The staff couldnt do enough for you and even help arranging transfers to parts of the island you may need pick up from after a meal in town. Superb!

Room Tip: we stayed in 405, 406 & 401, all with great see views

The Villa del Golfo is a very good hotel and spa. The rooms are spacious, private villas haveh their own pools and the views of the bay are magnificent from each and every suite. Best of all, their restaurant is well respected and very capable.

This relais even offers its guests the use of the owner's 60-foot sloop with captain and first mate. We sailed the Madalenna Islands aboard this vessel and enjoyed the company of its crew, the magificent lunch they prepared and very relaxing day on the crystal clear cobalt blue waters of the region.

We rented the Villa le Saline, a beautifully converted Sardinian farmhouse with private pool, breathtaking views of the bay and within walking distance of a quiet sandy beach. Magnificent!

The villa and relais are ideally located for trips throughout the northeast of Sardinia, day trips to Corsica and the Porto Cervo region - about as long as I would like to stay at the latter. The grounds are awash with fragrant blooming flowers and the swimming pool is extrodinary - and adjacent to the bar! Bravo!!

If you're planning a trip to Sardinia's northeast, I would highly recommend this relais. You can avoid the crowds of the overly popular resort areas and have a vacation to remember.

Room Tip: Be sure to use the relais's yacht for a memorable trip through the Madalenna Islands!

Lovely hotel, superb restaurant and friendly staff. Could not have been better save for the inclement weather. It blew a gale during the first few days of our stay during which we took the yacht trip organised through the hotel. The previous day's sailing had been cancelled fortunately for the people booked on it. We had to endure an 8 hour white knuckle sail through choppy seas during most of which we were hanging on for grim death. Upon arrival at the "secluded bay" we encountered a visiting colony of Russians, discarded nappies and other unpleasant detritus. The journey back was slightly more comfortable but having paid 600 euros, we felt that the experience did not match the description of the brochure " you will discover that sailing is a comfortable pleasure" - it was not! The brochure also states " feel the breeze" - we certainly did. Perhaps economics won over safety and comfort over passengers. Our group was fit and able. I shudder to think what would have happened to an older party. The overall experience was a disappointment and a sorry reflection on the hotel which I cannot fault.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms seemed to have sea views and the layout of the hotel was excellent. It was more li...

Have just spent one week in this lovely hotel.
The location is superb with fabulous veiws and it's within easy walking access to the town/village of Cannigione and the small beaches.

The facilities are very good with a good health/spa, centre a lovely pool & outside bar area.
The reception / restaurant / bar staff were very helpful & attentive.

Nothing in this world is perfect and my main critiscism (as was other guests) was the hotels bar & restaurant prices. However do not let this put you off as the prices in the town were reasonable.

Would definately go back.

Room Tip: They all seem to be deluxe rooms with sea veiws & balconies - however because the hotel/ rooms a...

Sad to leave this morning after 4 nights at this very agreeable hotel. As long as you have a car for trips around the area, situation is ideal. There are local restaurants and bars within walking distance- cafe Linus good pizzas.
Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast great choice. Pool and bar area amazing views across the gulf to Baja Sardinia.
Highlight was our day out on Bon Aria to Madalenna with Andrew and Luca- very professional, cracking trip and sumptuous lunch at Budelli on the boat.
We had bonus upgrade to a suite with private garden and pool, but even without that, I'd rate it excellent. One fly in the ointment was a disappointing dinner in Miraluna restaurant- kitchen v slow to the point of exasperation, but Marco the maitre'd wiped the bill appropriately with no argument.
Go, stay, not sure about dinner though.

This hotel has a lot of good features.

We arrived mid-evening and were offered a welcome drink at the bar, where the brightly-lit pool with the sea and mountains beyond was spectacular. Indeed the views from the bar, restaurant and pool are stunning, and the hotel itself blends very well into the hillside. It would seem that criticisms on here of 'muzak' in the public areas have been taken on board, as this was very occasional.

Our room was convenient to the main complex and very quiet at night (apart from on the Saturday when loud music was playing (from a building nearby?) until 1 am. Towels were changed twice a day, the bathroom was well-stocked, and the bed was large and comfortable.

But nowhere is perfect and nor was this. Firstly, we had been led to believe under-6s were not allowed. Not so! There were only a few on any given day, but one bawled from 8-9pm during the 'romantic' evening meal, managing to often drown out the singer, and the next night was being wheeled into the restaurant at 9pm (though this time we had fortunately eaten elsewhere). Another ran round the lounge after breakfast each day, whilst his parents ignored him and the rest of us were trying to check e-mails etc. The whole ambience of a hotel, especially a quiet hotel like this one, can be totally changed by just one or two noisy or badly-behaved kids. (What was rather galling was that just down the road was a family-friendly hotel with lots of facilities for children.)

Wi-fi was frustratingly only available in the lounge. Our 'minibar' fridge proved impossible to switch on, and only had a few unchilled soft drinks in it anyway. There were no glasses in our room (apart from two wine glasses), only very flimsy plastic tumblers, which were not replaced after our first couple of days. You expect better than this in an expensive hotel!

Room service was very limited and at silly prices, and snacks were served (both at the bar and to the room) only until 6.30pm; a shame if you arrive later on. Local info was available from the concierge at set times, but both the ones I saw seemed to have a very limited knowledge of the area and had certainly never been on a local bus.

On the day of check-out, we found luggage could only be left in an open room with no security whatsoever, and there were no facilities for changing clothes, sorting out your case etc if your departure was later on in the day.

But despite all these caveats we enjoyed our stay here and would recommend the hotel which overall and on balance was fine, hence the 4-star rating I have given it.

Room Tip: We had a suite without pool, which turned out to be more convenient to the main complex than the mor...
