down the original road into masham is the lovely millgate bed and breakfast. we were greeted on arrival with warmth and friendliness you would expect when visiting family.sue gave us a tour of the house telling us about the history of their beautiful home.
homemade scones and drinks on arrival was a lovely touch. just one of the little surprises that awaited us and made our stay there feel as if you were part of the family. we stayed in the twin room as the en suite was booked. the room was exceptional to say it was classed as a twin and the beds are so comfortable. every little detail has been thought of to make your stay there a wonderful experience.
in the morning andrew and sue served a cooked breakfast freshly made to order. Also there was cereal and fruit available.
andrew and sue make you feel so comfortable and welcome when you stay that you actually forget you are in a bed and breakfast, in my opinion the experience is actually a whole lot more. An amazing place to stay and we will return! Highly recommended.

Dear Steven
Your review has made us feel over the moon. Thank you for calling us amazing and highly recommending us.

We love giving our guests the Grand Tour of the house. I know we only have two guest bedrooms but you will agree that our home is full of history. We try very hard to make the Millgate Poor House, Fire Station and Jail more welcoming than in the old days and we are flattered that you felt like part of the family.

We are located on a quiet lane used mainly by walkers that is so charming it is difficult to imagine that it was once the main route into the Market Place just yards away.

We loved your company and we really enjoyed the surprise bottle of wine you gave us when you left. Have a lovely Anniversary Cruise and come back and tell us all about it. If you are camping in Masham call in for a cuppa and a chat. We are both looking forward to your return trip.

Kindest regards
Sue & Andrew Burrell

We have just returned from a lovely stay at the Millgate.
We stayed 2 nights - the first night we were attending a wedding reception at the nearby Swinton Park and the second night we were joined by our 16 month old son. The location was just right - very central but quiet with good free parking. The twin room was great for our needs - cosy, very clean, all the amenties we needed, very comfy beds and enough room for a travel cot on the second night. Even though the room was not ensuite it didn't matter as the bathroom was just down the stairs and was basically for our sole use throughout the stay.
Sue and Andrew were very welcoming and especially lovely with our little boy Ben. He even ended up with a playmate on Wednesday morning (one little boy who Sue childminds for) and they enjoyed running round the garden and 'sharing' the sit in car! Breakfast was fantastic - well presented and tasty.
We will definitely think about returning, possibly with friends so we can book out the family suite!
Thanks for making our stay so enjoyable :-)

Dear Claire
Thank you for your charming review. It was so nice having your lovely family to stay at our home. We love the location too as we are so close the heart of Masham, just off the Market Place but on our own quiet lane. We are so fortunate that Masham has so much free parking on the Market Place and on Millgate.

I am pleased that the twin room suited you and baby Ben’s cot when he joined you for your second night. Ben is so sweet and didn’t he sleep well for you? He was a delight at breakfast which he seemed to enjoy as much as you two did. We are very flattered that you described breakfast as fantastic.

Hope to see you all again in the family suite with Grandparents too. If you wish, we can babysit for Ben whilst you all go for a meal in any of the pubs/resturaunts in Masham just a short stroll from Millgate.

Kind regards
Sue & Andrew Burrell.

We stayed with Sue and Andrew over the previous weekend. We stayed for three nights in the twin room, and couldn't of asked for a nicer stay!!

Sue and Andrew are such nice, warm hosts. The B&B is very clean, homely, and welcoming.

Sue in an amazing cook, and we had lovely breakfasts each morning which included freshly made challah one morning, which was delicious, and probably the nicest I have ever tasted. (along with all of the other freshly baked goods she makes, including the scones, which are amazing too!)

I felt really well rested after our weekend away. I thought it might of been strange sleeping in twins beds as a couple, but it wasn't at all...and I genuinely could of slept for Britain through the day as well as the nights, as though beds are just too comfortable ;).

I also loved the - Au Lait - shampoo and body wash mini bottles. I have used this brand before at home, and is nice and gentle, and good quality, so was extremely pleased and borderline giddy - to have more of these little bottles infront of me...

Sue and Andrew are very laid back people, but very attentive too. Andrew was looking after their grandaughter when we arrived, who is very sweet. And they have a lovely dog called Bertie, who has his own kennel in the back garden, and is very chilled out too.

