The Pakse hotel is centrally located and handy to restaurants, coffee shops and bars. The restaurant on the roof is a great place to eat and provides good views of the town and the Mekong. The ground floor restaurant is an equally good alternative if the weather is bad. Staff are helpful and friendly and the rooms are adequately furnished.

Room Tip: Any room is fine.

The Pakse Hotel is probably the best available property in the town. The breakfasts are average but the view from the rooftop restaurant is very good including the Japanese bridge crossing the Mekong. The food is interesting and serves the purpose and probably the Lao offerings are better than the European alternatives. Avoid Namkhong the beer on offer since Beer Lao is far superior!!!
The rooms are pleasant with air-conditioning that works and Wi-Fi is available in the rooms. The bathrooms have been upgraded and are quite functional.
Reception staff are pretty good and some trips and a difficult transfer were arranged effectively and obligingly.

Room Tip: Avoid the cheaper rooms inside with no external windows. They are stuffier and since they face an in...

Booked one of the deluxe rooms with views towards the river. I was given a twin room even though I booked a double but didn't bother to complain. The rooms were clean and functional. I never was able to quite figure out the hot water heater for the shower which alternated between scalding and freezing.

I was disappointed with the tour advice given by the hotel which almost seemed borderline cheating. Head over to the various travel agencies towards the main drag for real, honest, and affordable tour advice. The bus ticket to Ubon Ratchathani was the only quote I got from the hotel that was the same as the quote from the travel agents. The rest of the hotel staff were slightly better than indifferent.

Room Tip: The Mekong river view rooms are worth the few extra bucks. If you're up early enough, the sunris...

We stayed at the Pakse hotel for 4 nights in total returning to the hotel after a trip to 4000 islands. The hotel was exceptional value for money, we were given an excellent room. Breakfast was included and was very good.
We got advice from the manager who was very helpfull about travelling onto Vietnam.
The staff were all very friendly and there was a first class rooftop restaurant.

The roof top cafe is a nice place to have a few drinks at sundown, and that the only positive thing i could say about this over-rated and pretentious dump!
That is unless you prefer to be in tourist or should I say traveler trap, where the only Lao your likely to see will be the gum chewing rude waiting staff.
Rooms dirty and over prices, food over priced and bland, the staff are having "a laugh" at the customers expense, ( i.e. cheating the guests with taxis, tuk - tuks, credit cards and more, on their own agenda).
Sorry L.P. guide, but things change.

This is a nice and good hotel in Pakse. The staff and manager are nice and friendly and allways help you with a smile. Breakfast very good value and food of a high standard. Wifi in the lobby. Nice roof top terrace with nice views at the mekhong and moutains. Verry good food (western and Lao) Covered and secured parking for motorbikes. We really enjoyed our stay.

Functional is the word for this hotel. Staff are not so friendly. Didnt get a positive feel from this place. Rooms are clean and fine for a comfortable stay in a pretty dingy town! Excursions to tad lo village on motorbike highly recommended, and tree top explorer 1 night with green discovery highly recommended! Pakse hotel was the in between stop off for these main events for us in Pakse and did the job.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Pakse Hotel & Restaurant is ideally located in the historical heart of the city. Pakse is your gateway to southern Laos. French colonial buildings, evening- and day markets, shops and services (banks, airlines, money exchange, ...), as well as Mekong and Sedon rivers are just around the corner from us. Built in the early 60's by the last Prince of Champassak, Chao Boun Oum, completely renovated in 2003 it now reaches International standards whilst the traditional colonial influence/feel is preserved. The panoramic restaurant atop the hotel has become meeting hub of the city, serving traditional Lao, Western and fusion food, complimented by great wines, cold beers and fancy cocktails. The restaurant is set in a wonderful open-air green environment, away from mosquitoes, air-conditioners and traffic annoyances. The view of the city and the Mekong from here is all but stunning. ... more   less
