Beautiful surroundings, devonshire tea with edible flowers, fine china, opera in the background. Well worth a visit.

My husband and I stayed here on our first night in New Zealand. We wanted something that would be comfortable and easy since we knew we would be jet-lagged from the long plane ride. The main care-taker Trish was out of town, but her friend Ruth took care of us when we arrived and made us a lovely breakfast in the morning. It was such a cozy and wonderful space and the garden is just beautiful.

We stayed here for one night on our journey from Paihia to Rotorua. Trish and her daughter welcomed us with delicious home-cooked lavender and date scones and coffee. We stayed in the Lavender Room, a large room decorated in a lavender theme with an ensuite bathroom.

The B&B shares a separate house with the tearoom and shop. There was an array of herb based products for sale as well as chutneys and garlic sauce all made on the premises. We purchased some.

The Lavender room was very comfortable. The layout of the property is unusual and quaint but has a fabulous herb and flower garden which people pay to walk around. As guests we did it for free.

There are no restaurants within walking distance so we drove to a local pub in Rangariri – the Rangariri Pub. The food was very good and reasonably priced but seemed a little down market.

A comfortable stay and we would return to Herb Haven.
