“Great food, ambiance and service”
Reviewed 26 June 2013

This restaurant is located in the heart of Penonome, Panama, and close to the public market. The restaurant is spacious with indoor air conditioned dining areas, or outdoor seating areas that extend into a large terraced patio area. There's also a small upper deck for dining under the moon and stars, with views of the surrounding mountains. The theme is Spanish, as well religious, with a broad assortment of statues, paintings, images and mosaics. There is an abundance of waiters and servers, so you are attended to very promptly. The first half of the menu is in Spanish, and the remaining half has an excellent English translation. The lettering is large enough so if you forgot your reading glasses, you should not have a problem. There is a generous selection of foods, ranging mainly around meats, fresh seafoods, and the prices are moderate. If you are a senior citizen, you can request a discount on your meal. I ordered the corvina in a green sauce and it was excellent. Others in our party ordered soup, and prawns, and they were also delighted with their meal. If you are in Penonome and want to have a great meal in a very relaxed and comfortable setting, this is your place. Parking can be a bit tricky since there is no designated parking lot for the restaurant, and the adjoining businesses on the surrounding narrow streets have signs indicating that parking is only for the specified establishment.

“Unbelievable find for foodies”
Reviewed 16 June 2013

Beautiful decor, fantastic meal, and service like what you've come to expect in fine dining establishments in the states (no offense to Panamanians, but restaurant service there leaves much to be desired in terms of attentiveness, promptness). The waiter spoke enough English to answer my questions about the menu. We ate in the softly lift courtyard, lulled by the chirping of crickets in a nearby blooming hedge. I started with the ceviche mixto, a blend of calamari, shrimp, corvina and mussels. A touch of fresh red onion and a nice spicy after bite. It was a generous portion, enough for two. Based on a recommendation from other Trip Advisor reviewers, my entree was the corvina in green sauce; a light, creamy sauce with fresh asparagus and peas. The fish was cooked perfectly; flaky and tender. Served with rice and on the side, a tomato slice with fresh lettuce, topped with a garlic vinaigrette. I am a huge fan of Chifa-style food (Peruvian Cantonese), and the chef here is from Peru...thank goodness my companion ordered the Chifa chicken rice. The best I've ever had! Think of Chinese style fried rice, only with huge chunks of roasted chicken, flavored with some amazing green herb (culantro? cilantro?)...I can only guess. Not your mamma's fried rice, I guarantee! If I had more time in Panama, I'd stay an extra day in Penonome just to eat here again. I understand the owners have another restaurant about 20 minutes way that also comes highly recommended by the locals (Mar del Sur, I believe). The entire bill, with one glass of wine, was under 40 dollars US!

“Unusual and Unforgettable”
Reviewed 8 February 2013

A friend of mine who lives in Penenome took us to this restaurant a few nights ago. I've never been to any place quite like it. The whole restaurant is themed like an old Spanish-themed monastery. Statues of the saints adorn the decor. It was a weeknight and there were few other guests which worked out well for our large group that consisted of my young children. There is plenty of room to run around in the enormous courtyard. While the food was priced a little above local norms, it was far from unreasonable. The food was prepared with skill and care and the service was unbeatable. The person who built this place invested a great deal in making it beautiful and I would encourage anybody who happens to be in Penenome to treat themselves.

“Beautiful place with great food and friendly service.”
Reviewed 31 December 2012 via mobile

The sign outside is easy to pass up, but once you find it, you are mesmerized by the beauty of the restaurant. The restaurant is breathtaking. The service is slow, but what's the rush?! Our server was very friendly and eager to speak English to us. The food was great and inexpensive. It is truly a hidden gem.
