The small hotel is located marvelously on a cliff with really breathtaking view, especially if you stay in one of the superior rooms. Only the moment to enter the room and see the endless blue, the majestic rocks, made it worth to come there. The garden is romantic with the perfume of aromatic herbs, in the evening candles, etc. ....all in one it's very romantic. The sea is just few steps (downwards) from the hotel, the (public) beach is impressive with its huge, round, grey stones (it's tricky to walk on them). It's kept clean, there is a life guard, a bar and "things" to rent.
The rooms are functional, pure, cute and extremely clean, also the bed sheets are changed every day. The breakfast is fresh and tasty (especially for Italian standards) and some evenings they offer a dinner menu which is worth to try (at least that time it was).
The ladies (only women run the hotel) are very helpful, for a boutique place a bit unpersonal.
BUT there are some weaknesses which can make one to think to return. For example that the hotel is not a so called silent hotel. The doors are not hotel standard doors so every time somebody closes one somewhere, the whole room is "shivering". The rooms are not very well soundproofed so you can hear what's going on in the neighborhood. Minor detail that minimum 2 times a week a tanker arrives to bring fresh water to the island and the dock station is in front of the hotel so ca. 12 hours long continuous engine sound.
The worst thing comes last, but i think one has to know in order to decide. The whole sea around the island (we tried nearly every "corner") was full of medusas. And i mean full. Even different kinds. So if somebody wants to enjoy the sea without restrictions then that's an issue. I must admit there were some hours in the afternoon (sometimes) - who knows why - when they disappeared.
Otherwise it's useful to rent a car to move around the island, however there is a public traffic system and there are cabs, too. Malfa is beautiful (the whole island is beautiful) and doesn't seem like a cheap touristic place, rather kind of posh but quiet and has not too many places to go out, the restaurants are so-so.
