Almyros Natura Hotel - CYPROTEL

Just come back from a fantastic holiday! When we arrived had just got through the doors to have welcome bellowed to us from the reception desk! Arrived at 2.20pm to be told restaurant closes at 2.30pm please go and have something to eat and I'll book you in later after only asking our name and giving us our wristbands.
Returned to reception after lunch which was lovely and varied, receptionist was talking to another guest and apologised to them and asked if she could deal with us first as she had new arrivals and needed to book them in. Our maisonette was one of the furthest on site, but a very scenic walk. It was very clean, the air conditioning was new, and a very pleasant and comfortable room. A few little niggles but nothing serious.

We had a comfortable nights sleep and the room was cleaned every day. Our children left their phones in the room most days and had we had no worries. The food was lovely and varied and the children went back for more every sitting. I don't drink alcohol during the day and hate cheap pop, but was quite happy to drink the pop and the non-alcoholic cocktails were lovely.

The staff were always very polite, the waiters attentive, and the bar staff very friendly. The entertainment staff worked very hard to include everybody regardless of age.
The mosquitoes are there, as a part of the natural surroundings and Corfu's weather, nothing to do with the hotel! Just take preventative precautions. We were bitten but not excessively.

Firstly I would like to raise awareness of any person brave enough to go to this place.

Don't leave iPod chargers in walls. This indicates the presence of expensive technology and the cleaners will certainly steal from your room, or arrange for third parties to steal by very convieniently leaving the balcony door shut but not completely locked, and somebody else will enter your room having been informed by the cleaners ( not all cleaners are bad, however there are eight cleaners servicing 160 rooms) . Most of The staff have not been paid for over two months so it's not surprising that thefts and burglary from rooms occur.

Security is very lapse, another holidaymaker found a large bunch of master keys for all rooms outside rooms 1600 and he thought this most suspicious, completely supported by his Apple iPad and charger being stolen. The staff are not interested in supporting any holidaymakers who are victims of crime on their premises and actually deny it happens!!! One gentleman had his room cleared of gadgets, his children their phones stolen , and he made a report to the receptionist who told him to go to the police station which was over ten kilometres away. He made his way to this village outpost where a disinterested Greek Sargent struggled to write a report and supply crime number.
The poor holidaymaker then was left to his own devices , became very ill, eventually returned to the complex where a doctor was called, and the following day he was taken by ambulance to corfu hospital with dangerously high blood pressure, so to the thieves at the complex, enjoy the spoils of your thefts on the back of some bodies illness, I hope karma comes.

There is a Greek lady at reception with long dark hair, who actually finds it difficult to breathe the same air as any holidaymaker. She is just not a well lady and needs some sort of counselling for her attitude as a front line representative of this Beirut style complex.

Moving forward,
The food, disgraceful, the rooms dirty ( I have explained why , cleaners and other staff unpaid for over two months)

The rooms bed sheets are changed ever three days, the rooms towels every two days.
The rooms are not serviced on Sundays ( but really to remain secure, I would suggest to holidaymakers they are never serviced)

The all inclusive package

Well, the soft drinks for children,,,,it is pure syrup or watered down, there is never a happy level.
The food is cold and repetitive.

BUT Not all bad.
The pool here is lovely, ( get down early because the sunbed commandos leave their towels early on beds)
The beach, fantastic, and there are several lovely tavernas close by.
There is a small beach area nearby called island 10 run by lad called theo who is first class.
A small taverna just outside complex called libertys , which is great value and a restaurant in ARcharavi called the pump house, super douper there.

Without alarming any readers of this comment review, just be aware, to lock up your belongings, accept that Greece is in desperate times, and that when an employer doesn't pay staff, then resentment sets in.
Thieves and opportunists are everywhere at every hotel throughout the world, , and there are alwYs some hotels and complexes better than others.
This hotel complex is just ok, no way a 4 star, only max 2 star.
Food rubbish, but the views lovely.
Staff need paying, and a remedial lesson in customer focused approach, cleaners need sacking but not all, only maybe seven from eight do.

