From arrival to departure faultless. Friendly, helpful staff. First class food, 5 star hygiene rating, special menus to cater to all tastes. Steak night highly recommended. All this plus excellent bar, with well kept ales. What more could you want?

As my wife is from Yorkshire and we are both partial to a glass or two of real ale, a night in Masham is a treat. We just had one night at the King's Head but would certainly visit again. This imposing building in the Market Square is now part of a chain but it still has a very local feel and offers decent accomodation at an affordable price.
We stayed for just one night - a rather late booking so we didn't have much choice of rooms. Our room was fairly simple and a little short of space but ok for us. We had a great view of the square and despite being above the hotel bar, we didn't have any issues with noise at night.
Be warned - this is an old building. The rooms have plenty of character but plenty of quirks too. The floor in the bedroom seemed to vary in level every couple of feet. Very few features seemed horizontal or vertical and the door had a mind of it's own - sometimes it would open and sometimes not!
We had lunch and dinner in the hotel - both better than we expected. There is a nice dining room for the evening and you can always retire to the bar afterwards (or keep your table).
Practically, this is the centre of the village. Parking is no problem in the square - plenty of room (even at weekends) and there is a nominal charge payable at the 'honesty box'.Once you've done the brewery tours and wandered around a bit - you've done Masham. After that, this is a base to travel further afield.
The King's Head may not be a 'luxury' hotel, but it's all you need for a very pleasant overnight stay in this area.

Room Tip: Choose a room overlooking the square. It's a quiet village and at least you'll have a view o...

The hotel is in an excellent location, right on the market square in Masham and only a short walk to the Black Sheep and Theakston Brewery Centres.

We arrived early and were able to check in. The hotel staff were friendly and accomodating and the room was pleasant enough, however, I agree with a previous review - it is more a pub with rooms. There was tea and coffee making facilities but I don't recall a hairdryer and the only toiletries were hand dispenser pumps. Our bed was the squeakiest I have ever slept in - it was comfortable it just woke you up every time you moved!

The restaurant is pleasant enough and the food was OK, however, my partner ordered a beef and ale pie - this was literally served as a pie without any vegetables or chips. My venison pie did come with vegetables and was nice. The salted caramel dessert was good.

Breakfast is self-service (apart from the cooked breakfast element) - including having to get your own tea and coffee. There was a decent enough selection of cold choices and also bread and crumpets to toast.

Overall, you can't beat the location for exploring Masham and the surrounding areas.

They understand if friends have a good time. What a lovely hotel. The room was excellent with everything you need. They have make their promise come through: "We'll make you feel at home". Thank you.

We stayed at this hotel on a Saturday and Sunday night. The location is great, in The Market Place. The food in the bar and in the restaurant is very good (same menu in both). The staff are all helpful and pleasant. However, this place is vastly overpriced for the facilities it offers. Our room was in the courtyard behind the hotel. The room was small and dark, but very warm. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was freezing, the radiator didn't work and there wasn't enough room, as the suite had been crammed into a small space. There are no complimentary toiletries (eg; shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, shower cap, shoe shine etc etc) only a horrible soap dispenser in the shower and on the sink. Certainly, not enough to provide a decent stay if you arrive without your own toiletries. I asked about complimentary toiletries and the manager said they only provided the soap in the dispensers (which is awful). Also reported the radiator in the bathroom and it was not sorted out before we left. I felt the room was vastly overpriced at £110.00 per night B&B. We have stayed in far superior hotels with swimming pools and spa's and paid around the same price. I would have expected this place to be around the £60-£70 per night (being generous). I would say this is a pub with rooms and not a hotel!
Cannot fault the location and only a couple of minutes walk to The Black Sheep Brewery.
