Description: The Riva Azzurra Restaurant is located in a seaside resort in Sardinia, near the Costa Smeralda, precisely in Cannigione. The restaurant serves a fine Sardinian cuisine, both fish-based and meat-based cuisine. You can also try several vegetarian meals and enjoy a wide variety of pizza cooked in a wood-burning oven. Starting from June every day the restaurant will also offer buffet and pizza for lunch. The restaurant has a large indoor lounge and a beautiful outdoor court to enjoy the full view of the sea in the summer. Perfect for romantic dinners, lunches or dinners, with friends and family, including children. The restaurant is run on a family level and the staff are polite and prepared, ready to welcome and pamper their customers to make them feel at home. Come and visit us, we will be happy to host you too!

First night in the town we decided to go to this restaurant as it had really good reviews for cheap and cheerful pizza and pasta. We ordered a pizza and a spaghetti dish. The pizza arrived within 2-3 minutes. The spaghetti arrived 25 minutes after that despite us very politely asking what was going on. By that time my husband had polished off his pizza. No explanation from the waiting staff, no apology or free coffee/gesture. Have horrible feeling they had the pizza already (maybe made in error for others?) but had to make the spaghetti dish from scratch. All looked a bit amateur. A real pity as the food was fine, but they just didn’t seem to care as the restaurant was busy regardless.

They charged us 20 euros for a bad fish and in the letter it said that it costs 6 euros. The response of the waiter when asking about the price difference has been very aggressive and very uncomfortable.
Clearly, we will not go back and we will not recommend it.

Simply put we have yet to have had a bad course let alone a meal here, every visit has been excellent - be that for a light lunch or a more extensive meal. Whilst writing about our experience this summer, our visits here go back as far as 2005, and so the opening line above.

Our efforts to speak Italian and at the same time to learn the Sardinian phrase as well appear to be appreciated, and unlike some of the previous reviews the staff have all bent over backwards to look after us, whatever the cost of our meal. Unfortunately we have witnessed how rude a proportion of visitors from north of the Italian Alps including beyond The Channel can be, and put in context, we have never witnessed dissatisfaction from Italian customers. On Sunday nights it is advisable to book or be flexible as this restaurant is packed with local families.

Accepting that meal times can be a leisurely affair, trying to speak the language (and as a dyslexic reading any phrase is doubly difficult for me!), appreciating that local co-operative produced wine is an instant drinking wine and not a cellered wine, and you'll find you are looked after and your menu choices, no matter how cheap, are catered for - with a smile.

We have visited Cannigione multiple times over the past thirteen years, and in all that time this restaurant has always served fantastic pizzas, great salads, wonderful pasta, and a Sardinian traditional feast that has always been extremely generous.

When having the traditional Sardinian meal this year we did wonder if there would be shortcuts made as we hadn't visited for a number of years. We needn't have worried - pacing yourself was still the name of the game, and the waiter looking after us knew when we needed breathers! And, the bill - less than the equivalent at a pub in our village, for a far better meal and wine than in the UK...

Recommending something from the menu is difficult, as our experience has always been good. So to the nub of my review - I will eat and "like" the occasional salad, but can take or leave them. Here, I actively ordered a different salad for my lunch several times, and noticed that "boring" lettuce wasn't bitter but had taste (UK supermarkets take note please!), the tomatoes had flavour and were not the bland sphere shaped things we have in the UK, the tuna (when had) was flavoursome and not salty...in short, I wanted their salad rather than just ate it.

We found the house wine served in a carafe suited the atmosphere perfectly - a simple wine to drink, and which suited the meals perfectly. The bottled wines are more expensive and some of them very expensive - but we found the house wine more than held it's own.

We cannot wait to return.

Staying at he Riva Azzurra, accommodation great, location great. However just come back from the restaurant as was very disappointed. The waiter clearly thought that because we were British he could seat us wherever. He then conitued to shower the other (non British customers) with attention. I finally had to go to the till and ask for the bill. Our waiter then appeared and spoke to us in a most patronising manner. Brita beware, insist on a good table and don't sit in Alfrindos section.

We have eaten there twice and the food was very good both times. Especially the filet from the grill was fantastic! The service was intrusive, unfriendly and chaotic.
