“Best Value in Anguilla”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

After exhaustively researching just about every hotel/resort in Anguilla, we decided on Turtle's Nest. And we were not at all disappointed with our decision. As we drove up the old and tattered driveway and looked upon the obviously worn out exterior of the building, we initially had some concerns. But we were soon warmly greeted, shown to our room, and after walking down the hallway to the living area, all of our worries melted away which brings us to the pros of this hotel/resort.
View: The third story, 270 degree view of the Mead's Bay area was nothing short of spectacular. It was truly extraordinary to be able to sit on the private, spacious balcony and enjoy the view with a book, drink, and every meal.
Room: The room itself was immaculate with updated appliances, ample space, and adjustable A/C.
Hotel grounds/staff: it was also very clean and the staff was always friendly. We didn't use the pool but we passed by it every day and it appeared well kept. There were always plenty of beach chairs, umbrellas, and towels. Booking with the hotel was very easy and the office staff was more than happy to assist with ideas and adventures on the island. I would book this hotel again without hesitation.
Location: It's right in the middle of Mead's Bay. There's no restaurant on site; however, there's an extremely nice, and expensive, restaurant (Straw Hat) just next door, and Blanchard's Beach Shack (cheap but delicious) is less than a ten minute leisurely walk along the beach. If you're looking for a super market, the Best Buy is less than a 5 minute drive which has everything you'd find at a Walmart, and also has better gluten-free options than some US food stores. The beach itself was very clean and the water was absolutely pristine. We rented an SUV, drove around the island often and used less than half a tank of gasoline. If you plan to explore off of the paved roads, then I'd recommend getting something with four-wheel drive which we're thankful we did.
Activities: None at the actual hotel but Mead's Bay had plenty to do. There is an excellent snorkeling spot on the northeast end of the beach. We also noticed other water sports in the bay such as tubing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and sailing.
For us there were really no cons at all to this hotel. We weren't looking for a typical resort with pool games, six restaurants on site, etc. so this hotel was perfect for us. We felt as if our own home was transposed here on the beautiful beach. Keep in mind that we were here during the low season, and our hotel (and most others) was probably less than a quarter occupied, so that contributed to the rating. Even still, as I've mentioned previously, I'd re-book with Turtle's Nest in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 3AW which was in phase 1 and had an amazing view.

My family of 5 (kids 12, 9 & 6) loved our stay at the Nest. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite on the 3rd floor and loved it from the moment we walked in. Betania walked us up to our room and there was a bottle of champagne waiting on ice for us along with a thank you card for choosing TN. That is a great start.

The suite itself was quite large (1500-1800 sq/ft) and plenty for our family. The master had its own full bath with a king size bed. The other bedroom had 2 twin beds and a full bath. The family room had a pull out couch with a queen sized bed. There was also a half bathroom. So, 2.5 baths total. This was great for 5 people.

The kitchen was well-appointed with full sized refrigerator, oven, microwave and blender. There was also a washer and dryer that came in very handy and eliminated the need for overpacking. Further, every day (except Sunday) the room was serviced. This included having our dishes washed (which I didn't expect) and having towels replaced, paper towels and toiletries replaced as needed, beds made, the whole place cleaned, and even our clothes folded if they were laying out. I didn't expect this level of service in a condo. There were also always clean beach towels and plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas on the beach.

I cannot stress how friendly and caring the TN staff are. Everybody made a point to ask how we were doing and if we were enjoying our stay. This really made us feel at home. It was very difficult to leave on our last day.

TN's location on Meads is fantastic. It's basically in the center of the bay on a great part of the beach. Straw Hat (one of our favorite restaurants) is about a 30 second walk away and Blanchard's Beach Shack (another favorite) is about a 5 minute walk down the beach. Other restaurants within walking distance include Jacala (phenomenal), Ocean Echo (great food), Firefly, Blanchard's, and the Viceroy has some restaurants. We rented a car and were just a few minutes away from some other fantastic restaurants and beaches including Maundays Bay, Rendezvous Bay (loved The Place), The Cove (loved Smokey's), Picante, Geraud's (ate there 4 times) and many others. Shoal Bay East is a bit of a drive, relatively speaking...20 minutes or so...but well worth the trip. We parked and ate at Elodia's while there (twice) and loved it.

I have to mention the turtles at TN. Well, they are actually tortoises and my kids had to visit them every time we passed them. There are about 15 of them and they are very friendly. They enhanced the trip for our kids.

My only (minor) complaint about our stay at TN was the water pressure in the master shower. This was fixed when we talked to the front office, but the hot water just wasn't as good as in the other shower, so we all used that one most of the time.

We will absolutely return to Anguilla and TN. This was one of my favorite vacations of all time and I cannot recommend TN enough. You get fantastic service and a great room on one of the best beaches in the world. Further, the price value (compared to neighboring hotels) is unbeatable.

Room Tip: If you want a more panoramic view and better sunset views, ask for a room in Phase 1, the West build...

We just returned from our honeymoon on Anguilla. We stayed at Turtle's Nest and could not have been happier! Betania had everything so perfectly arranged and everything was seemless. She arranged for us to have a couples massage on our balcony and set up our excursion on the lovely chocolat. Our week was like a fairy tale. The room was beautiful with lovely decor and perfectly suited our needs. It was convenient to some nice, although rather expensive (Straw Hat) restaurants. Blanchards beach shack was our favorite. The view from our balcony was unmatched and the short walk to to the beach was easy and convenient.
We drove all over the island to the other beaches and never saw another property we liked better than TN. I thought Meads Bay was absolutely gorgeous and the water crystal clear.
We plan to return to Anguilla and see no need in researching further properties as TN was perfect.

