“Could do better”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 January 2014

I stayed at Rosemead for 1 night only. The reception I received was warm and friendly. The house is nicely decorated but a bit tired in certain areas. The beige carpet (not a good colour for heavy traffic) was probably very nice when fitted but now past its best. In the bedroom stains are evident.

The bedroom was a good size. The double bed was 2 singles bolted together and consequently had an annoying seam down the middle but it did have a duvet as opposed to sheet and blankets which was good. I feel the mattress is past it's best.

The en-suite bathroom was compact but clean. The shower enclosure was good in that it was a complete unit so no unsightly mouldy sealer. The shower itself was poor !! slightly more than a dribble and most disappointing.

Breakfast was adequate in the pleasant dining room with plenty of choice.

Had I paid full price for my stay I would have been bitterly disappointed but as the room was on offer and discounted it slightly made up for the shortcomings.

We stayed overnight and found Charles very welcoming. This was nice as we are used to the impersonal service in large chain hotels. The breakfast was very good, and use of the kitchen if we needed it would have been a real and unusual bonus! The rooms were very clean , but I agree a little tired in places...our bed could have definitely could have done with a new mattress.......not uncomfortable just noisy!!! Also no double glazing in our double room at the front....in fact the window did not quite shut properly...so you did get traffic noise but this eases off at night. Despite not perfect....we would stay again because it was welcoming and relaxed. Thanks

I just stayed one night. It was very comfortable, and Charles, the owner, was friendly and welcoming: supplying keys and information etc. He also cooked a very good traditional breakfast. Quiet location in a pleasant part of Surrey/South London.

We stayed for three nights and used the guesthouse for bed and shower only as we had lots to do in the area. However, it's great to know we could have used the facilities as if we were in a home away from home. We had the double ensuite. It was well equipped with kettle, coffee etc; tv; hair dryer; shampoo, soap etc.
Kasha was in charge and she was gracious and helpful on our arrival even though we were quite late. Breakfast was lovely and I liked the communal table it was served on.
Reading the mixed reviews here, I agree that the stained carpets let the place down a bit, but otherwise the house is spotless so don't let careless guests who came before you ruin what is a very comfortable, friendly, reasonably priced alternative to accommodation in this very expensive area of the country

I stayed at Rosemead for 4 nights. We stayed in room 3 (which slept 4 of us, 2 children in a bunk and me and my husband in twin beds, a double would have been nice). The Guest House is situated in a very affluent area of surrey. We needed to be near Cobham as my son was on a developmental course at the Chelsea FC training ground, and it was a 10 min drive from the guest house. On arrival we were greeted by the owner who showed us around and made us feel very welcome. Its a beautiful house but needs a bit of TLC. The carpet throughout the downstairs and bedroom was very old and worn, and had many staines, which I am sure a good carpet cleaner would remove. There was 1 table with 6 chairs in the dining area, which was fine as long as all guests didn't want breakfast at the same time. Breakfast was adequate and there was plenty on offer. The beedroom as mentined before was tired, but clean enough (apart from a stained carpet). The windows are not double glazed so noise from the road was loud (from about 05.30). The curtains were VERY thin and so the room was very bright from about 04.30. We didn't get the best nights sleep, so we had to make sure we had early nights to compensate for the early wake up. The en-suit bathroom was clean and less tired looking. The garden was large and the children loved being out there playing football, it was well maintained with a pond and plenty of seating. There was a kitchen that guests could use to cook lunch or an evening meal. It had everything you needed.
Overall we had a good stay, we were made to feel very welcome and the staff went out of there way to make sure we had everything we needed. There are a few changes that could be made to improve the overall experience, but we would consider coming back if we needed a place to stay in this area.

Totally agree, the owner of this Guest House runs it in such a way, that when you stay, it feels like home from home! Myself & 5 other guests had open access to our own room, the kitchen(on this day self service), living room and beautiful gardens. The accommodation is clean. Admittedly some of the furnishings are showing their age but by making some days self service and not updating furnishings on a regular basis the owner appears to be keeping the costs down so that visitors like myself can stay in an idyllic part of Surrey, I wouldn't normally be able to afford.

I arrived after 10pm and to gain access had to following an entertaining envelope trail which at the end contained my entrance instructions( again I can see this keeps costs down.)

Remembering all my instructions I easily found my standard single room , which while small was clean, with crisp white sheets , tv, kettle and variety off drinks, biscuits. Also shower gel, soap and towel provided. Bed comfortable and plenty of cupboards/drawers for you to use if you are staying longer than my one night.

The house is in a very quiet area and guests are provided with literature asking them to respect other guest's peace and quiet between 8am -8pm.

In the morning myself and the other guests served our own breakfast which, should I wished, could of consisted of a cooked breakfast and/or continental breakfast as plentiful supplies left out for each.

All the other guests were up before me, and a few mentioned that the owner had left something on the stove simmering slowly over water , which they were concerned about as could have caught fire. Having read previous reports this seems to be an ongoing theme and may need addressing by the owner. However, the place has many smoke alarms and is run so efficiently that I believe owner must have gauged there was enough water not to be a problem. But I think you may get further feedback on this site about this!

All in all a brilliant, beautiful setting and excellent place to stay particularly if you are budget-conscious. I highly recommend this guest house and shall definitely be returning

Room Tip: Rooms at back will be totally quiet as small road at front , but even at front very quiet.

We stayed at Rosemead for one night only, just after the snows of January 2013. We were 11 people including two children and we had the entire place to ourselves (the two single rooms were unoccupied). Budget was a consideration as it was the start of a big family weekend, and we were happy to find a place that could accommodate us all at a decent price and without having to run around for breakfast in the morning. Parking on the doorstep was an added bonus!

This is a small business in a beautiful house located in a green part of outer London. Charles is a kind person, accommodating, professional and very discreet. He had all keys ready before our arrival, which he handed to the first of our group and showed them around. All public areas, rooms and beds were comfortable, neat and well-presented. We enjoyed being together in the lovely lounge, making conversation and watching TV (large flat-screen, nicer than in the photos) while the children played games on the internet (free wifi), and it did feel just like a "home from home". This was helped by clear instructions and notices in the hall telling us of the basics (how to lock/re-enter, where to leave preferences for breakfast, places to go, etc) so that we could be by ourselves and enjoy our time together without someone watching over us - priceless!

Like many English houses, the building is single glazed but the heaters were on all night and kept the rooms and corridors nice and warm (I couldn't help thinking that double glazing would save a lot of money in heating). The standard double on the top floor is the biggest room, with nice views, and it was good to have a washbasin in this room as the toilet and bathroom are on the floor below. The other rooms were more cosy, well-planned and had attached bathrooms. I liked that the bunk bed in the four-person room was big enough to sleep adults comfortably. Breakfast was ample and relaxed, with a choice of continental and full English, and - while people from the continent can never quite appreciate English sausages - none of us could doubt Charles's service.

The only minor thing was that the iron in our room had a label saying "electrical test failed", which we noticed only after using it - perhaps it shouldn't be in the room as the mistake is an easy one to make.

Go there if you are looking for a quiet, welcoming, relaxed place to stay with the leisure of a lounge and garden to wander into. Not far away, Esher high street is bustling with restaurants and bars and Claygate has half-hourly connections to central London. We would definitely choose to stay there again.

Room Tip: Each room is different, the standard double on the top floor has lots of space and access to a good...
