In respect of Hotel North 1, there is nothing here to make one feel happy in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. I had stayed in this hotel in the past and it was passable. This last time, it was substandard. The internet connection didn't work the whole 3 night stay so I couldn't get any work done, the front desk staff lacked any ability to do anything about it and just sat there with "what do you want me to do about it" looks on their faces. They looked bored most of the time. Previous staff were much more friendly. The toilet in the room wasn't screwed to the floor properly (just use your imagination). The restaurant next door was closed due to a fire? although they offered a breakfast shuttle bus to their sister hotel (North 2).The rooms are extremely dated (a bit 70's). Alot of noise early in the a.m. because there are alot of workers getting out on an early start. Finally, the worst was the cold showers every single day.

The only upsides: satellite tv with alot to choose from (but watch it on an smallish old style tv) and the rooms were clean. This hotel is a NOT!

Room Tip: there are no elevators so if that's important, stay on ground floor. A room on the upper level a...

This Hotel has about the smallest rooms I've ever seen in a hotel. We ordered a room with 2 beds and required space for a Play Pen as well. We had a hard time finding a space for the Play Pen (2.5' x 3'). The beds were also very creaky and did not have much support. We also had to kill a couple of ants in the room. Glad we only had to spend one night.

Comfortable! if basic, rooms, friendly staff and close to restaurants including its own. I've stayed here several times and it is very consistent.

The Hotel North in Goose Bay is the best place to stay. It is near the airport, $10.00 by taxi.
The rooms are clean and comfortable with a restaurant with good homecooked style meals with a daily special. The "JIgs Dinner" is a must to try, a traditional Newfoundland/Labrador meal.

Room Tip: Ground floor a must for the elderly as there is no elevator.

Stayed here for a couple of nights on business. Doesn't look much from the outside, but the inside is very comfortable and clean. The hotel seems very newly built and is in excellent condition. Good beds, free internet, decent showers. There is a/c in the rooms although this is a through the wall unit and bit noisy to have on at night. The hotel has a restaurant next door which is really first rate and this is where they serve breakfast. Would definitely stay here again.

Just stayed here over night for a stop over.

Check in was very fast and staff very pleasant.

The room is a good size but furniture is really basic. Coffe maker and bar fridge is in the room. Bar fridge has pop in it that you can purchase. Ironing board and iron is also available in the room.

You have satellite television in the room, so lots of channels to watch.

Air conditioning available for the Summer and electric heat for the winter.

I had a cracked floor tile in the bathroom that I almost cut my foot on.

House keeping was in the hall way cleaning around 8 am, so make sure you have the do not disturb sign out on the door. Also when you leave your room you have to manually lock the door.

Free wi-fi inter net in the room, I had trouble keeping connected, but others in my group had no issues.

To make a local phone call it does cost 25 cents per call and if you want to call long distance there is a $2.25 connection fee plus so much per minute.

There is a restaurant right next door to the hotel and there are some rooms attached to the restaurant. Also a tavern a couple doors over that has a bank machine.

I only stayed one night, and I had a good night's sleep here.

Stayed many times ranging from just overnight to four nights at a time. Comfortable hotel with friendly staff. Warm in winter - and a good job too as temperatures can be way below zero for many months of the year. Air-conditioning in rooms for the summer months too. Direct dial telephone in rooms but all calls attract a 25c (+tax) charge - even 1-800 numbers. Free wireless broadband internet access in room. Fax service too (pay). Use of laundry room for $3.

You may be accommodated in main building or similar annexe across ample car park. Annexe is quieter and adjoins a la carte restaurant which opens at 0600hrs for early departures. Food reasonably good.

Long walk from airport (40 mins) but probably closest hotel to it. Within 5 mins walk there are other eating places including Chinese, A&W, Subway and (a novelty) Trappers Bar where you cook your own barbecue steak (indoors !) . Medium size supermarket 10 mins walk. Also Rent-a-Wreck car hire - cheaper than the majors up at the airport - about 5 mins walk away or they will deliver. You will not want to walk too far in winter ...

Go visit the landfill site and see the black bears. Awesome (but watch your back!).
