“Back to the Tri-Men”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

This is one of the treasures in our 'destination hotel" chest - we've been visiting intermittently since it opened, and always return with the same pleasure. It would be a shame to only stay overnight - the Tri-Men is a place to spend several peaceful, comfortable Breton days. This time, we were there for four nights. And of course it rained some of the time - we're en Bretagne after all. But the hotel is a wonderful place to watch the rain, wait for the sun and let time pass…….

The breakfasts, the view, the surroundings, the quality dinners (despite the chef's focus on seafood, the local lamb is excellent!) and the large white rooms are always delights. As is the bar (some new magazines please!), with its comfortable chairs and estuary view. And the hotel's art, especially the Lionel Floch oils (there are more in the museum in Quimper). We like the little port of Sainte-Marine with its restaurants, stone chapel, historic Abri des Marins and the small ferry boat to Benodet. And we always visit the little red and white lighthouse.

See you next time!

Room Tip: All have sea views, but the larger rooms are especially comfortable if staying for several days.

Two nights in this very nice house, we had a standard room, it was facing the see and had everything you need inside. The breakfast was very good and the previous diner even more, the foie gras mousse was very airy and delicious. Staff were always nice from beginning to end. We would go back some day on a return to Bretagne.

This hotel was a night stop on our way to the south of France. It was recommended by a French friend. This was a very nice stay. Quiet, relaxing with a great view of the river. The property is well kept. The staff very helpful and pleasant.

Room Tip: If you want a river view, you should ask. It really is not necessary. You can go to the garden and s...

We were there around Xmas time and the hotel was very quite, which is fine but we felt we were non existent as guest. The fire and candle were never lit in the very uncomfortable bar, which was unattended the all week. But we managed to find the music system to play our phone's music.
There are no mini bar in the room, limited toiletry product and if it is set on beautiful grounds it is definitely not a winter place.
We are well travelled and not too fussy but I found this place really over priced for what it had to offer.

The position of this hotel is so wonderful, overlooking the river, that they would have to try very hard to give guests a poor experience and in general they don`t. It is superb.

Sitting in the garden watching the boats go by is a very relaxing experience. The restaurant is very good - as other contributors have noted, it is Michelin- type food.

Our room on an upper floor had a view (just) of the port and was beautifully appointed.

It isn`t perfect. Some of the staff seemed a little inexperienced, there was no aircon and the hotel Wi -Fi didn`t work well although as the adjacent port has its own Wi -Fi , this isn`t a major problem.

We had nice meals at Le Cafe du Port and Hotel du Bac, both a couple of minutes walk away and popped over the river to Benodet on the small ferry which was a lovely little trip.

A great place to stay !!

This hotel is in an enviable location at the aber of the Odet river with gorgeous views, a nice garden, a range of accommodation and a slick staff (although one of the owners did engage in a prolonged argument with a member of his staff in and our if my presence one evening).

We booked late and got the last room. It was tiny. Just about big enough for a double bed.

The food is good and very expensive. However, the desserts are unbelievable. The best I've ever tasted anywhere.

So, how do you rate this mixed experience ?

Room Tip: Make sure you ask to see a room's image on the internet before booking. Ours was tiny. The cotta...

Having stayed here before, about 3 years ago, we decided to book again for 3 nights. This time we took my mother-in-law as a treat and booked two rooms. When we arrived the hotel had actually only booked one room and the hotel was full! After some discussion we discovered that they had one room out of service for a very minor issue. As a consequence we agreed to using that room and hence the hotel staff, after a poor start, recovered well.

The hotel is beautifully situated on the Odet river looking out to Benodet and the Atlantic ocean. Rooms are both clean and comfortable as well as adequately spacious. (Three years previously we had a superior room which was very spacious indeed).

The restaurant is a bit of a mixture. On the one hand the food was excellent and worthy of a Michelin star. However the restaurant itself lacked a little finesse/style. A little pricy perhaps but I would definitely eat there again.
