“Very good base for exploring further”
Reviewed 10 August 2013

Centrally located in the town with a great outdoor pool and lovely lounge area. The bedrooms are spacious but in need of a makeover e.g. Huge, outdated TVs, steel framed squeaky beds, very dim lighting in bathroom. We slept well but once people start moving in the morning there's lots of noise - doors slamming, wardrobes opening and closing, toilets flushing. A good choice of eating and drinking places within a minute's walk and the mountain backdrop is stunning. Staff very pleasant and welcoming. Secure car park at no extra cost

I stayed here for a week with a hiking/walking group and was happy with the choice of hotel. The room had a comfortable double bed and overlooked a large pool which was perfect for a swim after a day of hiking. There was a desk and chair but no armchair for reading. There were only 6 hangers in the closet, but lighting was good both at bedside and in the bathroom. There was a shower-over-tub arrangement and the shower angle was very hard to adjust so led to flooding, but since I reported the problem, I expect it's been solved. The bidet is placed too close to a side wall to use comfortably. The service was excellent and attentive. The group meals at night were for the most part very good with a few items only ok. Breakfast was adequate except for the scrambled eggs kept in a hot plate that glued them to the bottom and limp bacon. Coffee was fresh and served in individual cups at the table. There was fresh fruit. Service in the restaurant was excellent too. The living room/lounge was great, with comfortable sofas and chairs and a fireplace, perfect for group meetings or reading. It has a bar and a library.

Found the staff quite exceptionally helpful, the room overlooking the river (if you stand on tiptoe) very comfortable, and the food hearty without being exceptional. My only complaint would be that the limited menu did not change on the two nights we were there (it would appear to be a "summer" menu) and the crisps that previous reviewers complained of are actually home-made potato chips (shaped like crisps) that I found quite tasty. After a week spent in the Picos it would seem every main course has a potato element, and usually no other vegetable (get these in your starter).

Very nice local hotel, I recommend the restaurant and the friendliness of the staff; the accomodation are clean, spacious no complaint for a very decent price.
We did not try the swimming pool, due to the weather which was still a bit cold, but it looked good.
Beware of the annex car park, it can be tricky to access with big cars.

Room Tip: Try the hotel restaurant and the bar of the hotel...there is also a swimming pool but the weather mu...

Nice hotel in good location for exploring the Picos. Big room and bathroom, could have benefited from some drawer space but had spacious wardrobes. Room and public areas very clean, nice lounge/library with bar. Very helpful staff, all spoke excellent English. Lovely swimming pool in garden. Only criticism was that the evening meal was not of the standard we expected, chicken served with a few crisps and salmon served with a lettuce leaf, service rather slow even though there were few guests. Private parking and centrally situated in Arenas. Very nice stay.

We stayed here in sep for a couple of nights as part of a touring holiday. The hotel is located in a beautiful part of spain and nice village with a few bars, restaurants and shops. The hotel is tastefully decorated and clean. Nice bar area and lounge. Sunny terrace and pool area. The service was excellent and all staff were friendly. The breakfast was of a good quality. we ate in the restaurant on our first evening and the food was authentic and of a good standard. Really happy with our stay and a most relaxing and enjoyable start to our holiday.

Arenas is a nice quiet village with usual amenities. Excellent location for hiking etc. Secure free parking for motorbikes and cars. Lounge / Bar area has a library type feel - very nice, lighting is very well done with individual lamps rather than ceiling lights.

Room Tip: stunning views from rooms at back
