Stayed one night en-route to another destination for a wedding. The staff were lovely. The room perfectly adequate for our needs - no traffic or pub noise intruded on our sleep. Shower - lovely, hot and powerful. Good quality toiletries in bathroom. Cookies, bottled water, fresh milk and fresh fruit along with a variety of different tea and instant coffee. Restaurant food was good - not fine dining but then we weren't expecting or paying for that. The waiter was incredibily patient while we made up our minds about what we wanted to eat. Would stay again if passing through.

I took my daughter here for Sunday lunch yesterday. The restaurant itself is charming but the food was very mediocre. I orderd the haddock and chips - must have been the smallest piece of fish they could find and the batter was soggy. My daughter had the roast beef which, at £13.95, was way overpriced. The only good thing about the food was that it was very hot! The service was good and the staff (with the exception of one waiter who had not one ounce of personality and absolutely no facial expression at all - in fact he was a bit creepy!) were all friendly. I wouldn't go back.

I stayed mid week, it stared really well met by a lovely girl who was chatty friendly and informative. She showed me to my room a twin room lovely and large. There was lots of lovely personal touch which would be provide by a higher star hotel; such a note from Sharon the manager, a decent size jug of fresh milk in the fridge and fresh fruit, bottled water, nice toiletries in the bathroom.
The room had a small sofa, a desk and chair and a great hair dryer.
I felt that with small changes my stay and others would be massively improved; the shower curtain (who like to be stuck to a wet shower curtain)had a few tiny spots of black mould, the tap had the C for cold missing and the bathroom need a paint. Such a shame because the bedding the towels and overall room was clean and of good quality. The bear is in a pub and on a busy road which I knew and was prepared for and not a problem.
The breakfast that we had in the morning was nicely presented and tasty and the guy with quite voice/good customer service.
Overall it was ok but could have been great.....due to the above c I can only put average .

For one night only and arriving at rush hour we navigated the traffic to access the Bears carpark which was available for patrons only. The receptionist/ waitress was delightful, showing us to our room (a nice touch). Our room was acceptable, the shower was great. Another rarity, real milk in a fridge with bottled water and some fruit. Breakfast was good, no buffet but menu for hot choices. The pleasant waiter was attentive and was happy to help us with queries regarding our potential travel plans locally. Ideal location for Hampton court and sandown races .

We loved the atmosphere of this lovely and historic pub. The staff were amazing and it was good value for money. The bed was really comfortable and room lovely and quiet even though the pub is just downstairs

Room Tip: We were at the back of the pub so in road noise at all (room 4)

Just spent one night in The Bear at Esher. Cannot fault the service at all. All staff very professional and welcoming. Our room was the Polar Bear room. Very clean with a comfortable bed. Nice touch was complimentary bottles of water, tea and coffee making facilities with fresh milk in the mini bar and a couple of pieces of fresh fruit also. There was an iron and ironing board in the room too should you need it. The ambience of the whole building was very relaxing and welcoming. Breakfast was delicious. I had the eggs benedict without the sauce (watching my waistline!) my other half had the cooked breakfast. Both enjoyed very much. A lovely pot of tea too. Free wifi in all areas. There were a few areas that maybe could do with a little decorating touch up but that would really be a pedantic area to complain about.
Will definitely recommend this hotel to others and will stay here when we return to Esher in the future. Thank you for a lovely stay.
