“Wonderful staff”
Reviewed 26 March 2012

My wife and I had a delightful four night stay at this estancia, just outside the park. Although it is not a 5 star hotel, we loved the charm of this working ranch. The room we had was large and comfortable, with a view across to the towers of Torres del Paine. Jose, the manager, was delightful. He also spoke English, which was useful. Pisco sours early evening followed by a fabulous dinner, cooked my the wonderful Carmen and served up by Patricia. Everyone there is happy and they really work as a great team. They also catered for our needs as celiacs, so that was a big plus for us. One evening they had an asado and we sampled the fine Patagonian lamb, cooked in the traditional way, followed by some local dancing which we all took part in for fun. Amazing evening!
They have a have a stable of horses there too, and we had a great ride through the countryside. Only a couple of small things to note. Electricity is provided by a generator, which is turned off at midnight. Also, the track to the estancia is quite long with three gates to get through, but that’s part of the fun of staying on a remote estancia. Highly recommend this place, rather than paying a fortune in the park.

We stayed here for two nights and stared at the Torres for three days while also getting to see hundreds of wild llamas, rheas, condors, and a working ranch. We ate every meal at the ranch, and the food was homemade, local, and wonderful (only breakfast is included in the price of the room, but with all the meals included, our stay was still half the price of one of the all inclusives in the park). You can hike or take horses around the ranch, or get a transfer to the bus that takes you to the park. Getting to the park takes about an hour, but is much closer than Puerto Natales. There is no WiFi at the ranch and power is only available from about 8 to 12 at night, which was nice for us because it forced us to actually "turn off" after two and half weeks of travel. I would really recommend staying here a few days before or after a trek in the park to relax.

Imagine breakfast at sunset, or sitting by the fireplace in a rocking chair at sundown, with a superb frontal view of the Torres and the Paine mountains through panoramic windows. Imagine 5* hospitaility and refined cooking with 'corazon'. Picture all kinds of animals, wild and domestic, from guanaco's to nandu's and from sheep to foxes, playing criollo horses and a wide array of birds. Think of the nicest and most helpful people you know. Think of peace and tranquility inside and wild patagonian lands and fierce wind outside. Then go riding with a caballero and maybe have some roast lamb. Tercera Barranca was our 25 day Patagonia dream come true.
