Yesterday we had lunch with friends at the Auberge de Cep. From the second we arrived at the restaurant to our time of leaving everything was exceptional. We had a large round table with pristine white clothes and napkins. Our food was traditional but exceptionally well cooked. The Terrine de Canard was tasty, followed by a carre d'agneau which was beyond esquisite. After our main course we had hot chevre followed by our desert of cassis avec and fromage blanc. Our wine ( Fleurie of course!) was brilliant. We enjoyed fantastic service throughout. After our meal the chef came to talk to his guests at their tables which was a nice touch. We will be back!

We found ourselves in Fleury and after a great wine tasting we were up for a traditional french lunch. Le Cep does not look much from the outside, but the service and the traditional french dishes were spot on. The restaurant serves freshly baked bread (which was amazing) and offered couple of tasty starters. We had the snails, lamb and beef which were all served in french fashion and were all spot on. As always, don´t let the outside appearance fool you, great food, service and value await you in this great restaurant.

We visited Le Cep on a Thursday lunchtime. From the outside, it looks a bit olde worlde, but inside the restaurant is comfortably furnished with modern prints on the walls and good quality linen and cutlery. The service is polished and efficient while low-key. The menu included some classic French dishes (foie gras, coq au vin, poached eggs in red wine, pigeon, rack of lamb), which were beautifully cooked. As you'd expect the wine list was extensive with a good choice by the carafe. We had three courses (with amuse-bouche and coffee) and our lunch took just over two hours. For British/American diners that might be a bit slow, but it is France! Well worth it for high-quality classic French cooking.

We were delighted to find out that an old favourite opened its doors again two weeks ago, and it is as good as ever. The crayfish and the poached egg in red wine starters were both excellent, and they were followed up by an excellent local lamb dish and a tasty twist on coq au vin. Cheeses and desserts followed, and the Vendanges de la Saint Martin dessert wine has to be tried to be believed. The service was also excellent, attentive but not rushed. Welcome back Le Cep.
