“Wonderful break”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

A near perfect hotel with amazing sea views and beautiful scenery. The staff were friendly and accommodating, especially the bar and restaurant waiters. And the reception staff very helpful – we booked a car through them and also arranged boat hire (highly recommended).

We ate at a restaurant recommended by the hotel called La Colti who also arranged travel (a 15 min drive), the atmosphere, setting and food were amazing. The local beaches were busy and not as idyllic as we had hoped so we hired a car and managed to find some of the most beautiful beaches and views on the island as well as travel to La Maddalena and Caprera Island which were both stunning.

The pool area was great, again, beautiful views and very chilled out although I would perhaps recommend a few more sunbeds, there were occasions when we had to sit on the lounge chairs as no beds were available and maybe a change in the music that was played - quite an odd selection. The outdoor Jacuzzi is also a really good idea and surprisingly was rarely used.

My only criticism of the hotel would be the lunch and dinner menus. Very over priced for what you get (a simple salad was around 14 euro), the lunch snacks are simple and limited and the dinner menu wasn’t very adventurous. The breakfast on the other hand was great with lots of choice.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 509 - Quite a walk from the pool area and reception but very peaceful and an amazi...

Sadly just about to leave this wonderful hotel having enjoyed 10 excellent days here. This was my first time on the Costa Smerelda but it won't be the last.

The hotel has excellent amenities, very good food and extremely helpful & friendly staff. The location is also perfect with a commanding view out over the bay. I can highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is in a brilliant location -- close enough to town for restaurants, bars, supermarkets, etc. but far enough away to be peaceful.

The seaview from many of the rooms is breathtaking to wake-up to and the rooms themselves are adequately sized with all basic amenities. The majority of the staff, especially the bar and restaurant staff, are especially friendly but all of the cleaners and some of the receptionists struggle to communicate in English which makes it problematic at a hotel geared towards international guests...

The restaurant was a bit of a disappointment. Breakfast was good in that it had a healthy selection of fresh fruit, breads, cereals, etc. but the lunches were pretty poor and the dinners are vastly overpriced for what you get. The 'Sardinian Ploughman's' sandwich was full of large lumps of bone and the dinner portions are minute!

The music! One of the MOST annoying parts of this hotel is the incessant music that's blasted out of the speakers from about 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. The CD player is on its last legs and so it often skips or gets stuck meaning that you end up with a cacophony of noise at full volume. The CDs are often on loop so, when sunbathing at the pool for a few hours, you are slowly driven crazy by the likes of Shakira, wailing men and Italian 'lounge' music.

There is absolutely no life at this hotel. Save for the World Cup matches and one lone musical duo during our entire stay it was dead. Some entertainment other than the psychosis-inducing CD player would have been good.

The outdoor swimming pool is awkwardly-shaped, cold and shallow. The training pool in the gym is very tired whilst the actual gym is full of broken equipment whilst endlessly playing Pan-Asian music. The steam room was out of order and the jacuzzi had a tendency to shut down.

The room we stayed in was on the far end of a terrace of sea-view rooms which meant that we were woken every night by the gales that pounded every conceivable branch into the corrugated-iron roof. The cleaners sometimes forgot to replace tissues and toilet paper and they also like to play games in hiding the bin somewhere in your room -- it's different every time! Not to mention the fact that they sometimes don't clean your room until gone 2 p.m.

Overall a nice hotel but certainly not a luxury resort.

We stayed here (Room 511) for a week in July 2014. It's a nice hotel, very casual and relaxing. The food on site was okay, but they also own an amazing gastro tourismo restaurant called Colti that was phenomenal (~10 minute drive). The rooms are very simple and ours had a fantastic view from the balcony.

The gym is well equipped and spacious, but the spa and indoor pool are pretty run down.

It's not a 5-star luxury hotel, but it's a comfortable, romantic spot on the Costa Smerelda.

