“wonderful location, room, food and staff!”
Reviewed 26 August 2010

wonderful location, smart and modern bedrooms and a stunning restaurant. Every table was taken every night we were here and it was obvious why.. not just hotel guests but clearly people travel from afar to eat here. Varied menu, superb staff and just the most fantastic cuisine. Beautifully prepared dishes and every one we sampled a winner!! We will long remember out stay here and can't wait to be back. What a gem!

The hotel occupies a beach location in a quiet village. The rooms are airy and confortable. It is ideally located to visit the Normandy landing beaches and war musuems. The food is among the best we have experianced in France. Friendly and efficient service. Highly recommended.

My husband and I stayed with my parents on a four day visit to the d day beaches. When I rang to book 2 sea view rooms Gregory suggested we might like a 2 bedroom apartment. This proved to be ideal as we had a small lounge with a balcony (the only downside was that there were no tea or coffee making facilities which my 80 year plus parents would have appreciated!). Although the balcony did not have a sea view (the bedrooms did) it was still pleasant to sit out. We were there on a half board basis and the food was very good. There was plenty of choice (including oysters and fresh fish) and you could pay extra to have a la carte choices if you wished. The restaurant was full every night with lots of non residents chosing to eat there. The apartment was newly refurbished and very clean. The hotel is right on the promenade with no traffic between it and the beach.
If we are in the area again we will definitely stay there.

We stayed here for one night en route from Brittany to the ferry at Caen. It is extremely handy if you are planning on catching the early ferry as it's only a 20 minute drive away. We had previously had a meal here but decided it would be a nice place to stay for the last night of our holiday. We found the food here to be very good, above average for French hotels and good value and we loved being able to look out over the sea while eating. The service is good, although typically French so can seem a bit brusque. The breakfast is excellent with lots of variety and far more than we are used to from French hotels - they were very good at providing everything for us before our early departure to the ferry. You can park your car straight outside - another plus if you are loaded up for the ferry. The room was a bit disappointing as it was a bit dated but overall, would definitely recommend this as a stopover hotel if you are travelling through the area and would eat at the restaurant any time. Not many English either which shows it is popular with the locals - always a good sign!

We had a 3 night break here in December staying at the Gytan which is an annex to the main hotel just a few yards down the road. Gytan has about 30 rooms which are very clean and adequate size. The first morning we had breakfast at the Gytan (Sunday) as there were a lot of people staying there, the following 2 mornings we went to the main hotel. The continental breakfast was very good. Coffee, juice, cereals, ham, cheese, baguttes, cake, yogurt, fruit. We had booked a 3 day promotion stay and we paid £59 for the 2 of us for bed, breakfast and evening meal each night . The meal wasn't the best we have had in France but we had a 4 course meal for this price and quite honestly in England we pay £45 each just for a meal! Also we sat overlooking the sea not much to look at in December but still nice. Therefore our rating is based on excellent value. The staff were very good and its obviously a very popular restaurant as the Saturday night it was full and in fact there was a second sitting on a lot of the tables. All in all we would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a reasonably priced short break. on the coast.

  • Liked — Everything - good value for price paid - typically French
  • Tips/Secrets — We were the only English guests which was nice. Most of staff speak English, menus in French but we do like this as we do try to test our translation skills

My wife and I dined at the Le Cremaillere restaurant with a view toward staying at the hotel. The hotel overlooks the beach, with outdoor dining available.

While the word is that you cannot find a bad meal in France, we found it at Le Cremailere. Absolutely terrible. We dined outside and to make matters worse, our waiter disappeared after serving us and leaving the check. We left payment on our table and stood waiting for our waiter when what appeared to be a busboy arrived to collect our check and money. He was actually a thief who then darted off with our cash.

The hotel/restaurant manager could not have been more rude and unsympathetic. We had to pay for an awful meal twice. We could not have had a more insulting experience.

There are plenty of nice hotels and restaurants in Normandy. This is not one of them.
