“Very friendly pub, but tiny expensive portions”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2014

I have visited this pub on a number of occasions over the last 12 months, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. It is conveniently situated about half a mile (not 5 minutes drive as another reviewer commented) from the M5 motorway junction 14 in a quiet pretty village on the A38. It has recently started doing a breakfast menu which I have not tried.

What has let it down is the food prices and portions. I remember that there were only 3 sprouts with the xmas lunch. We decided to give it one last chance. The food itself is very nice, but you get very little portion wise for your money. The lasagne comes in a tiny side dish with a small amount (a garnish) of salad and 3 thin slices of garlic bread for just under a tenner. The curry likewise was 2 spoonfuls in a small balti dish with a popadom, small amount of rice and salad garnish at £10.45. I had lamb steak with a small amount of salad and a small ramekin of potatoes that were dry and consisted of 4 thin slices of potato. This cost over £12. The sweets are overpriced too, £4.95 for ice cream. Very disappointing. We were hungry again by the time we got home.

“Extremely welcoming and efficient staff and a good meal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2014

Enjoyed a meal on Friday evening at The Huntsman Inn as passing by on the A38. We enjoyed our food and our experience was enriched by the friendly and efficient staff. Nothing was too much trouble and orders taken and food served with a smile. Staff were well presented and took a real interest in their customers. Thank you.

“Great Pub Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2014

I have eaten here on many occasions so can speak from long standing experience

The Huntsman has a very high standard of good locally sourced food. There are always some 'specials' as well as the standard menu. The chef is very good and will usually accommodate any special requirements and the service is also of a high standard

We stopped here for dinner for my partners birthday. Food was great and was lovely to sit in the garden on a lovely sunny day.

“Pity the staff cheerfulness wasn't carried into the food service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2014

Have used this large pub on the A38 many times and am pleased to find that food is now served all day - maybe this is just for the summer. Pub could still do with a refurbishment particularly exterior areas.

Cheerful lady at the bar serving drinks and taking orders.

Why did I have to chase up the ordered garlic bread - when it turned up it was a miserable three pieces of burnt crust that had obviously been forgotten and hurriedly defrosted and reheated.

Maybe it was due to the constant stream of people, and young children, in and out of the kitchen area - not a very professional scenario.