The previous reviews, that say how wonderful this hotel is, are so right! The location is great, a little removed from the designer elegance of Porto Cervo but within easy access and frankly more relaxed with many restaurants in the area to choose from. It is also only a short boat ride to the Islands including La Maddalena.
The hotel is laid out like a small traditional village with steps and paths winding to the rooms and suites. We had a luxury suite with a private pool and it was worth the extra money, with large well furnished bedroom and separate sitting room, beautiful bathroom and perfect sea views. The luxury suites are up the hill and there are slopes and stairs, if you have trouble walking there is a buggy service that will take you to and from your room on request, otherwise the walk is good exercise - you may even see one of the tortoises wandering around.
The hotel pool and bar area is very well maintained and ideal location over looking the bay. There is a nice restaurant where breakfast and other meals are served, although lunch is served by the pool area with great salads available. There is a good choice for breakfast, lovely prepared fruits, yogurts, cheese, meats, salad, pastries and cakes, as well as a variety of breads and eggs cooked as you would like (omelettes, fried, scrambled or boiled). You can have breakfast served to you in your room and we found this to be a good option and always on time, of course there is more choice if you have eat in the restaurant.
For evening meals we found the standard of the food to be good and it was well presented. Personally we would have liked a little more variety, and possibly a few dishes of the day added.
All the staff are very helpful, friendly and polite and they want to ensure that your stay is relaxing and problem free, if you don't have what you want then ask, the staff will do all they can to help.
This is a wonderful, quiet hotel with great views, fabulous staff and one we will certainly visit again...honestly one stay is just not enough!

Room Tip: Luxury suites are worth the extra money, very private and quiet.

First of all the good things:-
It is very conveniently situated for access to the Costa Smeralda and the magnificent Archipelago de La Maddalena. The hotel has a breathtaking position overlooking the Golfo di Arzachena with fantastic sea views.
It has spacious and beautifully furnished bedrooms, most of which have superlative sea views with large terraces giving access to the gardens.
It has well appointed bathrooms with complementary bathrobes and slippers. Excellent showers.
It has staff who without exception are friendly and eager to help in any way. Jimmy, the head barman and Luigi in the restaurant are particularly friendly and charming.
Wi-Fi which is free and available in all the bedrooms.
Very efficient and quiet air conditioning in the bedrooms which is a godsend on hot Sardinian summer days and nights.
Excellent bar area which has very comfortable soft chairs and lie out beds for sunbathing.
Beautiful pool with magnificent views of the Gulf.
Good fitness centre containing a Turkish bath although we used neither.
Whole day yacht trips to sample the beautiful bays and coves of this part of Sardinia.
The breakfasts which can be taken in the restaurant with wonderful views.

And now for the not so good:-

There is an expensive and somewhat disappointing restaurant. The portion sizes are often small and the quality of the meat dishes in particular questionable. After trying their steak fillet we thought it a better idea to stick to the fish dishes which proved to be OK but were served luke warm. We found better eating alternatives in and around the town. This is a great pity because the view from the restaurant overlooking the sea is breathtaking and the service is impeccable from a large team of waiters.
In our experience there was a lack of atmosphere in the evenings. Maybe because of the above very few people seem to have dinner here and those that do tend to go straight back to their rooms after eating. There is little encouragement for them to do otherwise. The hotel has a very nice bar by the pool and it is a great shame that more people are not around to enjoy it. On one night there was a singer to entertain guests and this resulted in a better atmosphere. They should do this more often and maybe reduce their bar prices somewhat.
You have to negotiate several steep flights of stairs and various inclines to reach the rooms on the higher levels. Although these stairs and passage ways undoubtedly add to the charm of the place, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone with walking difficulties unless you ask for a room near the swimming pool.
The TV is awful with poor reception and only UK and US news channels available in English.

To summarise and in spite of the negatives, which did not affect our enjoyment in any way, we had a really great holiday in this charming hotel and with a better restaurant it would certainly have got the highest five star rating.

Have just returned from our honeymoon at this beautiful hotel. The setting is magical and the whole area peaceful and tranquil. The staff are professional and extremely helpful. The restaurant setting is lovely and the food out of this world. Lovely swimming pool in a perfect setting. All the rooms are positioned to offer splendid views. Our room had a balcony and a seaview which was amazing. If you are looking for an action packed holiday, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for absolute peace, first class service and a totally relaxing holiday then this is definitely for you!

Room Tip: Pay the extra to have the slightly larger room and balcony with sea view. Worth every penny. Also b...
