South of Florence in Tavernelle val de Pesa, the Maggi family has opened a small shop at their olive orchard in the Chianti region of Tuscany. If you call ahead you can arrange a lunch of homemade pasta and antipasti, prepared by one of Carlo's three daughters using olive oil he produces himself. Lunch on the patio overlooking beautiful Tuscan farms and orchards is magical. It's extremely low-key and informal, a delightful contrast to the sophistication and high style of Florence. Carlo's a puppeteer, and his daughters are artistic. Daughter Teresa speaks good English. We really enjoyed the welcoming warmth of our visit.
