A glorious view over the rolling hills of the marche. Peace and quiet other than the calling of the cicadas. Comfortable accommodation is spacious and well equipped including air con in the lounge. More important than any of that is the hospitality and genuine welcome of expat hosts Lesley and Dean whose local knowledge and easy manner make staying here a delight.
Town shops are 2 minutes away by car; longer if you walk though in high summer that will be a sweaty walk.
We have taken in the delights of Ascoli Piceno and Assisi, both only an hour and a half away by car. There is more to see. Our first break here is unlikely to be our last.
The second time we’ve visited, on this occasion with two kids (6 and 2). Great value for money and honestly can’t recommend it highly enough. Dean and Lesley were fantastic hosts, the accommodation and grounds are terrific and there’s loads to do round about if you make the effort to explore. We nipped over to Perugia for the day and found plenty else going on locally. Hoping to return for a third time next summer.
We love Caserma Carina, from the moment we arrive to the moment we leave we have such a wonderful time.
We’re always made so welcome by Lesley, Dean and Grace, and it’s always so clean and well cared for. The apartments are spotless and the gardens and pool area are exceptionally maintained to Dean & Lesley’s very high standards.
A trip to the local Artisan leather workshop is a must if you like handbags or even just the smell of leather. This year he made me 2 beautiful leather guitar straps, based on one a left with him just a few days earlier. Amazing!!
We usually challenge ourselves to find a new restaurant in the locality to try and this year we discovered Casa Azzurra in Loro Piceno. Great fish and veggie based menu, a tad more expensive than some other places but well worth it.
Another first for us this year and a must for anyone who likes and values the eccentric is a visit to Peppe Cotto, the mad butcher of Loro Piceno. If I describe the experience you’d wouldn’t believe me so just go and see for yourself.
This was our 9th stay at Caserma Carina in the past 10 years. We will definitely be returning.
This was our third visit to Caserma Carina. Dean, Lesley and Grace go out of their way to make you feel welcome and part of their family. It's the type of place you want to tell everybody about but equally keep it to yourself as well. The accommodation is first class, the gardens and pool are looked after almost on an hourly basis. The views are breathtaking and the proximity to Mogliano (which has everything you need) is fantastic. On this visit I took ill on the flight over and when we arrived Lesley accompanied me to the A & E and stayed with me, acting as translator, until early the next morning. It is really like coming home to really good friends. My husband and myself cannot recommend Caserma Carina highly enough. Thank you Dean, Lesley and Grace for everything you did to make our holiday special. We will be back!
We have just spent our fourth holiday at Caserma Carina. The quality and high standards of the accommodation and glorious surrounding gardens and panoramic views have been maintained and are as wonderful as we remember them. Dean and Lesley work assiduously to ensure the comfort and enjoyment of their guests.
Restaurant recommendations and bookings are undertaken with the minimum of fuss. Advice is always forthcoming as to interesting places to visit. Dean is always willing to study a map with you and, using his excellent local knowledge, assist with routes, short cuts, places to park etc. We visited three fantastic new places this year, all at Dean’s instigation, and found them all so interesting with stunning piazzas and architecture. Mogliano itself is a gem. We climbed around all the narrow little side streets this year and they are so attractive with flower filled courtyards and beautiful old houses.
We ate simple but excellent meals at the local restaurants where you cannot fault the quality of the food or the warm hospitality of the owners and staff.
All in all this a gorgeous place to have an interesting, very comfortable and relaxing holiday. Le Marche is a fascinating, unspoilt area and you are in a real, untouristy part of Italy.
We were lucky to spend a week at Caserma Carina at the beginning of June with our two children aged 2 and 4. I wasn't expecting a particularly relaxing holiday (given the age and lively nature of our children!), however this very special place makes it possible.
It was perfect for our young family, with a beautiful pool which is looked after meticulously and covered every evening, meaning it was warm enough for our 2 year old who doesn't like cold water! The pool inflatables kept our 4 year old entertained for hours.
The grounds are lovely, the views over the surrounding countryside are stunning and parents can relax given the very quiet location and the gated pool.
The apartment (Girasole) was had everything we needed to make life easy with young children, including brilliant shutters which tricked them into sleeping in every morning!
Being in La Marche means you will avoid the tourist crowds (and prices) in Tuscany and Umbria - it's amazing how quiet the lovely old hilltop towns are. The house is perfectly situated for a day trip to the mountains and the beach, both trips were fantastic and were really memorable. It's also an easy walk into town with a some great restaurants, superb gelateria and a good pizza place in the play park.
Lesley, Dean and Grace (and Marley the dog!) were the perfect hosts, and have done a wonderful job creating such a special place - we don't normally visit the same place twice, but we will be back, and are convincing our friends that they should visit too.
Well, I’m not exactly sure where to start as there are so many wonderful things to say about Caserma Carina and of course the MacMorran family.
I was looking for a longer stay somewhere and the first place that came up for family friendly places to stay in Italy was Caserma Carina. After a couple of emails and a phone call we were booked in with ease and confidence that everything was going to flow perfectly and I’d made a great choice.
First of all, if you’re a family with young children and need things like hand blenders, toys, high chairs and babysitting - this is absolutely the place to go. Caserma Carina is equip for all of your needs as well as having a gated pool and a safe area to run around and play. There was no request to big or small for Lesley and Dean - they were so accomodating and always around if you have questions.
The surrounding area is beautiful and there’s plenty to explore. Because we had the two babies we spent a lot of time walking up to see the animals up the driveway (horses, sheep and goats) and then would walk into the village where the locals are very friendly to your children and are incredibly helpful and kind.
The wine in this region is wonderful and truly inexpensive. Lesley and dean also have a conveniently located wine fridge full of exceptional wine from a local vineyard which saved us on many nights!!
Lesley and Deans knowledge of the area is endless and there are plenty of day trips to take from Mogliano (seaside, mountains etc). I will say to that the roads are quieter than in the busier more touristy areas which made a huge difference.
So for anyone considering a visit that doesn’t have small kids to entertain, it’s still perfect. During our stay we had our friends visit from Barcelona and they went off exploring vineyards, restaurants and wine shops then we would bbq in the evening. There’s also beautiful hikes, mountain drives, spas, outlet shopping and of course endless restaurants to experience.
I cannot say enough about Caserma Carina, I feel as though my review doesn’t do it justice. Asides from all of the accomodating, helping and being wonderful hosts the best thing about Lesley, Dean and Grace (their fabulous daughter)is that they are brilliant people and we laughed all the time. It was like visiting close friends. This is why after our first four weeks, we went back to the UK and then came back for another two weeks!
