“Just lovely”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 May 2014

We had a delightful 3 night stay at the pretty Hotel Ravesi. The staff could not have been more helpful, from arranging boat trips to confirming the hydrofoil back. It was lovely to sit by the pool or in one of the many hidden away areas in the well tended gardens with a very generous gin and tonic. Everything was clean, tidy and tastefully decorated. A great place to stay whilst on Salina. Thankyou Signora Ravesi and Nadia

The word you will hear most often in describing Malfa is "magical," and rightfully so. The Hotel Ravesi is the perfect place to stay and get a taste of all this. It is not just the infinity pool overlooking the sea and two other Aeolian islands. It is the kindness and courtesy of your hosts (a big thank you, in particular to Nadia, who found her way from Russia to a home and family on Salina). Not to mention the fragrant gardens, the homemade marmalade, the late afternoon by the pool, etc. We just did not plan on enough time to take this all in, but are grateful for what we had.

We stayed at Hotel Ravesi when visiting Salina with some friends who's family origins are from the island. Hotel Ravesi was just sublime and the staff were extremely friendly. The villas/rooms were spacious, comfortable, and very clean. And the surrounding gardens and infinity pool with fantastic views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and surrounding islands were the ultimate place to kick up the feet and relax with a drink. This hotel resort and the town of Malfa was like something out of a romance movie and Mr's Ravesi's traditional home made treats included with breakfast and drinks were just divine. In fact, the food at any time of day was amazing. I highly recommend staying at Hotel Ravesi if visiting the island. I couldn't fault anything about my stay here. Any visit to Sicily and Eolian Islands has to include a visit to Salina. It is really one of the most beautiful and relaxing places that I've visited. It is quite easy to tour the island by hiring scooters in the main town of Santa marina.

This is great! Great Hotel, great landscape, great everything. No cold and phony luxury but true style and tradition. Kind of modest. Friendly and highly professional, discreetly working staff. Yes, here are real people with hearts beating. Calm, respectful and laid-back atmosphere. And an authentic place, that seems to be rooted in its history and the community surrounding it. Great Aperitivo! Great bar. Great pool. Great view (Stromboli by night!). Great everything. Simpatico! Absolutely inspiring!

We stayed at this hotel in September, and had a nice experience. When we arrived we were greeted by Giuliana, who showed us to our room, walking through a beautiful garden fragrant with thyme and rosemary. The room she gave us didn't have a patio or terrace, only a tiny balcony, too small to stand on - more like a window. Also, it was rather close to the road, not that much noise but the sound of the 'motorino's' passing by every 5 minutes or so could be clearly heard. All around us we saw rooms with terraces, some of which seemed unoccupied, so before unpacking we decided to ask the receptionist if we could get another room. This time there was another receptionist at the desk - I think Nadia - and she was VERY friendly and helpful, and immediately showed us another room which a) had a nice terrace, b) was further from the road, facing the pool and the ocean, c) had a bigger bathroom, and d) was slightly bigger and had more closet space. So of course we moved immediately! After this we had a very nice stay, nice breakfast and drinks (good wine!) and snacks in the evening. And one night we had an excellent dinner at Signum next door; we also went over there for drinks once and it was great - loved their huge terrace with the wonderful view overlooking the ocean. Great service too, very discreet and civilized - much recommended!
Some general remarks: we spent the second part of our stay in Santa Marina, at Hotel Arcangelo (I'll write a review about this as well). We preferred Santa Marina to Malfa - Malfa is VERY quiet, basically just a square with a few stray dogs, and a bar called Malvasia where we drank coffee in the morning. Also, uphill a little, an excellent pizzeria called l'Alumeredda, where we had lunch and dinner several times. Santa Marina is really a very pretty little village, with little winding streets and a very nice Main Street with little boutiques and shops - all very tasteful, nothing tacky.
Would we go back? Yes, probably, if we go back to Salina. But since this was our very first visit to the Aeolian islands, next time we'll probably try some of the other islands such as Lipari and Stromboli, both of which we visited and both of which we enjoyed very much, for different reasons.

We chose Salina as the destination for our last 3 days of our Sicilian holiday as we had been told that the island was a magical place. Well, Hotel Ravesi is a magical place as well. Everything is done in a simple but elegant manner. We had a room which was a separate unit with a terrace facing the sea. The room , itself, was very pleasant and comfortable. The garden along the path near our room was beautiful to look at and to smell. The vineyards next door were also gorgeous.
Breakfast was delicious with an abundance of choices. A generous aperitif is served from 6 to 9 near the lovely infinity pool with the fabulous view of the sea...
The owner of the hotel is extremely gracious (her homemade marmalades are divine) and Guiliana, at reception, could not have been more friendly or more helpful. Nadia was also very attentive and sweet. Everyone on the staff was eager to make our stay special and it was. A perfect way to end our holiday. Grazie !!!

Room Tip: We loved our room. It was separate and had a great view.

Hotel Ravesi was the highlight of our trip to the Aeolian islands. Salina was a fantastic island and this hotel was just beautiful. The island is a little less run down than some of the others, and Malfa is beautiful little town. It was a quick 10-15 minute cab ride from the ferry and we didn't need to leave the town after that. There were several restaurants in walking distance, and the port in Malfa has boat excursions.

The hotel itself is lovely and small, without too many small children running about. The staff was so nice and friendly, they truly were the best of any hotel we have been to recently. The room was spacious and clean, with typical smaller European bathrooms and the usual firm European beds. These were the only potential negatives for us, but the positives really outweighed everything.

The grounds are beautiful, with lots of garden areas and a picturesque infinity pool overlooking the ocean. Evening drinks and complementary sfizi were fantastic and we wished we hadn't missed them the second night. Breakfast was very good, and there was even a festa in town on our second night, which was lots of fun.

I would definitely recommend this hotel and the island itself. I think Salina and Panarea are the two I would recommend staying on.
