Maybe it was museum fatigue, but this museum didn’t offer as much as expected. There was too much Canadian history before the war. The compulsory entrance video was poor and far too hot. It had ended before it got going. The video at the end was disappointing. I wouldn’t say it was worth the entrance fee, and I don’t think it did justice to those Canadians who fought.

Hi Chowso,

I am sorry you didn't find our museum to your liking.

The content of the museum is meant to reflect Canada's participation in the Second World War as a whole, to give a full picture understanding. The Juno Beach Centre was founded by veterans who wanted their story to not only be told, but understood by those who read it, and they felt that the content that covers the era prior to the war was essential in understanding why so many Canadians volunteered for service when war eventually broke out.

I am disappointed to hear of your experience with our films. We had a problem with the Air Conditioning in the first room for about three days last week; i am sorry it affected your experience but can confirmed it is now fixed. As for the second film, I am surprised to hear your negative feedback as it is the part of the museum people seem to find most moving and worthwhile.

As an interpretative centre and a memorial space, it is very important that we live up to the expectation of our visitors and I assure you that your comments are taken seriously.

Thank you for your feedback.

The Juno Beach Centre is one of the best exhibits we have ever seen. Staffed by Canadians, everyone we met was very knowledgeable and helpful. Unfortunately our timing did not coordinate with taking the tour, however it was absolutely worth going to see the exhibits and to pay our respects at The Bény-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery (less than a 10 minute drive from the Centre). We rented a car for the day and took the Toll Highway there. The tolls are very easy - they take coins or credit cards. We stopped at 4 toll booths for a total of 15.70€ (2.70€, 3.70€, 5.70€, 3.60€). As it was a Bank Holiday, the traffic coming back was very heavy. Thankfully Google Maps guided us toward the more scenic route - very beautiful, would recommend taking it at least one way. Our journey there was less than 3.5 hours and our journey back was 4 hours (it would have been over 5 hours had we taken the toll highway back). If you are in Paris for more than 2 days this should definitely be on your itinerary.

Though we were scheduled to go on a tour, the SNCF rotating strike put an end to that. We did rent a car in Paris and wound up at Juno Beach to see the Canadian D Day landing site. Very impressive, still some installations on the land, and the Juno Beach Centre was quite interesting. Whatever you do, take a moment down on the beach to feel the wind off the channel, look around, and imagine those terrible but ultimately liberating days...it's very humbling.

We appreciated both the indoor exhibits and the excellent tour. Despite history classes, books read and movies watched we were very surprised at how much we were learning at each memorial site and museum. We were told details during the tour at the June Beach Centre about the sheer number of the bunkers built by 1944 and went into two of them. That made the intentions and actions of Hitler take on a new depth and clarity. Among many other facts, I had no idea that there had been a catalog that his commanders used to order a `bunker kit` choosing from roughly 700 different designs. I`m still processing what that would have been like for the local populations throughout Europe who were forced to help build them on their own land.
We are grateful for to the dedication and hard work that has made this Centre happen.

Wasn't sure what to expect, and wondered if it would be boring for our six-year old grandson. But it was a great mix of things to see and read out of doors, plus interactive displays and testimonies inside the museum with short, excellent documentary films. There was also a guided tour with a young guide, which was informative and never dull as she made it interactive and personalised. I found the whole visit unexpectedly moving, and was so glad we decided to visit. It has added another dimension to our holiday.
