“Amazing location, wonderful hosts in tropical paradise”
Reviewed 24 May 2011 for a stay in May 2011

My daughter and I spent a week this May at this lovely vacation rental in a beautiful setting overlooking an inlet of Marigot Bay. Our little apartment was perfect for our needs- 2 comfortable bedrooms, a sitting area, small but well-equipped kitchen, and an amazing deck from where you could see and hear the sounds of the Caribbean. Josee and Pierre make sure your visit is both comfortable and relaxing and help to assure you have an opportunity to experience their lovely adopted island. Since we were only renting a car for a couple of days, Pierre met my daughter and I at the airport, allowed us to stop for groceries, treated us to the local beer and delivered us to Villa Pomme d’Amour where Josee greeted us like an old friend. She also made sure we had plenty of food for breakfast(s) and an organic pineapple from their property that was the sweetest pineapple I've ever tasted. That first night we had a chance to settle in and sample her famous rum punch and Pierre insisted on bringing us to and from a local restaurant.

During the week, we did a local kayak tour led by one of the local establishments (Dive Fair Helen), had a private snorkeling tour arranged by our hosts, and rented a car a couple of days to explore. There are several restaurants we could walk, drive (and ferry) to, although we also prepared simple dinners at the villa. And we had plenty of opportunity to relax on the beautiful deck and cool off (it is hot in St Lucia) in the pool.

St Lucia itself is a very pretty island with warm people. It is very green- I regret we did not have time to do more hiking- next time. The snorkeling is quite good at certain locations, including the little bay where the villa is located. There is plenty of natural beauty to see and explore, good places to eat, and their very own Jazz Festival.

We were so glad that we opted for this unique and picturesque location and never regretted for a second that we avoided the more touristy spots. The property is classy without being pretentious. A stay at Villa Pomme d’Amour will assure that you will have a lasting memory of this beautiful island.

From the moment Pierre met us at the airport we were treated not only as valued guests, but as old friends! Along the gorgeous drive from the airport to Marigot Bay, he stopped the car at a stunning viewpoint and bought us a beer. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly, with a big pitcher of delicious rum punch and a basket of fruit, plenty of food in the fridge for the first morning or two of breakfast, smiles and plenty of helpful information. In all of our travels, Pierre and Josee are by far the nicest, friendliest, and most helpful hosts we have ever encountered. When you are planning your excursions, be sure to ask their opinion as they have a more realistic take on things than the guidebooks.

We rented the one-bedroom unit for 2 weeks. The view from the veranda (and indeed inside the kitchen, bedroom, and living room) is gorgeous, looking across gardens and a forested ravine to a lovely rocky cove, with the blue Caribbean in plain view. (The cove is an easy 5 minute walk down a path, and a somewhat harder 5-6 minute walk back up the hill.)
Marigot Bay has several excellent restaurants, a lovely little beach, and easy access to everything via little ferries that run continuously.
To get the most out of your visit, you will need a car at Villa Pomme d'Amour. Josee and Pierre have a friend who rents 4X4 vehicles (with A/C and automatic transmission) only to their guests. Ours was an older vehicle but maintained in good running condition, and at a very competitive rate.
Our two weeks was marred only by a very unusual spell of rain, rain, rain, which brought extra mosquitoes. We were so thankful for a lovely, quiet, and peaceful place where we could rest and read, and of course swim, while it was raining outside. (Do bring plenty of insect repellent; the local stores sell American brands such as Deep Woods Off but they are very expensive. We used the Deep Woods sachets and they were effective, without the greasy feeling of a spray, but we didn't bring enough of them along. Take twice what you think you'll need!) Use the mosquito net at night; it allows you to drift off to sleep without worrying about mosquitoes.
Our favorite places to buy food were the Castries market, roadside stands, and of course the Super J which is conveniently located nearby and stocks pretty much everything you would need at reasonable prices. If you are driving south, be sure to gas up at the Texaco next to the Super J, because you may not find another gas station until Vieux Fort, or possibly Laborie.
This is a property for people who want to be independent, not surrounded by hordes of noisy tourists. We loved the seclusion and beautiful view.
