“Well appointed apartments in Podstrana, Split”
Reviewed 31 May 2011 for a stay in May 2011

We had an apartment for 3 but there were only 2 of us staying. The apartment had everything we needed with good views of the sea, nice surroundings, and a good bus service right outside. There is a church with a clock that chimes every hour beside the apartments but we soon got used to it. Cooking facilities were basic with 2 hotplates, sink unit and crockery for 3. We ate out most of the time but cooked light food and had hot drinks. Apart from a couple of restaurants and a supermarket there isn't much else in Podstrana. I nicknamed it apartment alley but it is handy for Split and Omis, a very pretty town on the Cettina river. You must visit Omis and take a trip up the river and visit the old town with its very narrow streets. The beach in Podstrana is shingle and a bit narrow but there was no one on it when we stayed, you would need to take your own towel to sit/lie on as it is a public beach and there are no sunbeds/chairs etc. Do your research before you go because we didn't find much in the way of maps etc to show us the local beauty spots or places to go. There is a free basic map of the Palace in the information office in Diocletian's Palace in Split, a Palace you must visit. Shops, restaurants and the old Palace all within the Palace confines, very interesting. On the way to the airport on our return home we found out there were many places to visit just outside Split but information was hard to obtain while we were there. Not much English spoken and the people are a bit reserved, rather like the English. In fact, Croatia was much like England only more mountainous. We had an enjoyable time for the week we were there.
