We had booked the Fountain Resort for 3 nights and had a very bad experience and left to go to Viceroy. Fountain had 4 persons in room next to us including a screaming child, mother in law and couple. Max allowed in studio 3 persons. We were in 1 bedroom unit and could hear everything.

The Viceroy reservation manager was so gracious to us. She gave us a wonderful room and it was everything expected and more. Very expensive but worth it!!

Great service, room, property, pools, beaches. we had a rental car but No reason to leave. But be prepared to have lots of $$.

Room Tip: 1 bedroom units near beach are amazing!

Viceroy Anguila is a remarkable property with a staff that all are kind, genuine and extremely hard working. The grounds are beautiful. The facilities (spa, fitness center, restaurants) are very good. The thing that sets the Viceroy apart from every other property I've ever stayed at (Turks and Caicos, Barbados, Cayman, etc.) is the dedication of the staff. They are driven to ensure that you have everything that you need. We were there a week for our wedding and honeymoon and everything was in a word, perfect: service, commitment to detail, etc. The food was very good and Meads Bay has to be on the Bucket List to see ... the water, sand and atmosphere are all beyond description. The staff, everyone from Nigel to Rosina to Kevin, Dhupi, Maiko, Leon the Restaurant Manager, John .... everyone goes out of their way to make sure that every moment is memorable and accounted for.
I've read some reviews regarding that the service is slow. I've thought about this a great deal and upon closer examination, it may be for some but it was always worth the wait. There is a genuine commitment and drive from everyone at the Viceroy to ensure that every aspect of your stay is right and if it isn't, they immediately go out of their way to make it right.
Viceroy is very close to several excellent restaurants and the taxis are prompt and readily available. We rented a jeep for our week there and Viceroy Anguilla ensured that everything was in order both for pickup and return of the vehicle. They arranged transportation from SXM airport at St Maarten, we were greeted by a Viceroy Rep in the lobby of the airport and the transportation was flawless.
Every element, detail, need and expectation was met and surpassed by Viceroy Anguilla. It is 35 acres of paradise. I cannot recommend it enough, it is a very special place with a team that is driven to ensure that everything is right with your stay and they do it with a genuine kindness, respect and commitment that is refreshing and inspiring.

Room Tip: Room 317 and the rooms in that area are amazing!!!

We just got back from a family vacation (arrived mid-April 2014). The property was outstanding and probably the most beautiful resort I have been lucky to stay in. The beaches are perfection and the pools are stunning. The sunset lounge and bamboo bar were also very lovely. The layout of the resort was impressive and every square inch of the property was gorgeous and cared for. It was big, but didn't feel imposing. Clearly no expense was spared in the design of this place. I also found the resort to be very quiet and calm at night. There were some movie nights for the kids, but they ended early. I suppose we lucked out that a wedding was not taking place during our week's stay. Some other reviewers have commented that the property does not aesthetically match the island. I'm not sure I understand this because the resort website is very clear with its cool aesthetic. Needless to say, we were very pleased with the design and vibe of the Viceroy.

Our 2 bedroom was beautiful and spacious. Of note, we were not upgraded.
It's always a bummer to not get upgraded after reading numerous reviews from people that scored one (and I even shyly asked about it after the extension was not made upon checking in!) I'm shameless :) The ladies at the front desk said that they would check into it, but I never heard back from them. Alas...

The food and drinks were amazing, but expensive. Definitely try the Ginger Collins. It was beyond.

The only downsides (aside from the disappointment that we weren't upgraded when staff kept telling me that it was a fairly slow time!) involved service at times. I was pretty blown away by the length of time it took to get drinks and food (particularly at the Sunset Lounge). I'm not sure if the employees were overworked or confused.. or both? Waiting 45+ minutes for cocktails is a little insane. At first, it's amusing because you're on vacation on an exotic island. But then it gets old very quickly. You could see exasperated faces all over the resort as people were waiting for their food, drinks, and bills. The service at Coba for dinner also felt like service I would expect at Denny's. Wowza. Finally, there was this strange table-holding dynamic. Tables at the Sunset Lounge and by the windows at breakfast (Coba) were held for certain families for extended periods of time. The tables were empty for long periods, but staff wouldn't let other individuals sit there. It was annoying and it shouldn't happen at a resort like this because it make other guests feel like they were not as special.

Having shared the negatives, I want to add that I would absolutely return to this resort and this island. It was perfect for families, but it didn't feel like a Disney resort. I also respected that they tried to keep the kiddos away from the adult infinity pool (even though we wanted to spend more time there...!)

It was an incredible vacation and I miss it already....

Our sincere appreciation for your glowing review about the resort and island. Anguilla is quite special and the resort was designed to showcase the natural beauty of the Caribbean waters and green foliage.
I'm sorry you were disappointed that we were not able to upgrade you and I do apologize for the slow service you experienced. That is certainly not the way we want to operate and every guest is indeed very important. I will look into the reservation of tables and see that this is not a normal practice.
Thank you again for taking the time to share your review.
We do look forward to welcoming you back in the future!

