“"THANK YOU" Raya!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2012

We had been to Panarea in the past and, being back to the island, we decided to have dinner in the beautiful terrace in front of the sea again, despite the negative feedback we read on tripadvisor.
Unluckily Tripadvisor was right and we were wrong.
In fact our dream to have dinner in the unique terrace turned into a very unpleasant experience. We called on Friday morning to be sure we could get reserved an external table for two on Sunday night. A very kind lady confirmed at the telephone the reservation of the external table, in front of the sea. At our arrival a young lady took us at our table, which was located in the inner terrace though and far from the sea view. We immediately clarified that our table was an external one as per our specific reservation and we were surprisingly and unkindly literally told that those were "reserved to satisfy other customers". We replied that we were "those customers" as we had booked adequately in advance and got a clear confirmation. The young lady then tried to convince us that the inner table was equally nice. When we insisted on the confirmation we got at the telephone, supported by the fact that all the external tables were empty/available, she replied that she could have sat us on one of those tables but "we had then to witness the unsatisfaction of the later customers". We then underlined that at that point we were the unsatisfied customer, mostly by the lack of professionalism and courtesy we witnessed at the "welcoming service" and we decided to leave. The young lady couldn’t find anything better to say than we should have had to "blame the reservation lady for our unsatisfaction"!
Unbelievable.
Before leaving we asked to talk to the Raya Manager in charge to report the situation. The Manager was reached by telephone and, after he got a summary of the events, said to forward us to a deputy, who never arrived though. At that point it was pretty clear the lack of management and Customers attention who caused our inconvenience.
We finally left and decided to have dinner in a different new restaurant (feedback published accordingly on TripAdvisor) where we had a delicious dinner and a really fabulous experience... thanks to Raya!

“A special place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2012

This restaurant has many things going against it. The service and atmosphere are described as LA casual - a take on its reputation for celebrity visitors. It means adolescent - bordering on the rude but with enough sass that they get away with it usually. It is also regularly poor service for no more reason than understaffing. The food is good; but this is Italy and for the price you can do better here. By Sicilian standards it is expensive too.
The views from most of the tables on the terrace, over the Aeolian Sea towards the Islets and Stromboli and also covering the usually swinging port town, are unbelievable. Combined with that bit of attitude the gorgeous people (some of whom might be celebrities) the warm humid night (this is a late night place - if you have to eat early don't go) and a seriously good bar: it is absolutely magical. You just have to suspend your normal expectations and go with the locals playing by their own rules. If the delays get you down - look again at the view; your companion and have another Malvasia.

“Gorgeous location, good food, a bit of a scene, way over-priced”

Amazing view and very chic decor, but quite a scene and truly very expensive for what you get. Way over-priced.
