“Only english speaking guests in hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2010

We booked for a weeks holiday online and though a lot of the reviews by previous guests were in German, there were some English ones so thought nothing of it. As it turned out we were the only english speaking guests in the hotel. This was not a problem as all the staff spoke english and we had a car so could travel to other resorts to interact with English visitors. All the staff were very helpful, efficient and friendly. The food was naturally biased towards German tastes and was generally good if not a bit predictable. My partner is a non-meat eater and hot dish choice was not very good in this respect (fish only once in the week). The hotel room was clean and pleasant but tea/coffee making facilities were not provided and were sorely missed. As in most of Greece the swimming pool was not heated which is a bit of problem in late season. Swimming in the sea is a better option. There was free outdoor table tennis, but the bats had lost their rubber covering. An outdoor pool table charges 2 Euro which is a bit much when the cues have no tips. The plastic covered sun loungers have no cushions so are uncomfortable if you want to spend any length of time sunbathing and reading. We drove to Roda 10 minutes away where they have very comfortable ones on the beach ( 7 Euro for two and umbrella all day). Although all the outdoor areas of the hotel were to a good standard my impression was that pool area would have been inadequate in size if the hotel and its studios were full in high season. The narrow beach is sandy with a few feet of pebbles from the waters edge that you have to negotiate. The beach gradually shelves so is ideal for children and non-confident sea swimmers. There are tavernas nearby on the beach but the bar snacks offered at lunchtime in the hotel bar are reasonably priced. The resort itself stretches for about a mile along the busy main road and as I read in one travel book review "reminds you a bit of an American mid-west truck stop". This is not a pretty Greek village though there are lots of facilities.

The rooms were all newly refurbished and we chose the studio rooms which gave us more room (the fridge is very useful). During our 2 weeks there we only had 4 nights entertainment. During the day there was darts, pool and water arobics and water polo. The one pool was closed part of our holiday and the pool bar was not open by this pool although the other pool and it's bar was open all the time. The hotel leads onto the peeble beach. We borrowed sunbeds to but on the beach so it was more comfortable. All in all it was a very nice chill out holiday but not recommended if you want an exciting holiday. All staff really nice

Great location, on the sandy beach. Although, the enter into the sea is full of little stones, once you pass over it, the bottom of the sea is very smooth and the water very clear and warm.
Great for children, as the sea is maximum 1.75 m for over 100 m into the sea.
Very clean rooms, spacious.
A bit disturbing during the night (if you stay in the main building, facing the entrance into the hotel) - you hear all the buses which come and pick up or bring guests to the hotel; but peacefull otherwise.
Waiters speak German, English and some other languages, very friendly.
What I didn't quite like:
- there were only about 11 tv channels available - 6 in German, 3 in Greek, 1 in Polish. I would have liked to watch something in English, at least, if not in Italian, French or even Romanian.... So, prepare to listen to and watch a lot of German... (no offense...) :)
- the bathroom is extremely small - 2 people cannot wash their hands at the same time...
- and the worst: there are lots of mosquitoes in the evening. Not in the rooms, but outside. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOME MOSQUITO REPELLENT WITH YOU, otherwise you won't be able to enjoy staying on a terrace, having a coffee or an icecream... They are everywhere and they even manage to get you through your shirt or trousers.
But, I do recommend this hotel.

We had a great time at this hotel (Acharavi Beach Hotel) where the great location and excelent services impressed us very much. The rooms are not very big , but with nice furniture and and the cleaning room is every day made. The food is variated and apetisant , with traditional food and a lot of salates; is a bufet . The hotel is near the beach so you can stay near the swiming pool and go bath in the sea. The beach is with sand and little rocks and the water is warm and very clear. Acharavi is a nice town , quite and with friendly people, a lot of tavernas and restaurants on the beach from where you can enjoy the sunset. We hope you'll like the hotel and the location.
