teens do not show any respect.

Room Tip: Ask for lake side as the back faces the train station. The closer to the reception the louder the ha...

When you order you can sign on to a sales session for their 'time share' consept and get a weekend stay for abouth 1/2 price. (Well worth the 1-1,5 hours it takes)

Arrival at the hotel.

Hotel is easy to find. They have a large parking area and the trainstation is less than 100 meters away. (you can og directly from 2nd floor on the trainstation to the hotel's 2nd floor)

We arrived a bit early but they had an available room so we got to check in a couple of hours earlier than ordered. (Free of charge) Information at check inn could be better.

We had a Nice room towards the trainstation. Unfortunately the speaker on the station give plenty of warnings before the 06:00 morning Train so its hard to miss.. Sound isolation wasnt good.

Food:
Breakfast was a bit below what we expected but had good bread and a fanzy 'Belgium?' waffel maker. Our kids liked the icecream (unusual thing to offer at a breakfast..)

Dinner.
We tried the 18:00 buffet and got realy disipointed.
You had the choise of two hot dishes, salad and cheese. Kids could also get pomes frites and burger. Service was very slow in taking Our orders.

Bath area 'waterworld':
Nice area with one tube and an outdoor pool you could enter from inside the building. I was clearly expecting more. Most towns in midle parts of Norway got a better bath with tubes and so that is better. No swimingpool for those that whants that.

Training room:
Looked ok, but you need to pay a fee to use it.

Internett Access:
This was free of charge but Wireless Access was not working well from the rooms.

Summary:
Easy to find, and a very good location. Easy vacation for families with small kids that does not demand mutch from a 'waterworld'.

Service and Food is not what you expect, and waterworld is outdated compared to those on the Norwegian side of the border. Common areas gives you the feeling that it is not well kept and heavily used and the sportsbar had several games that was out of order.

Room Tip: Pay extra to get a room away from the Train station.

Might seem slightly expensive at first, but as a family of four, it surely paid off. Swim and pool area was quiet, clean and modern, not to mention free when staying at the hotel. There is also bowling, but unfortunately we didn't get to trying it. Reception area spectacular if you like space and rough design. Food ordered in the restaurant in the evening tasted very good. We had a room with a lake view, which was nice and quiet. The only drawback was the breakfast. There should be a greater variation of both cold and warm foods to choose from. But, over all, we're definitely coming back. Actually, I already regret posting this review, cause I wouldn't like competition in getting rooms here....

Sadly this large hotel would be great if there were quite not so many families with small and uncontrolled kids. The Swedes seem not to believe in giving their children any boundaries at all. Even the "Saunaworld" area is invaded in the evenings by noisy children. The only peace and quiet is in your room. We are a family with teenage kids, so realistic about noise. My own kids commented on the behaviour several times.

The pool area is huge and full. Again, not relaxing at all. Even the changing rooms are open plan and shared between men and women. Sauna world is great if it is quiet. Horrible if not. Lots of different saunas and ice showers. Good fun.

The food in the restaurant is not bad, but very expensive. For a country that prides itself on healthy living, we were amazed at the breakfast. No real fruit juice, and lots of processed meat and cheese. Edible though and served for hours.

Nice staff if you can find one. Our most uttered comment the whole week was that we could not believe how few staff can run a hotel, everything is self service and automated.

The facilities close very early, swimming pool, sauna, bowling etc. Not sure why since they are not staffed anyway? .

We have been quite shocked at the cost of everything here. The hotel has cost as much as a central London one for the week, and is not the same quality at all. It is not awful, just ok. An upmarket Novotel. We upgraded to a bedroom overlooking the lake with a balcony which makes a nice quiet view at least.

The beds are the usual cheap hard European ones. The staff did try to put something on them to improve the feel, but not great. At least there is a comfy sofa in the room! Usual tiny towels in the bathroom as well. The bathroom only has a shower and is very tired. There was mould on the shower when we arrived which on request was cleaned off!

For our first trip to Sweden we have had fun and found a couple of good places to eat in town, but the emphasis is on native Swedes and the information is hard to obtain for non Swedish language speakers on skiing, buses, routes, etc. The town is small and the skiing is very limited unless you have a car to get from one area to another. The buses stop running at .4.30 and the bars/restaurants on the slopes close before that! You have to calculate this in for the ski day.

This sounds a bit moany, but we did have fun! Just a lot poorer at the end of a week, and would not book again in a public holiday. Too busy.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the lake are nice with a balcony to sit on.

Lets start with our arrival at the hotel.

There is a lot off parking space around the hotel which is very handy when you come by car. And the trainstation is around 100m away from the main entrance.

At the reseption was a young girl that has never heard about the word service. We where rudly checked in and none information was given to us, exept the times for breakfast.

We walked to our room, and there was a funny smell in the corridors, which looked as if they had better times around 30 years ago.

Our room was quit big, but it smelt funny as well. And the bathroom looked like in a brochure for the place from 1970. Unfortunatlly our room was next to the train station, so we where always well informed about every train coming and leaving. And the sound isolation was not the best, we could hear every other guest walking past our door and talking normally perfect.

They advertise with 4 restaurants, which is in fact only 3 types off food at the same place (every type served at a different time off the day. And there is a sportsbar thats serves pizza.

Next to the sportsbar is a minigolf course which would be fun for the kids, but it looks like they have just bought it from a warzone in Syria.

The breakfast was nothing special, we are used to better (both food and service). But they have a pretty cool waffel maker.

There are as well a few positiv facts about the holiday Club Åre. They have a kind off waterworld, where you can overlook the lake while you swim. And there is a fitness room, taht looked okay (we did not use it).

And the location is very good. It is just a 5 minutes walk from the town center.

All in all we would not stay there again. For that price (over 400,- € for 2 nights starting on a sunday) you can stay much better in Åre. And as mentioned, the hotel seems very run down and old. I was very sure it was build somewhere between 1970 and 1980 by the looks, but as I heard later, it is from 2005.
The staff needs a course in service and they should hire more, as it seemed to us they where understafft both in the reseption and at breakfast.
A renovation would be about time.

Room Tip: Take a room away from the train station towards the lake

High standard and fine deco combined with in house shops, restaurant, sports bar, adventure pool, mini golf, spa, fitness, bowling and a sauna world. Cosy with regards to the size. Direct connected to town centre with more restaurants. Great location for a short break. Only negative I experienced was that outside the season and during the week, almost everything around the hotel was closed.

Something to look at if you want to go cheap, are their showing weekends. Because they even sell timeshare apartments and houses, from time to time they have special offers. A three day weekend for less than half of the standard rate, plus free access to the pool and sauna. Just sit through the presentation and say no if you are not interested (or yes if you are :)).
