Owner description: The Folklore Museum of Acharavi in Corfu was inaugurated in October 2008. It is located just opposite the Roman baths of Acharavi in a private building of 1,000 sq.m. The museum was an inspiration and creation of Spyros Vlachos, who searched and found interesting folk items of northern Corfu to display there. The permanent collection of the museum is diplayed in two rooms. It includes old photos, books and manuscripts that date from 1862, coins from the period of the Ionian State , wooden folk furniture, loom, traditional olive press, kitchen utenslis, agricultural tools, watermill, ecclesiastical items and other exhibits that present the historical course of Corfu from the 18th century till today. The museum also has a conference room where lectures and seminars take place, a traditional coffee shop as well as a permanent exhibition of traditional products and woven handicrafts.
Useful Information: Bathroom facilities, Stairs / lift, Wheelchair access, Baby buggy parking

Spent an hour or so here and it was far more interesting than I expected.

We loved this museum but it would have been

less interesting had we visited without a Greek tour guide as there was no information in English whatsoever.

Dear visitor,
Thank you for visiting our museum and for your opinion of course…however we are surprised about your comment as in every object there is a sign illustrating what you the visitor sees in 7 languages…….

Interesting and some good memorabilia but not enough translations for me to fully appreciate it. But some work to keep so much history

Dear visitor,
Thank you for visiting our museum.
As in every museum, there isn’t always available a guidance, how about a free tour guide in a small private museum.
We are trying to do our best, we are willing to answer in our visitors questions and we have managed to put signs in 7 languages so the visitor knows at least what is the object he sees. We will not stop trying to improve ourselves although.
Regards,
Acharavis’ museum team

Visited this museum with my wife n son. Bought tickets, were not informed that that was a guided tour. We had a look upstairs , then went downstairs ,which had some interesting historical artifacts. A lady was guiding tourists and answered their questions. So we taught that we would hang around and get a guided tour. However when we went upstairs ,we were told by the attendant ( who sold us the tickets) that we were not entitled to the guided tour. He spoke to the lady guide in Greek and she gave us a dirty look.
THIS WAS THE ONLY DOWNSIDE OF OUR HOLIDAY IN RODA. HOW BLOODY RUDE !!!!!!

Dear visitor,
Thank you very much for visiting the museum and writing your review. Although, we would like to refer the following:
As in the majority of museums happens, a guided tour is either an extra paid tour or is a special offer in groups (travel tour operators organize excursions and a guided tour is arranged. A potential to provide a special guidance in every single visitor would be impossible.)
The day you visited the museum a group of tourists were having a guidance. You attended the guided tour downstairs and despite you were not part of the group, the lady with joy and without asking extra money welcomed you to the guided tour. Of course it was a good chance for you to be a part of the guided tour and it was nothing “hard” for us to do. (The guided tour would happen anyway).
Visitors also know that we are always willing to answer their questions concerning the exhibits. Of course, exhibits have a complete description in 7 languages.
When you got upstairs, the lady referred to the number of people attending the guided tour. We feel sorry if you misunderstood what happened, as no other visitor has ever referred to such a bad behavior all these years.
We are trying to do our best.

Regards,
Acharavi’s Museum Curator & Staff