I won't go back, but just be aware that thefts cause your holidays to be ruined, don't be a victim
Thank you

It is sad to read through your response and we feel responsible for the fact that you didn’t get what you were expecting. Since this happened, we will examine what we can do in order not to experience similar incidents again.
We feel very sorry and responsible that we didn't met your expectations.
We want to say about your comments regarding the robberies we have to say all our staff was shocked! After having repeatedly meetings we increased the security around the complex! Everytime somebody from the staff was asked to go through an investigation they agreed voluntary! All the times when somebody reported a loss we went through this procedure but nothing was found! You need to understand that corfu is a small community and nobody would take the risk to be stigmatized! We always told to our guests to go to the police station and report the robbery! We even took them the most of the times there so they could get the police report!
The hotel manager always talked with the victims and tried to find an answer! Also visited the police station after the third incident and asked for their help!
We must admit that we were very surprised to hear your negative comment regarding our usually very highly praised cuisine. In the past few months, we have mainly received excellent reviews from other guests who truly admired the good quality, freshness, variety and particularly the big selection of our food on offer. We offer at least 12 hot dishes every day. Detailed our menu is:
Monday: tomatosoup, pennes with chicken, spaghetti with tuner, rice, eggplants, veal in red sauce, broccoli, onionpie ,fish filet
Tuesday: potato soup, veggie soup, amartisiana pasta, okra in red sauce, schnitzel, meatpie, mashed potatoes, roast beef, oven roasted pagasius fish, mixed vegetables, fried potatoes.
Wednesday: minestrone soup, leeksoup, taliatelen with see fruits, 2kinds of pizza, toscanian caneloni, florentian pork, ciciliana pagasius, risotto, lamb with spinach
Thursday: fish soup, cream of vegetables soup, shrimps with spaghetti, leekpie, haddock in safran sauce, pork chops, meatballs, spaghetti putaneska, chicken in oven, sausages, peas in oil, potatoes in lemon sauce
Friday: chicken soup, carott soup, veggiepie, pasta in tomato sauce, risotto, veal pastitsada, rabbit with onions, haddock bourdeto, chicken souvlaki, beans, potatoes in oven
Saturday: goulashsoup, peas soup, pennes in mexican sauce, quiche lorraine, chicken filet, hamburger with potatoes, duck in orange sauce, rice with vegetables, veal youvetsi, fish spetsiota style, mixed vegetables, jacket potatoes
Sunday: fish soup, veggie soup, moussaka, veggiepie, soutzoukakia, fish filet in ouzo sauce, eggplants, mashed potatoes, pork souvlaki, grilled vegetables, rice in red sauce, potatoes in oven. About the temperature we can insure you that is checked every 15minutes and due to the size of consumption there was no time for the food to get cold. Also we would like to note that there are no leftovers that are being used again in our hotel. After every lunch everything that remains is being given to our staff.
Nevertheless, please rest assured that your remarks concerning the food will be reported to the Head Chef and our restaurant manager.
Please feel free to contact us directly on our website form if you feel there is more we can do in regards to your review.
Best Regards,
Cyprotels Hotels & Resorts

Never thought I would countdown to return to work with such eager anticipation.
The hotel scenery fantastic, the beach fantastic
The hotel food dire, limited , repetitive and the soft drinks , well don't be a diabetic when you get here because you certainly will be at the end , 100% sugary with no real content.
Although it's sunny, although the scenery is great although the beach fantastic , it all is ruined by the crap food which is consistently poor.
I will never ever come to this hotel group again , not even if I won it as a prize..unless I want a diet,,
Don't go fully inclusive ,,you have been warned,,, it's shocking,,

Room Tip: Go for any of the first floor rooms, regretfully we are here until 2 august

We booked this hotel as it was a cheap and cheerful deal so to be honest we weren't expecting much as we just wanted a base for a beach. However even for us it was a let down. The main factors being the food and the cleanliness of the rooms. I have just been traveling around Europe on a shoe string budget and the hostels i'd stayed in the weeks prior to this were cleaner than this hotel! I've never left a bad review and pretty relaxed about acommodation normally, but I really feel that this needs to be shared with other people!

Pros:
Great pool very clean

Staff worked really hard, great animation team for the kids, they spoke so many languages it was amazing.

