We have just spent a week at Villa Jerkan and had a wonderful time. We were picked up by car for a comfortable journey to the hotel and were really happy when we arrived and were shown to our room...number 16, second floor. The view from our good size balcony was amazing, forward looking over the Adriatic and to the right we could see Split in the distance. No extra charge for this view, it comes as standard!! The whole hotel was so clean, every day the place was cleaned top to bottom and twice during our week the towels were changed. There is not much to do in Podstrana, you can lay on the sunbeds on the private 'beach' (not sand unfortunately, more like gravel) or take a walk along the waterside path to a local coffee bar or three nearby restaurants for meals in the evening. We found it really relaxing, we all just chilled out. There is a good bus service to Split, buses run twice an hour and the bus stop is close by. There is also a private bus that runs and it is a little bit cheaper! From Split you can do sightseeing, take a boat trip around the islands...and eat cheaply at some amazing restaurants. The market seemed to be open every day for cheap shopping...if you haven't taken them with you, you can buy beach shoes here for 50 kuna...a must on the beach back at Podstrana.

For food there is a local supermarket and we found most things that we needed. You will need to do your own breakfast, we did not find anywhere to eat out in the morning NOTE: cooking facilities are just two hot plates, no oven, so you will be having a continental style breakfast or cereal! Good size fridge so room for the essentials and beer! Two litres of beer worked out around £3.00.

Jerko, the owner, is a character...very friendly and chatty. Just ask and he will do what he can to help or provide. We wanted to use the oven in the hotel kitchen which was not a problem as long as we left it clean and tidy.

All in all this was one of the best holidays that we have had.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony to the front of the property to benefit from the best views

Grat location on the private plebby beach. Very clean. Decent dimension of room. Huge potential to have a great holiday.

But the owner knows how to ruin it.

The villa is runned by Jerko, an old salesman who have a bunch of rules in his head and he treats his guests as he treated his sailors.

We made the reservation in early spring of 2013 via booking.com. One week later we asked by e-mail if we can pay with paypal and the answer was "yes".

We got there in September. We tried to pay at arrival, but Jerco refused. In the day before chec-out, Jerco called me to come and make the payment. He asked to make the payment in cash or with credit card. I've reminded him that he agreed with pay-pal payment. In this moment he started to yell and sewar (literally) and he asked a 50% fee for this kind of transaction. He even called his son witch attitude was extremely brutal.

Finally, after 1 hour of talkings, swears and yells, they dropped the fee and accepted the payment they agreed half year earlyer.

The review before about rasism is true as well. I noticed several times rasial expressions and oppinions in his speach.

Really strange guys.

I will not reccomend this place to others.

We spent a week in Villa Jerkan and it's a great base for exploring the surrounding area and even making a few trips over to see the islands. Our very genial host was most friendly and welcoming throughout. The apartment block has it's own frontage and plenty of sunbeds, with a bar service if required. You can walk up along the seashore towards Split where are a few good restaurants. Car parking is about 5 minutes walk. There is a good supermarket and bakery close by. The apartment itself was a little cramped for 4 people (2 adults, 2 kids) but more than adequate with a very nice balcony view over the sea. I would have no hesitation in recommending Villa Jerkan.

We came just for a weekend and the villa was great! The place is very clean, we stayed in flat 12, which was overlooking the beach! The beach itself is at the doorstep ( literally) and you have free sun beds! The place is equipped with WiFi and for your convenience, there is a small shop open till late 300 m away. (Aircon, TV, kitchenette) Just perfect!
Just don't forget a good book, possibly an inflatable and some wet shoes ( it's pebbles and gravel but sand 1 m from the shore), and you'll be in paradise! Thanks to Jerko and his stories! He made us feel extremely welcome!!

Two of us stayed in 1st floor studio 12 for 9 days this month, Sept 2012.

Very convenient with the beach on the door step. Although pebbled the beach proved easy access to the sea, gently shelving and fine sand within a metre or so out from the tide line. With loungers for free use and fixed sun shades it proved ideal for a beach holiday and others with young children in their parties found the sea safe & sheltered.

Good base for access to Split and other coastal towns by public transport by bendy busses or airconditioned transit minibuses, both from stops on the busy road behind the villa.

