We ended up staying 4 nights at Malens Strandpensionat run by the friendly owner Anneli who is a very helpful lady doing her utmost to make you feel welcome and at ease. The pension is located close to the sea at the eastern end of Båstad and it takes about 20 minutes to walk to the town centre along the beach. The pension has 4 rooms on the first floor of the owner´s lovely old wooden house all simply and beautifully decorated in Swedish romantic style - the rooms are light and very clean. All four rooms share a large bath room. A separate building houses a small apartment. A healthy breaktast is served by Anneli every morning and is included in the rate of SEK 800 per night for a double room (you get a discount if you stay for more than 2 nights).
We stayed during low season and everything was very quiet. Next to the pension you find an outdoor pool and I could imagine that things would be different during summer time but on the other hand also much nicer with everything green and lush.
While in Båstad we visited Hovs Hallar - a beautiful area consisting of high cliffs jutting out of the sea; we went skiing at Vallåsen ski centre; and we went for a spa treatment at Hotel Skansen (see my review on this) - all very commendable.
