“We went for a snack in the town we used to live in”
Reviewed 22 June 2014

We lived in this area 30 years ago and the Three Salmons was the place to stay. In fact family members had wedding receptions there as well as family gatherings in the restaurant. We might be relying on good memories but what a change!!! We were passing through Usk on Saturday and stopped for a snack. We had sandwiches and quite frankly the bread was thin, processed and could have been bought from a budget supermarket. The beef in my sandwich and the cheese in my Husband's was ultra thin. We watched other sandwiches come out and they were far superior.
As for attention at the bar, staff were competing to run away rather than serve. So disappointed.
We provided feedback at reception but received same response in defensive manner by the barman who did not want to serve anyone in the first place.

We booked the Three Salmons as our wedding venue, after both deciding it was perfect for what we were looking for. Throughout the months leading up to the wedding on the 14th June 2014, all of our questions, concerns and requirements were all dealt with promptly, ensuring we were stress free! We arranged for our menu tasting to take place 3 months before the wedding date, and we felt very special as we sat and tasted delicious food and fine wine. We arrived 2 days before the wedding and worked with the hotel staff to ensure all the final arrangements and detail were in place. The wedding co-ordinator had designed a fantastic table seating plan which we did not see until the day before the ceremony, and we both loved it! It was just what we wanted and we could see that a great deal of time and effort and been put into making it perfect! Our family and friends travelled from various corners of the British Isles to join us, and most of them spent 2 nights at the hotel. They too were all pleased with the accommodation and service, just as we were. You couldn't wish for a more friendlier place to stay, it feels like home from home! When our special day arrived everything was exactly as we had dreamed of. The food, the drinks, the service and the whole ceremony was marvellous. We even had fabulous weather! We will remember our wedding day for the rest of our lives, not just because it was our special day, but because the Three Salmons made it perfect for us with their professionalism, their organisational skills, and most of all, the personal touches they added. If anyone is getting married and haven't found the perfect venue, then this is the one for you, especially if you want a small intimate ceremony. And even if you don't live locally, it doesn't matter because we travelled 180 miles to be married here! So Thank You very much Three Salmons for making our wedding so special and so memorable!

Room Tip: The front rooms obviously get traffic noise because of its roadside location, but with a good pair o...

My husband booked this as a weekend away for a birthday present. Neither of us had ever visited Usk before, but had heard of the food in the Three Salmons by reputation. We arrived on the Friday evening - great welcome and walked to our room. The room was clean and pefectly acceptable if a little outdated. There is a very pleasant beer garden, and because the sun was shining we took the opportunity to have few drinks out there before eating in the Bar - on a table reserved for us by Reception. Breakfast was excellent, on both days with plenty of choice. On Sat evening we ate in the restaurant, and I can say that the food was excellent - both my husband and I had different things, and both commented that we would definitely order what we had again. Overall the atmosphere in the hotel was very friendly and relaxing, and Usk itself is a very pretty town, with plenty of places for walking and admiring the scenery - our car didn't move from the car-park!!!! Would definitely return, and am considering it as an option for accommodation for a Christmas Shopping trip as both Bristol and Cardiff are easily accessible.

We stayed for a family weekend with 25 people staying to celebrate a special birthday. Usk is a lovely country town and the Three Salmons is a wonderful old hotel which is kept in great condition. The food and service were much above its three star rating. The staff really cared and delivered great service. Definitely one to visit again

This is a charming old hotel. We opted for a superior room which was large with a lovely bathroom although the extractor didn't seem to be working. Breakfast was plentiful and well cooked and the staff were friendly and helpful.

We came across the hotel purely by accident after a cock up with the sat nav, and needing a place to stay for the night. It turned out to be one of the best mistakes I've ever made. The staff were very friendly and we were given a spacious and spotless family room. Yes, I agree some of the decor is a little old fashioned, but this to me adds to the hotel's considerable charm. The breakfast was excellent too. We plan to return.

My fiancé and I stayed at this hotel for two nights with a number of friends.

The hotel is a little dated but very clean and the beds were particularly comfortable. The rooms are split between the main hotel and the former stables, across the road. Our room was in the stables, on the ground floor. Our shower was very good but our friends in the main hotel and on the first floor of the stables had very slow running showers. I think the hotel should look into this. Our room also seemed to have been decorated more recently.

The best thing about the hotel is the restaurant. We had two breakfasts and two dinners here. The food both in the morning was excellent, with very kind and attentive service.

Room Tip: The rooms seem to vary in quality.
