“Review for the Cafe - Not the Inn”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 December 2012

A unexpected treat in a good location. Great choice of food, good beer, Internet access and very comfortable surroundings. Friendly locals (including the cat, who would curl up on your lap if she got too hot sleeping next to the fire).
We had Snacks during the day and evening meal and all were excellent. Recommend a visit.
Can't comment on the Inn as we were not sleeping here.

I did not see the cafe only so I will write my review here. I know that the hostel is number 16 in town and I did see it and it looks nice. I'm at a dump next door that lonely planet has a number 2 pick....they started at the bottom of the list on that one.
Anyway back to the cafe. We walked out of old town to the cafe. I live in china but I'm from the states. This was the cleanest place I have seen in a year. The service was fast and friendly. The food was perfect. The salads are very large. We have noodle soup that was mostly noodles a few Vegtables in it would have been nice also grandmas potatoes were also very good.
Nice place big windows and free Wifi if you need it. Hell the monks were eating here.

We stayed at the Noah Inn for 5 nights in august. The double room with bathroom, was nice and spacious. .Sometimes the rooms were a bit smelly, but we heart that most guesthouse in S L had the same problem. The room was cleaned every day. The hostel is in a very good location, in the Old Town but not noisy at night. The owner runs this hostel, also called Olive inn ,and the Olive Inn Cafe across the road. The boy at reception doesn't speak english. The owner ,who spends most time at the Cafe does speak english. Noah has free wi-fi and you can also use their computer for free at reception.

Room Tip: Take the last room in the hallway, because that room has two windows and humidity can go out.

We stayed at the Noah Inn for 3 nights at the end of July. The room, a double room ensuite, was nice but unfortunately slightly damp. It was cleaned every day though and we were provided with towels and an electric blanket. There was hot water every day which we heard isn't always the case in Shangri-la. The hostel is in a very good location, in the Old Town but not too noisy at night. The owner runs this hostel plus the Olive Inn Cafe across the road which has good food and is reasonably priced. The only negative was that there was never anybody at reception to ask about day trips etc. The owner herself, who is very friendly and met us on our first night, was never around at the Noah Inn hostel and only sometimes at the Olive Inn Cafe. None of the other staff spoke any English. We speak some Chinese but for travellers with no Mandarin it would be difficult to communicate at all when the owner isn't around.

We stayed here for 6 nights and loved it. Noah's Inn (now called The Olive), is really centrally located in the Old Town, yet far enough away from the two squares that noise from the nightly dancing was not a problem. The rooms were clean and comfortable, if a little cold at times, but the electric blanket on the bed meant we were warm enough at night.

The associated cafe was our favourite place to eat in Shangri-la, great breakfasts, pizzas, sandwiches and middle eastern food too.

The Noah Cafe and Inn is located centrally in the old city of Zhongdian (Now better known as Shangri La). The hotel itself is comfortable, but the best part of this hotel were the staff. As well as being friendly, and with a basic knowledge of English, they were really helpful with all requests. For example, we were looking for a local restaurant to eat dumplings. Rather than attempt to persuade us to eat at Noah's, or point out a restaurant on a map, our host insisted on walking with us to a nearby recommended restaurant, When that was not open, she walked with us until we found something suitable.
Noah's Cafe is about 50 metres away for the inn, and provide western style breakfasts.
Other good things about Noah's - internet access is free, and if you need to get some laundry done, this is the place.