Right on the beach

The mini mart is pretty good value for money

Its not very crowded

All you can eat ice cream!

Cons:
Rooms were really dirty, we had dead bugs including a cockroach in the room and even after the maid came to clean the rooms the dead bugs were still there.

Our sheets didn't get changed once and there were stains on them before we arrived.

The towels were old and thin and also had stains on them

The room and sometimes the area outside (we were in block 2) smelt so bad like rotting rubbish.

The aircon was so noisey and brought the Smell in from outside we had it off most nights

The soda drinks are so sweet, coke is not really coke, and the water tastes so strange!

The food was very hit or miss, breakfast for me was the best time of day, otherwise lunch and dinner it was pot luck and either it was extremely salty and over cooked or extremely sweet and soggy. There were some salads but these pretty much remained the same the whole time. We ended up eating out three times and many guests we spoke to also did the same. Which defeats the point of all inclusive!

On the beach they charged you 5 euros for 2sunbeds and 1 umbrella, but to be honest the sunloungers were old and uncomfortable, so we went to the place next door called island where we paid 6 euros, got much better sun loungers and free WiFi. (i'd also recommend the frappes and milkshakes! The guy Theo who runs it is amazing!)

The other biggest issue were the mosquitos at night. Around the stage area you get absolutely bitten to shreds. I never normally get bitten and even with layers of mosquito spray and a citronella candle we still get bitten. It made the area so uncomfortable to sit in we only went down there three nights out of our seven.

The town is about half an hour walk along the beach which isn't so bad. But my advice is to find another hotel in Acharavi, there are plenty of cheap hotels and restaurants so you would be better spending your money elsewhere.

We will be complaining as this really is not a 4 star hotel by any means and feel that we were missold information by the description of the hotel.

When we arrived, at 2:30 a.m. , the receptionist gave us realy used key, like chewed from a dog. We still hoped, that it is only a detail, BUT...

Room no.1: Room 1302 at house block 13 is forgotten castle. Spiderwebs from the ceiling. The mold in the bathroom, on walls, on ceiling and not only in the bathroom! Blankets on beds were like from year 1960 and had some "maps" on them. So I went to reception and requested to moving to another room. Fortunately receptionist was normal and gave us keys from rm no.2: Room 403, which was not so terrible and without mold, but cleanness during the stay here wasnt exactly ok. The beds were terrible. Spring mattresses also like from year 1960!

Staff at the hotel was friendly and work well.

Food was suprisingly good, considering the first experience 1302.

The neighbourhood is peacefull and quiet, a little boring :) Nearest village or city is Acharavi, about 4 km / 2,5 miles west down the main road.

Beach is sandy with stony areas and the sea is clean, but sometimes with big waves .

Hotel reception and dining look nice from far, but from near is possible to see, that they saved money when they could.

The internet connection for 10EUR per 120min?!. In 4* hotel is realy awful wanted money for internet connection.
The website of hotel was never working when i wanted to look on it. it says some about image.

The pool and bars were fine, most of bartenders were friendly and one mustache bartender at hotel bar mixed realy strong coctails :)

One week was more than enough.

First impression it looks nice!!! Reception area ok but does not give you the welcome factor. The bar in the hotel is very tacky and lacks atmosphere. BUT then you go to your room - OMG. It looks like a Butlins chalet in the 60's.

The rooms were very basic and grubby, no tea and coffee facilities. Grubby bathroom shower over bath, mastic showing all round and mould, unable to put paper in the toilet and no fan. Towels were very old and had stains in them -they only made beds and emptied bins no cleaning of floors or the patio area outside table was thick with dirt and the chairs were badly stained.

Although there was a fridge you had to buy water as that was not supplied as part of the all inc? There was no cleaning of rooms on Sundays as day off so no towel change and these were only changed every other day? We were not told this until we asked at reception on the Sunday as to why our room had not been cleaned? Had to pay for safe and no pool/beach towels supplied and had to pay €5 a day for 2 sun beds and umbrella!! You also had to pay €10 euros for 2 hours of wifi whilst in the hotel. We are astounded that this was classed as an all inclusive when it actually was not!!