Not much people watching possible in Podstrana, but trips to Split & Trogdir puts you in with the cafe society and masses of daytrippers & cruise line groups.

Very amiable hosts and incredibly clean common areas and rooms. Three restaurants within 1/4hr walk those on the beach with fantastic sunset views on most days. We on used the Jure but i'm sure the others would have been fine

We spent a relaxing two week Summer holiday at Villa Jerkan. It is located at the beach so we could simply walk from our room to free sunbeds and take it easy (or e.g. use the free Wi-Fi of Villa Jerkan). Alternatively we could just walk to any of the restaurants at the same long free beach and have a lunch/dinner. Villa Jerkan at Podstrana was also a very good base for our excursions to neighbouring Split and other towns nearby. We even did not need to rent a car because bus stops were so close. Jerko and his staff were extremely helpful and friendly to us and all other guests. Jerko's son Marko even transported us from/to Split Airport.

Jerko and Villa Jerkan were wonderful!

My wife and I stayed at Villa Jerkan for three nights at the beginning of our honeymoon in July, 2009. When we arrived (after midnight), we were greeted warmly by Jerko with a carafe of red wine. Over the next hour, we drank and talked with Jerko in the majestic, open-air patio on the ground floor of his hotel facing the Adriatic Sea. Jerko was extremely friendly--a funny and charming ex-sailor eager to learn about our lives and to tell us stories of his own. During our stay, Jerko invited us into his own home not far from the hotel. We met his wife and his dog (a Jack Russell named...Jack!), enjoyed an afternoon drink of Croatian liquor in his parlor, ate huge juicy peaches from his peach trees, and toured his olive garden. Throughout our entire stay, we found Jerko to be extremely pleasant and totally genuine. We've travelled a fair amount in Europe (my wife even lived there for a time). Jerko was the best host either of us has ever met.

Besides Jerko, the hotel was excellent. The entire building was immaculately clean. Our room and bathroom very big (by European standards) and tastefully furnished with marble (maybe it was travertine or something else...I don't remember) and cool blue and green colors. We had a nice-sized balcony on the top floor that faced the Adriatic. Sunrises and sunsets by the tops of the palm trees were incredible. It was great to have meals on the balcony as well (there's a grocery not far from the hotel...be careful crossing the road!) Fresh fruit, yogurt, bread, olives, cheese, pizza, beer, wine, etc. looking out over the drowsy Adriatic in July...

Podstrana was also excellent. It's a peaceful, down-tempo stretch of beachfront villas, small boats, restaurants, and cafes along the Adriatic. Despite this amazing location, it had zero pretension. We loved walking along the coast to find a place to relax for a drink or just to take in the people on a summer night. It's a short ride into Split, which is certainly worth a day of sight-seeing and eating...amazing octopus salad. From Split, you can easily take day trips on car or passenger ferries to places like Brac and Hvar (stay a couple nights here if you can...). We had a car and found that getting around Croatia was ridiculously easy despite the fact that words and place-names generally have eighteen consonants per one vowel.

Overall, we would highly recommend staying at Villa Jerkan to other couples or small families who travel well together. If it helps to put things in context, my wife and I are Americans. When we travelled to Podstrana, she was twenty-six and I was twenty-eight. She was a grad student, and I worked in an elementary school. We were traveling on a budget. Like I said earlier, we had travelled some in Europe before. We were living in Honolulu (Waikiki) at the time, and, yes, we were that impressed by the natural beauty of Podstrana, the Croatian coast-line, and the Croatian interior (Plitvice National Park is heavenly...). Jerko is an amazing host. The hotel is beautiful. Podstrana is a perfect launch pad to explore Split and the surrounding areas.

The only disclaimers I would put on Villa Jerkan are:
-Don't be surprised if you miss the driveway the first one or two times. We came in late, and it was a bit hard to see.
-If you're going to the grocery store (...or Jerko's house!), be careful crossing the main road. It's madness at times.

-If you meet Jack, watch out. He's got sharp, little dog teeth! (Just kidding...he was a puppy then.)

Room Tip: Ask for a high balcony facing the Adriatic!