We usually stay at Carimar down the beach, but we waited too long and it was filled. This seemed to be a common thing with many we talked to at Turtle's Nest. All week long we weighed the pros and cons, Carimar vs. Turtle's Nest, and it really ended as a toss up, with maybe TN slightly ahead. But you want a review of TN, so here goes:

We arrived early Sat. evening when the office was closed. The gate guard handed us our keys. I find their numbering rather confusing for each condo, but we had a first floor condo in the older building (building one). I think we were like 1AE or some such.

First impression was fantastic. Huge, huge condo, all white, gleaming tiles, smelled very clean. Open up the door to the back deck and boom, Mead's Bay in all it's glory. Unlike Carimar, it is air conditioned throughout, not just the bedrooms.

Went in to master bedroom and noticed it is really a master bedroom/bathroom combo. No door or anything to shower and toilet area. Rather weird...but there is another full bath in the hall across from the second bedroom, for those who prefer less public, well, whatever. Also the shower pressure in the master was dismal/trickle, but the pressure in the other bathroom's cruise sized shower was fantastic. We did not run out of hot water at all as others have mentioned, and we showered one after the other.

The second room is smallish but certainly adequate, about the same size as the second bedroom at Carimar.

One issue that I think TN is aware of is that when it rains, their tile in front of the condos, from the office to the buildings, is super slick. I had a very nasty fall the first night we were there. I did not report it because I had nothing major but a bruised body and bumped head. Heard from a local that I was lucky and many, many people have been hurt on these tiles. I think this must be true as it is the only resort I have ever been to that requires you to sign a separate no liability contract. Wouldn't it be easier to just replace/fix the tiles?

Most fellow guests were our age, middle to upper middle-agers, and very friendly. The beach area is not as crowded as Carimar because I think occupancy potential and occupancy itself is lower. There seems to be less "we better get our towels out on our chair at the crack of dawn" mentality than at Carimar.

Our air conditioner in the bedroom was not working, they tried to fix it one day, and replaced it the next, very promptly.

The outside of the building looks a little weather worn and could use some cosmetic help.

The pool area is nice but superfluous. Never say anyone use it, although I did swim in it the last day, because, well, it was there.

Betania in the office is a sweetheart, as is Carol, our maid for the week.

Just a smidge pricier than Carimar, I wish they would do the same special as Carimar in off season, five days, then two days free. I think if they would do this, they would probably be at max occupancy.

So, a little quieter, less crowded and more mellow than Carimar. TN next year it is, I think...

Room Tip: We really like the first (older building) for better views, and there is something to be said for gr...

Thank you for staying with us at "The Nest". We totally agree with your praises for Betania and Carol. They are dedicated employees and we appreciate their loyal service to our guests.
Sorry to hear about your fall in the Porte Cachere area. This was a surprise to us. We only had one other person fall after a flash rain when they were running from the beach back to their condo. Hence our signage to be careful!
Our goal is to make sure your stay is memorable and that you will return. Anything that we can do to improve the quality of your stay is #1 on our list. Let us know.
We do offer specials in Low Season. Please visit our website for this year's Fall Specials.
Final note: we do appreciate all repeat business and offer a 10% discount off an entire stay. Please keep this in mind the next time you book with us. Looking forward to seeing you at Turtle's Nest in the near future.

Nice and quiet property tucked into the heart of the West End Beach. We were in short walking distance via the beach to so many restaurants, grocery store and other hotel properties to their facilities such as the Viceroy.

We have been coming to AXA for four years now in April and love staying at Turtles Nest! All the staff is friendly and wonderful from Betania at the front office desk, Scooby maintaining the grounds, and caring for the turtles, Darrel maintaining the building, the fantastic housekeeping staff and the night watchman, (Donald I think).

We have stayed in 3AE, 2 bedroom unit in the Phase 2 building twice, 4AE, 3 bedroom unit in Phase 2 once and this year we booked 3AE, a 1 bedroom unit in the Phase1 building. All units were clean, well equipped kitchen and working AC, WIFI & TV's. No complaints from us! Some will be unhappy about the stairs and no elevator but we find it a great way to work off all the great meals we experience at the local dinning establishments.

The accessibility of the beach and local restaurants within walking distance and now the new Best Buy market make it very convenient to just relax. Mead's Bay is my favorite beach, the waves can be a bit rough on occasion but due to its location I find the clarity of the water to be the best on the island, with very little or no sand suspended in it. It just doesn't get any better in our eyes. And as mentioned in many posts it is not overly crowded, plenty of beach for all.

We have always found the units to be very clean and well maintained. They do have small 20 gallon electric hot water heaters, but typically each bath has one as well as one for the kitchen and washer. Knowing this we have always adjusted accordingly and had few issues. We have never had a problem with the water quality, we use loads of ice made using the tap water with never an issue health wise.

I know some are not fond of the exterior facade but we can live with it. When we are on the beach or the unit veranda enjoying the close up views of the ocean and sunsets the facade matters little. The buildings do have a worn look to them but having lived near the ocean for most of my life I know how hard salt air is on structures and the need for constant maintenance that is hard to keep up with.

We highly recommend the "Nest" not only for it's location, fantastic staff, cleanliness, but also for it great value.

Room Tip: For best sunsets views from a unit the Phase 1 Ocean front units are recommended

We have been to many places with many beaches but Meads Bay has to one of the most beautiful places we have ever been to. Turtles Nest is perfect with its location directly on the beach. You are literally one of a handful of people on this beautiful beach. There are so many restaurants within walking distance from the Nest. The people and staff at Turtles Nest are very helpful and friendly. We had an oceanfront 1BR with a pull out couch and it was very spacious. If you want to stay on a quiet secluded beach this is the place. And the restaurants are amazing. You can't go wrong staying at this beautiful resort on this beautiful beach.
