We spend two nights in the Shiner Shangr-La, coming from Lhasa and travelling further to Lijiang. the hotel location is very good, only 20 minutes waölk from the "old town" (taxi 5 minutes - 7 Yuan). the internet was availible only part time with very low speed, most of the standard apps and websites did not open.
The service was not customer-oriented and very poor with regard to flexibilty to respond to customer requests.
English language skills are poor - as in most of Chinese hotels in the region - however can be assessed below average and - in line with arrogant service qualty, is perceived lousy.
Price-value quality is poor.
We definitevly choos another hotel the next time.

Room Tip: make yourt expectations vey clear when you book!

We stayed in a suite and h hotel s pretty par for the course for Chinese travel/tourist hotels. It was clean and the breakfast was better than most. The hotel is a couple of kilometers away from the old part of town, but it is a straight shot on the bus or a 7 RMB taxi ride there. There is not much to do around the hotel. The shower had really low water pressure. The beds are exceptionally hard even by national standards.

A not very comfortable room (and shipped sheets on our bed) and a bad breakfast then it took 21 minutes to check out. Maybe we both ah a touch of altitude sickness but we were not impressed.

What impressed us most about the Shiner hotel was the welcome! Our group was greeted with steaming hot and fragrant towels and delicious ginger tea. Our rooms were unusual...the beds were on platforms...but they were comfortable. The heat came on at 6 pm but there were nice electric blankets to keep us warm too. It was a nice experience and the service was excellent.

We stayed at this hotel late April 2012 and our guide mentioned that we were to stay in the Holy Palace but other travel agents said it was bad. The room had worn furinture and dirty carpet. We found empty match boxes in the draws which we used to stop the window rattling. The bathroom had mould on the shower tiles and ther were no toiletries except a communal bottle of shampoo(lucky we always take ours with us). and you were given a tiny roll toilet paper a day, pity if you ran out. There was a rack of condoms on basin.
On checking out we had to wait while our room was checked to see if we had stolen any furniture or the condoms before we were given back our security deposit. This is a Chinese Tourist Hotel and no other Chinese was subjected to this check.
There are 5 star hotel not far from this hotel.
Shangra la country is very beautiful and a visit is worth it but make sure the travel agent does tell the truth about the hotels
