The White Bear Country Inn
Certificate of Excellence

We stayed at the White Bear for four nights for a family wedding in Masham. The room was large, immaculately clean and very comfortable with a large and well appointed bathroom.

The hotel is a Theakston's house on the site of the Black Sheep brewery which is a bit unusual. Despite the rooms looking out over the courtyard in front of the pub it was quiet and we were not disturbed at all by late night revelers.

Breakfast was great with everything you could want from a bowl of cornflakes to a full Yorkshire and everything in between. Service was prompt, friendly and efficient.

We were only able to dine in the hotel on the last night due to other commitments but the food was great and the beer exceptional. All of the staff that we encountered were friendly and helpful.

Stayed 2 nights in August and thoroughly enjoyed everything about the Hotel and surrounding area. Made to feel so welcome on our arrival and loved the feel of the cosy bar and great selection of beers. Stayed half board and decided to eat there at lunch time as well. Food great with a good selection both at lunch and in the evening. Breakfast a real treat with lots of local produce and everything served with a nice friendly smile.

Had a lovely bedroom on the ground floor which was a good size and had a nice comfortable bed.

Visited the Theakston brewery, which was very interesting and really enjoyed the beer tasting.

Overall a great two days and special thanks to all the staff who made our stay very enjoyable.

Would definately stay again and would recommend to all.

We stayed over on Sunday night, was allocated room 1,this was a lovely big room plenty of space for the dog bed and patio doors so you could get straight out of the room to let the dog out. Furnished to a very high standard. We had dinner in the restaurant, and breakfast in the morning, food was great quality and plenty of it. Beautiful walks down by the river. Will definitely be back.

Looked around a few different locations in North Yorkshire before settling on Masham. This is a fantastic location surrounded by walks, countryside and quaint villages. The hotel service was good and efficient and the rooms large and spacious with great comfortable big beds. The bedroom had all the little extras including a well stocked tea, coffee, chocolate selection and biscuits to compliment. Unlike some where there is only one serving this was most welcome. The bar and staff were friendly and the meals were varied and good value. They were also very dog friendly. This was booked at the last minute but I would definitely return again in the future.

A warm welcome greets you as soon as you enter the White Bear with an excellent selection of beer and wine as well as menu to please everyone, including a special menu for children.

We were treated to beautifully cooked sirloin of beef, rosey and rare the way it should be served with freshly cooked light and fluffy Yorkshire puddings, masses of potatoes, a good selection of fresh veg and our own jug of tastie gravey.

One to go to again and again.

Well appointed rooms, large, clean, super king size bed which I didn't want to get out of.
Had tin of coffee so we could make as many cafetieres as we wanted
Service was good from Rachel and john and the blonde lady who served breakfast (sorry didn't catch the name)
Dining room was nicely laid out but food was a little disappointing - devilled kidneys on a bed of salad didn't work for me and monkfish with red wine didn't quite work either
Visit the black sheep brewery bistro and the theakstons brewery tour whilst there
There is a fabulous restaurant called vennels in the town centre so overall a lovely short break