My wife and I read a plethora of reviews from many people concerning many resorts we were considerning traveling to as we celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. We went with a group as part of a renewal of vows cerimony and had a fantastic time. Let me share a few tips with you to make sure you understand how to make sure the trip you take is as awesome and memorable as ours was. First, the ferry ride over and back from St. Martin, rather you take public or set it up throgh Viceroy is the worst part of the trip. It is completely disorganized and there is no sense of urgency, but you must keep in mind that this is their culture and these people do not work for Viceroy. Second, if you are always in a hurry, there is not a resort in the Carribean that will meet your needs. Much like Europe, they believe a meal is a time for conversation, relationships, overall enjoyment, and should not be rushed. Finally, this is not an island for shopping, if that is what you are after, simply take a day trip to St. Martin or St. Barths.
Our stay was simply amazing! We stayed in a beach front four room Villa and were there for 8 days. It was truly the relaxing, romantic getaway we were looking for. We had a butler and maid service at the Villa that was beyond exceptional. Travis and Colin, the butlers, were incredible and helped us with anything and everything we asked. We had a couple of different maids, but Lorna was by far the best.
The food, from breakfast to dinner was also amazing. We ate at all of the restaraunts on the property as well had a couple of meals prepared at our Villa. All were top notch.
We also went on a snorkeling, horse ride, dolphin excursions, and got massages. Once again, all set up through resort and all were wonderful.
If you are looking for a resort to get away from the rat race, be amazed by unbelievable beach and ocean views, eat like royalty, and experience an amazing culture, then this is the place for you!!

Room Tip: Definitely would choose beach front location

Congratulations on your 20th anniversary and thank you so much for sharing this wonderful milestone with us!

We're so happy you enjoyed your Villa and I will certainly pass your praise along to Travis, Colin and Lorna.

I'm sure the other travelers will appreciate your travel tips, especially the one about shopping. While we do have a lovely Boutique at the resort, Anguilla is not a destination for those who love high fashion shopping. (But the islands are just a quick boat ride away!)

Thank you again for staying with us. We hope you'll return for many more anniversary celebrations.

My husband and I stayed at the Viceroy in Anguilla for our anniversairy. We enjoyed it a lot, it was the perfect location to celebrate something special. Start the day with a healthy breakfast, spend the day on the beach, get pampered at the SPA and finaly the best view on the sunset with a good cocktail at sunset lounge. We were lucky to stay in the week where all the caribean chefs from the Island had the annual event. What a fun and yumm event. We highly recomend this resort because it give's you all you need to relax.

Room Tip: it depends on the size of the party who travels - we had the 1 bedroom studio

My wife and I are big fans of the Caribbean Islands and had wanted to visit Anguilla for sometime - the deciding factor in choosing the Viceroy was the Rooftop Studio which we felt was unique in comparison to similar hotels and resorts across the Caribbean.

We were extremely disappointed with our stay. Specific problems we had were primarily noise related: We arrived late on a Sunday evening and wanted to get an early night (10pm-ish) because of the travel. Opening the doors to our room in the hope of hearing the sounds of the sea and the warm air (we are in the Caribbean, right?!), the dominating sound was from the bar where a movie was playing at high volume. When we told the staff on reception, they said there was nothing they could do, and that they couldn't guarantee that there wouldn't be similar noise on other nights. The movie carried on past 11.30pm.

We moved the following day to a lower standard of room (room 103 is an excellent room, by the way - and the sound of the surf breaking on the rocks was amazing) and had a similar problem with noise the following Saturday - one of the restaurants had been booked for a wedding reception and the guests had the music so loud that even with all of the windows closed, the music from the wedding was still very audible past midnight. Having two nights sleep disrupted by noise wasn't great although we were offered a complimentary massage to make up for the sleep disruption which was kind.

More generally, whilst a beautiful hotel, the asthetics have stripped away any feeling of being in the West Indies - you feel like you could anywhere in the world. Maybe that's OK... but the West Indies are such a unique collection of islands, that it was disappointing that there were no efforts to acknowledge their culture at all (no steel drums, calypso, rum punches, fried plantain etc, etc!) The rooms we stayed in / visited (we were shown a choise of two different rooms to replace the rooftop studio) whilst immaculate were very dark - the balcony area does not get much sunlight and there is poor light penetration into the room. Although the hotel advertises 5 (?) restaurants, generally only one or a maximum of two are open at any one time which significantly limits choice, particularly for dinner, and particularly if you have dietary restrictions. Fortunately, there were a couple of excellent restaurants either end of the beach...

Whilst we stayed at the hotel, there was a wedding and two different sets of conference parties - the result was overcrowding and a wait for tables for up to 20 minutes at breakfast and lunch (annoying, given the limited choice of restaurant) and the atmosphere of being at a work conference when on the beach, in the bar or wandering around the hotel... not great, when the objective was to try to get away from work to relax.

The staff in general were friendly and helpful (particularly the staff on the beach and the concierge) - we were given a choice of rooms when leaving the rooftop studio and were shown around the rooms by a friendly staff member. The beach on Meads Bay is fantastic although the sea can be rough as it is an Atlantic coastline.

In general, the experience was very disappointing for the price we paid when compared to other similar resorts we've stayed in both in the Caribbean and worldwide - I guess it would be an amazing place to stay if you were on a conference and someone else was paying... but definitely not worth spending £1k per night if you are looking for relaxation, tranquility and a rest. Such a shame...

Room Tip: Try to ask for a room directly overhanging the sea, rather than one with a sea / garden view.

The West Indies is indeed a unique collection of islands and Viceroy Anguilla provides a more contemporary approach to decor and atmosphere.