Restaurant

The food very repetitive pork, chicken, beef pasta dishes that had no sauce and was very dry. The soup each day was different - cabbage, carrot, vegetable, tomato, beef and minestrone. The food was cold - and tasteless. The drinks machine had pineapple but when u pressed for it it was soda water!! As they did not do pineapple? Even the still water was from a tap and if u wanted it cold you had to add ice cubes - was not from a chiller ? Even the hot water for the tea and coffee was not hot ?

The snacks that are provided during the day are cakes at 12 - then afternoon it is a sandwich with lettuce, tomato, ham, cheese In-between 2 slices of dried bread wrapped in cling film. And even the water in the pool bar is not cold.

Although the spirits were local ones they were tasteless and people were buying their own to drink also going out to eat in the restaurants!!!

The general state of the hotel etc is a generous 2* definitely not 4!!!
The staff are not friendly and if u ask anything they take ages to respond.

As for entertainment that was also very poor a few games were played during the day but there was no entertainment in the evening other than fighting off the Mosquitos!!

As for value for money for less than it cost us for a week for 2. We could stay for 10 days in a proper 5* in Egypt which we shall be doing in November.

We often read reviews on her and do not always believe what is put but all I will say is Do Believe This Review!!!!!

Room Tip: Do not go as there are not any!!

Arriving at 03.15 with my family we were informed they wrongly booked us into a room for 2 not 3.
We had to wait in the restaurant while they made new arrangements and we were told to help ourselves to food. OMG.
1 brussel sprout 6 slices of carrot 8 chips and some form of shrivelled cold cut and all poly wrapped onto a plate sat inside the chiller. Yes it was cold and no way of warming. No drinking water except from the tap and no vending machine to purchase any either. The beer and wine taps were on so we made do but not very thirst quenching at this time of morning and nothing for my son.
Eventually about 1 hour later we were informed they had a room for us but we would have to change that next day.
After a few hour sleep we awakened to a beautiful view from front and rear balconies which were huge. Room 1511. A large mezzanine bedroom took care of our luggage and left the room clear except for the weeks of dust that had built up. They informed us we could keep this room for our duration and we gladly accepted. Dusted by ourselves the room was now ready. Off to breakfast. OMG. Toast yoghurt n honey (lovely) and some excuse for coffe from a machine was the best we could see. Greasy fried eggs, weird looking cold cuts, tasteless cheese slices and dodgy cereals were on offer but sadly not even any fruit juice and still no water.
Off to the pool. Loads of loungers around the poolside but no tables for your drinks so be prepared for slaying the hordes of tiny ants that scramble over the drinks spillages from previous days as not once in a week did we see the poolside being hosed or swept. The small poolside bar run by the two nice girls, cant remember their names served ok beer and great ouzo but the kids drinks were beyond awful. Sugary funny coloured water. Many euros each day for cans of coke and bottled water etc from the hotel shop which defeats the purpose of going all inclusive.
Lunch time. Still no water but they had a bowl of ice to cool down the tap water if you dared drinking it. Stodgy stews and awful looking pasta on offer so we stuck to the breads salad and lovely feta and a wine of course. Poolside snacks are cold cheesy pies or awful dried up sandwiches of tasteless cheese n dodgy looking meat. Not even buttered.
Tea time. OMG. Much the same offerings and a kind of pizza my son couldn't even eat. Still no water and staff who need to smile more often. Lack of cutlery which I had to find from other tables and dirty table cloths.
We eat out 3 out 7 nights in the tavernas around the corner which reminded us of proper Greek food and hospitality. 10 out of 10 for the Avra with it's sunset views , great food and polite family who made us very welcome.
Car hire at €45.00 per day got us to Paleokastritska which is absolutely stunning. A must see place.
Please update this review if visiting during the English school holidays as it would be good to know of improvements as Cyprotel Almyros seemed to cater for the Germans and Russians who were there in ship loads.
As a 4 star it misses by miles and is more of a dodgy 2 and thats due to it's location not the hotel itself which is a shame because the surrounding area is lovely. We will return to Acharavi but not. Cyprotel Almyros.
