“A gem in the Dales”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

We love Masham and having stayed at the Kings Head several times previously chose to stay overnight at the White Bear for a change. We were not disappointed, the rooms were clean and spacious. The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. The guys were happy with the selection of ales on offer and the food was excellent. The sitting room with the outside courtyard for the use of the hotel guests were a nice touch (and although we did not try it as too full from lunch the homemade cake available in the sitting room looked delish). Would definitely stay here again.

Wow !!!!! If I only needed to say one word without writing 200 that would be it !!!I am one of the fussiest people around. I am a Catering Manager as many of you will know and I never go over board about reviews , however this place is beautiful and I dont really want to tell everybody as I want to be able to book a room whenever I want to but that would be unfair. This place is special if you appreciate good , no that should be , excellent , rooms, hospitality and food . We stayed here and dined here as our Son has just moved to Masham for his work at another hotel, I cannot fault this Hotel at all and if anybody wants to inbox me feel free. The rooms are newly refurbished the bathrooms beautiful, no supplements at breakfast for even smoked salmon and scrambled eggs ( really unusual as most hotels cash in on this one!!!). We had evening meal on Saturday and whilst it was busy the service was faultless, the staff polite and efficient . My husband says its a bit disappointing that there are no faults !!!but I'm just relieved to find such a gem of a place that we can go back to, to visit a beautiful small town and our son.Thank You to The White Bear for a Wonderful weekend and anyone wondering no Our Son doesn't work here and I'm not promoting it for that reason he works at different Hotel and we cant afford to stay there !!!!!

Room Tip: We had Mickley and it was a beautiful room overlooking the car park but not in anyway noisy

The spacious, clean and well equipped rooms are just the start of this amazing find in Masham.

Three nights here spoilt us for anything else.

Attached to a traditional bar (don't worry, it's more 'boutique' than 'bogan') and a talented and interesting restaurant, the accommodation is a quiet oasis; perfect for a restful night after exploring this beautiful area or Yorkshire.

Sue and her team think of absolutely everything to help make your stay a memorable one, from beds that make you feel like you're sleeping in the clouds, to sparkling clean bathroom and free WIFI.

The White Bear is definitely on the list for a return visit.

Room Tip: Ask for the suite overlooking the courtyard, but all the rooms are quiet.

We have just returned from an overnight stay at The White Bear. The hotel is set in a lovely location backing onto the Black Sheep Brewery which is worth a visit ( despite the bear being owned by rival group Theakston's ). It is a short walk into the main market square in Masham. Our room no 11 Aysgarth was a nice size, contemporary in style, clean and well equiped with tea and coffee facilities etc. The hotel provides complimentary cake for residents in the small entrance lounge which was a nice touch and delicious. I would say that the price paid (£115 for the room) was fair. My only comment would be that the items in the breakfast room should be covered over in some way. It was a very warm morning thus all the windows and doors in the pub/restaurant area had been opened. A large number of flies were landing on the cheese and other items which was a little off putting. Other than that the full english, cooked to order was hot and nicely cooked. TIP: if visiting in hot weather take a fan - the rooms get very warm and take your own hairdryer as non supplied.

This hotel has the best staff, wonderful bedrooms, excellent food and above all attention to detail. We held a party here and the buffet was the star of the occasion. Nothing was too much trouble and even the grandchildren were made to feel special. The location is perfect and Sue's gardening skills make the incredible floral decoration just stunning. Many thanks to Sue and her wonderful staff. Highly recommended for anyone who wants a special treat whilte visiting the Dales. Not to mention two breweries which both have visitor centres and tours!

Room Tip: Book early as this hotel has a superb reputation

What more could you want than a hotel attached to a very good brewery. Located a short walk from the main market square so it's close to everything but far enough to be quiet when you need it. The service is excellent, the staff can't do enough for you and the food is locally sourced. I will be visiting again later this year with our two dogs who are welcomed as much as we are.