Bertie was never actually in the B&B whilst we were there or at least around. And it wouldn't be a problem to us if he was, as he is the sweetest thing. But we both have bad allergy problems, which can be triggered by pet hair, so without sounding selfish, it was nice not to be sneezing every two minutes. Saying that, the place is so clean, it probably wouldn't make any difference anyway.

So thank you both again for a wonderful stay, wonderful breakfasts, and just your hospitally in gereral. You are very friendly, genuine, laid back, not fretting people, and you made us very happy. ;)

Dear H & D
Your review is so thoughtful and charming. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay so much. We certainly enjoyed having you as our guests for the weekend. We have had so many compliments about our beds as they are very comfortable and I am pleased that you appreciated the toiletries we provide.

Thank you for giving Burtie our Labrador a mention too. He is 14 years old and lives in the garden in his own kennel. He is getting used to the extra attention when guests go outside to pet him as he is not allowed into the house.

We were very touched by the personal comments you made about us. We are having a lovely time in our new venture and it is because all of our guests have been so friendly, laid back and lovely too that we are so happy.

Thank you both and thank you also to everyone who has sent us cards, gifts, given us feedback and written these lovely reviews as we would not be Number One on TripAdvisor without you all.

Kindest regards
Sue & Andrew Burrell

We were warmly greeted with fresh scones and a cold beer in the garden. Sue and Andrew are a very friendly hospitable couple with a good knowledge of the area and were very willing to give us ideas of where to go. We stayed in the double en suite bedroom which was finished to a high standard with a very comfortable king sized bed and modern bathroom. Water, tea, coffee and biscuits were provided in the room. Breakfast was excellent, cooked to order with the addition of cereals, fresh fruit and yoghurts and on one of our days, delicious home made bread.

The B&B is situated in a quiet road close to the market square and in walking distance of all the main pubs, restaurants, shops etc.

All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend and would thoroughly recommend a stay there.

Dear Sue
Your review is wonderful and it was a real pleasure having your company for the weekend. It was nice to sit in the garden sharing a cold beer with you on your arrival as It was so hot in Masham during your stay.

Thank you for your compliments about our Award Winning Breakfast. I agree that The Jewish Challah Bread I baked for Sunday morning was a treat. It was the first time I have made this bread. I love baking a different recipe bread each morning for breakfast so do come back for more pleasant surprises.

We hope you will return soon as Andrew has loads more places to recommend for you both to enjoy.

Kind regards
Sue & Andrew.

From arrival to leaving Sue and Andrew made this a pleasurable and memorable stay. Warm scones on arrival and an excellent, tasty breakfast with local produce the next day. Plentiful supply of filtered water provided throughout our stay. Stayed in the double en-suite, comfortable king sized bed, lovely bathroom with modern shower and bath. Ideally located for a visit to the Black Sheep brewery or for just touring the area .
This has to rate as one of the best B&B's we have stayed in and will definately return.

Dear Kerrie and Andrew – Thank you for your wonderful review and your lovely Thank you card. I am glad that a scone lover loved my scones and that your stay with us was so pleasurable. The chilled bottles of filtered water were essential as you arrived at the start of our second Masham heat wave.

We are both extremely flattered that you rate us as one of the best B&B’s you’ve stayed in as we try very hard to make every guest feel special.

We have both been looking out for butterflies on our walks along the banks of the River Ure thanks to Andrew. Do come back soon as we really enjoyed your company and one night is just not enough time to see everything this lovely town has to offer.

Kindest Regards
Sue & Andrew Burrell

Dear Scott
Thank you for your review. I was so pleased to hear that you all completed your 100 mile charity bike ride safely. It was lovely having the four of you to stay.

I am now undecided whether to go with your “Super Cake for Long Days in the Saddle” title or my own “Bicycle Booster Bar”. Either way I am so glad the energy cake bars I prepared for your journey did the trick.

Do let me know how the recipe I sent you turns out – I am really pleased that it is perfect road food and I will make sure I offer it to other cyclists when they leave.

Hope to see you all again next year and good luck for future charity rides

Kind regards
Sue & Andrew.

Dear Clive
Thank you so much for your review. I am glad you appreciated the Long Room which we use for safe storage of bicycles, sporting equipment and as a boot room for our guests who have been walking..

We loved having you both to stay and I am really pleased that you enjoyed the baking each day. I made a German Stollen for breakfast this morning. I soaked the fruit in rum overnight and it was really tasty.

Do come back soon, we really enjoyed your company.

Kind regards
Sue & Andrew.
