“What a fantastic place to stay”
Reviewed 15 February 2014

Judith and John Verity run the Mango Beach Inn and what a great place to stay. The couple themselves and their staff are brilliant and we couldn't fault them. The room we stayed in (the Garden Room) was light and airy and had fly screens on the windows. The bed had a mosquito nets on and the facilities in the bedroom were excellent. The proprietors and staff would do anything to make the stay enjoyable and the breakfast was great with local bread and excellent coffee (from someone who likes their coffee) and beautiful fruit (Try the passion fruit) The view from the Breakfast/communal guest room across Marigot bay is brilliant and the atmosphere and ambience is faultless. We would recommend the Ridge Walk from the Mango Beach (if you are up for a bit of a climb) for views across the bay. We can't think that there could be a better place to stay in Marigot bay (or even St Lucia). We would recommend a hire car (as Judith did to us) for a more enjoyable stay on the Island.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Garden room and we couldn't have asked for a better room. The only noise was t...

Some more very active guests who tried everything and were seasoned travellers. They got the most out of Marigot and used it as a base for exploring our beautiful island coast to coast.
Thanks to both of you for this review!

For those who appreciate off-the-beaten path stay, I highly recommend the Mango Beach Inn. A converted carriage house, staying with John and Judith Verity combines the intimacy of being in their home (John, hands-down, made the best rum punch on the Island, and we sampled many) with the privacy of more conventional accommodations. We spent most of our time on the second floor portico where we enjoyed a morning breakfast spread that was both healthful and delicious and in the evening served as our family room for games of cards and dominoes or simply relaxing with a good book. Unexpected and amazing was the fact that the large glass doors of the room could be kept open to bring in all of the wonderful smells of the Bay with nary a bug in sight. Judith and John were extraordinarily helpful in helping us plan our trip well in advance. The Inn also maintains an excellent working relationship with the business manager at the adjacent larger resort, Oasis, and their business manager, Nadjela, was superb in organizing several expeditions for us. Finally, the Mango Beach Inn shares its shores with the Rainforest Restaurant--an absolutely exceptional place to dine.

These guests really made the most of the Marigot location. Being on the ‘quiet’ side of the bay and accessible by ferry doesn’t mean that Mango Beach is isolated. Rainforest Hideaway (one of the top ten fine dining restaurants in the Caribbean is on our dock and there are 8 other bars and restaurants less than five minutes away. And the ferry runs 24 hours a day. We love to host family reunions and get togethers and our beautiful Harbour room is perfect for socializing at any time of day but particularly beautiful at night.

My wife and I occupied the Sunshine Room for one week at Mango Beach Inn, a comfortable, airy room very near the entrance to the Inn. From our arrival until our departure, our hospitable hosts Judith and John did everything to make our stay pleasant. Every request was handled promptly and satisfactorily. Judith provided a wealth of information about the Inn, places to visit, things to do. We loved the unique location overlooking Marigot Bay. Breakfast in the large Harbour Room was special both for the meal and the view. The WiFi connection pleased me. We were extremely pleased with our stay.

Room Tip: The Sunshine Room doesn't have A/C, but two ceiling fans kept us comfortable in late January and...

Guests come to Mango Beach to experience the peace, beauty and wonderful harbor views but everybody nowadays wants to stay in touch. The free Wifi is a must and much appreciated by all our guests. Having said that, if you really want to get away from it all, you can just switch off!

Stayed for 9 days in December, made very welcome by the owners Judith and John Verity
Secluded 5 bedroomed boutique hotel in a beautiful setting just a 2 minute ferry crossing across Marigot Bay.

We had the Blue Bamboo room with private garden and view across the bay
Only a 2 minute stroll along the boardwalk to the beach where there were beach bars, gift stalls and water sports.

Breakfasts were continental with a good choice of cereals, yogurts, fruit, breads and home made preserves, if you wanted a cooked breakfast or ham and cheese etc. they could be ordered and
he staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Judith and John were very knowledgeable and could arrange all types of trips sailing, snorkelling beaches etc. either by water taxi or road.

The only downside was the weather, we had an awful lot of rain which did limit the things we could do. We have been to the West Indies several times at this time of year and it is usually a good time to go. But freak weather is occurring all over the world.

Never the less this would not stop us returning.

The 'Rainforest Hideaway' restaurant is just below the hotel and also owned by them and is definitely worth a visit if you enjoy fine dining. We had a wonderful dinner, certainly the best on the bay.

We had a few weeks of strangely unseasonal weather around the Christmas period and although we do all we can to keep the standards up at Mango Beach inn, we can't control the weather. We do want to complement all of our guests however, especially the couple who wrote this review - they just went out and did all the things they planned to do anyway and at least the rain was warm ... the word for rain in Creole is 'Lapli' which means both 'rain' and 'blessings'. Usually the evenings were clear and bright with starry skies and a light breeze and of course our gardens were very green and covered in blossoms.

Future guests, please note We are now getting more typical seasonal weather (breezy with lots of sunshine, and dry days which are wonderful for sunbathing before returning to colder climates.

Our stay at Mango Beach Inn was exactly what we needed and what we expected, only better.  Highly recommended.

We stayed for five nights, immediately after Christmas; we were six people in one extended family.

First of all, the location could not be better.  Marigot Bay is every bit as beautiful as they say, and Mango Beach Inn is wonderfully located across from the "town," accessed by a ramshackle and brightly colored ferry.  The journey is only a few minutes and the ferry driver picks up passengers every few minutes, or simply when you wave from the dock. It's a great introduction to the feel of the place, zigzagging between the millionaires' yachts on your tinpot, ancient ferry.

Judith and John are great hosts, efficient and helpful (particularly in terms of arranging outings), but also happy to chat. They can give you useful - and entertaining - insights on the bay, its residents, and its history.

