I knew the flat would be basic for the price, as I am a middle aged seasoned traveller, having been to Turkey many times, but nothing could prepare me for this.
On arrival we were shown to a basic flat on the second floor, this was a disappointment as I had requested a top floor, quiet room & this room was far from quiet with the staff bellowing at each other over the pool area. The furniture was shabby, tap broken, bedding looked unclean and the whole place felt unloved. Even the lights on the hotel entrance were broken. The next morning we checked out the kitchenette, we expected basic but the worktop was split, crockery was missing or broken. I was worried about this as there was a large list detailing fees that would be demanded if items were missing or broken. We took this to reception and the young man on the desk said to ignore it. He then seemed more interested in playing computer games then sorting the breakfast that we ordered. (we never did get the coffee.) When we did manage to engage him, he appeared to be either sleep deprived or on drugs. He then talked about the “[--] apartment” in a jokey manner. Hardly the most professional of language. Bizarrely he was overseeing a bar that sold nothing as there was no water or beer.
By chance our rep (I didn’t even know we had one) appeared & was disgruntled that he’d not seen us earlier. Apparently we had missed a meeting with him, as detailed in the welcome pack, however we did not get or expect a welcome pack. We spoke to the rep about the crockery list, the lack of warm water & broken washbasin tap but heard no more. He had promised to leave a telephone number but didn’t.
Other the next few days we asked the staff to turn on the hot water, change the towels and empty the bin (full of used toilet tissue) Each time they said they’d do it but didn’t. Basically they lied to us and also said that we’d have to buy our own toilet roll when it ran out. In 4 days I managed only two tepid (not warm) showers. My husband and I then decided that we would empty the used tissue bin ourselves, bagging it up and take that & the dirty towels to reception and ask them to issue clean ones. The manager then appeared and was threatening to me, trying to get me in a room alone with him. Despite being an old battle axe I was now rattled, I shudder to think how young girls would handle him. He shouted that we should move hotels if we wanted better.
On top on this we slept only once in four nights as the hotel was very noisy with guests but also with staff shouting in the corridors. The final straw was someone attempting to break into the room and leaving a trail of blood on the floor. (which was never cleaned up) By now we actually feared for our safety, especially as the manager had threatened me previously.
After 4 nights of little sleep, in a filthy flat with rare hot water, we packed our bags and went to Club Armar.