Rooms are not huge, but adequate and well maintained.  We had a fabulous view of the bay from a door onto our little patio; in the mornings, we would open the door and lie in bed for a while, watching. We had a hummingbird most mornings outside our bedroom window, and a little sparrow-like bird who knew no fear on our patio, waiting patiently for any crumbs.  We especially appreciated the beach bags in each room, with two folded towels inside.

The Harbor room is the excellent breakfast and general lounge-about room, with wonderful views across the bay.  We spent hours there, reading, playing board games with other guests, and catching up (on the cold weather at home) on our iPads. There is an honesty bar in the room which also helps while away the time.

We went on a snorkeling trip to nearby Anse Cochon with the excellent Cornelius and his "Smooth Operator"; we went whalewatching (no whales, but plenty of dolphins and false killer whales); we swam at the nearby beach and at the inn's pool; and we just loafed around.  The steep nature trail is for the brave.

Complaints? None worth mentioning - we really enjoyed our stay, and still yearn for the Inn.

Room Tip: try for the rooms with the patios.

At Mango Beach we love to host family groups - the rooms are spread out so family members can have time out as well as family time in the Harbour Room lounge, on the barbeque deck by the pool and visiting each others patios. This particular family get together was a very happy one which makes being an innkeeper feel like fun and we enjoy having guests who are interested in Marigot and want to know more about the history and the stories and the people who live in this fascinating waterside village.

We were made to feel welcome even before we arrived by Judith's helpful advice, and this continued during our three night stay. Both Judith and John and their staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. We had Christmas Eve dinner at their Rainforest Hideaway restaurant which was superb despite the staff having to contend with a tropical rainstorm providing a small river for them to wade through to serve us.
The location is charming and perfect for a few days though if you spend longer and like beaches be prepared to take a water or road taxi elsewhere as the beach here is small. However we did some good kayaking in the bay and around to adjacent deserted coves. Altogether it was a great start to our visit to St Lucia.

These gracious guests arrived in St Lucia not expecting a totally out of season tropical downpour and coped very well! It was a dramatic Christmas Eve! The great thing about our location is that although our beach is small we are just halfway down the Caribbean coastline with easy access north and south. There are a few deserted little beaches which can be reached quickly by boat and the little cove due south of us (Trou Vollant) is just a ten minute walk. The kind of families who like to be active and explore usually love to stay in Marigot - kayaking, walking, sailing and snorkelling and a couple of miles south is our amazing St Lucian Marine Park. There's even a dive company (Dive Fair Helen) right here in the bay which does not just diving but snorkelling and kayak tours.

We stayed for two weeks in this delightful B&B in a traditional 'colonial' style home in beautiful Marigot Bay. For the first few days we had one of the smaller rooms without a patio, but this was no problem, as we were out for much of the time, and when we returned it was nice to take a dip in the small pool then relax in or out of the sun on the pool deck or sit in the huge lounge area next our room taking in the stunning views of the bay. Breakfast, including local fresh fruit and home made bread and granola, was served in this lovely airy lounge and we could spend as much time as we liked there, which we often did to catch up on emails, and to use their well-stocked 'honesty' bar. When we were able we moved into one of the more expensive 'patio' rooms. This was quite timely, as we rushed about so much for the first few days, culminating in the ascent of Gros Piton, that we were quite ready to just flop for a day or two, and we spent a lot of time on our patio, even bringing in bread from the bakery just over the Bay and having a lunch of bread and cheese at our outside table, saving a bit on eating out. It was also possible to order the food to have a barbecue on the pool deck, which we did on a couple of evenings.
The Inn is on the opposite side of the Bay to the road access, but there is a free small ferry to take you across or to one of the restaurants around the bay. The small beach is on the same side as the Inn, just a short walk through the mangroves on a board walk. This is a conservation area, with the largest area of mangroves on the west of the island. The owners, Judith and John Verity are keen on conserving the natural beauty of St Lucia, which is being sadly neglected in some other areas. They have created a nature trail from their garden up to the summit of the ridge behind the house, which rewards you with splendid views from the top, but be warned, it is not for the unfit!
John and Judith have lived in St Lucia for many years, having first come as tourists and fallen in love with Marigot Bay, so they are very knowledgeable about places to go and things to do. They have an arrangement with the tourist office in Oasis holiday village nearby, where we went to organise car hire and some outings, such a taxi share to the Fish Friday at Anse la Raye. We also negotiated a deal with the local sailing and kayak hire place to use their boats whenever we wanted, which we did almost every day, sometimes taking a boat out for most of the day and sailing to a little beach south of Marigot for lunch at the beach-side restaurant. They are always ready with help and advice and, although they run a top class restaurant on site, the award-winning Rainforest Hideaway, they are happy to point you in the direction of alternative eateries. The Rainforest Hideaway is well worth a visit, though, with lovely food and a fantastic, romantic atmosphere.
All-in-all, a wonderful place to stay.

Room Tip: The two more expensive 'patio' rooms are great if you want to spend a lot of time in the B&a...

These guests, like many of our visitors didn't always want to eat out. Mango Beach Inn is a B&B so we don't offer lunch or dinner, but we are very happy for guests to bring in takeaways and make up their own picnics with bread from the bakery opposite and other things, including salad and fruit, from the supermarket. We can provide plates, knives and forks, napkins and whatever else they need. Guests who are not in patio rooms can use the beautiful Harbour Room for lunch or dinner overlooking the bay and also the gazebo by the pool which has tables and chairs. The barbeque is always available for the use of guests. And for guests who want a wonderful dinner without having to take the ferry can eat at Rainforest Hideaway, our waterfront restaurant which is now in the Trip Advisor Caribbean Top Ten fine dining restaurants!
