Arriving at Villa del Golfo mid-evening, the entrance is very welcoming and from the outset you know that this isn't another of those sterile, soul-less hotels. If that's what you want, go elsewhere! The decor throughout is 'rustic charm', beautifully executed and more reminiscent of a small Sardinian village than a Hotel.

Yes, there are steps to climb to get to the charming 'hotch-potch' of rooms (although there is a lift to the restaurant / pool, and staff will take you to your room in a golf buggy if required). We found everywhere immaculate from the extensive gardens to the rooms and public areas. Staff were so friendly and helpful, but without being 'creepy' if you know what I mean!

Food was very good, if a little expensive, as were the drinks, but no higher than any of the other 'quality' establishments in the area. Suggest ordering house wines and sharing a couple of courses from the menu, and if you're still hungry, order more! Breakfast buffet excellent - lots of local meats & cheeses, fruit, artisan breads, cakes, preserves etc. etc., and nice seating on the terrace / by the pool / inside.

I do object to paying for water in the rooms - it should be free in a 4* Hotel, but you can buy a pack from the local supermarket for a couple of Euros and put it in the mini bar!

We hired the Hotel's electric car for a day at 90 Euros. With petrol at 1.70 Euros a litre, this was a good deal! The Renault Zoe was fantastic and we fell in love with her. Small, but four doors and quick enough for anyone, even up hill. Bonus is that you can leave the air-con switched on while parked for short periods without killing the battery. We drove around 90km and still had half the charge left at the end.

All in all, this place is VERY relaxing, with wonderful staff and comfortable beds / rooms. It's only a 15 minute walk along the coast footpath into Cannigione, where there are plenty of shops, restaurants, supermarkets etc., so if you want to save some money, there are plenty of options (e.g. buy cheese / meats / bread in town & eat in the picnic area under the trees by the decking / beach area, about 100 yards from the hotel).

Room Tip: There are 2-3 rooms near the road at ground floor level. Not a hugely busy road, but rooms higher up will be quieter if sitting out.

We stayed for one week in early June on a bed and breakfast basis in a Senior Suite with a large covered verandah and its own private pool and a sea view which matched up to our expectations
We had intended to eat partly at the hotel and partly at local restaurants but as we were happy with the quality of the food and above all the excellent service by the Maītre d’ ( Luigi ) and his team and the beautiful location of the dining room we ate only at the Hotel - we did take a look at the restaurants in Cannigione but most of them were not well located and not very appealing which was very disappointing
All the staff throughout the hotel provided excellent service - nothing was too much trouble
The downsides of the Hotel were that:-

1. Although the hotel pool was in a beautiful location the water in the pool and in our private pool was very cold - we had expected warmer
2. During our stay the peace and solitude was shattered almost each and every day by the sound of chain saws and mowers working on the Hotel trees and grounds
3. The Senior Suites are situated quite a way on foot up the hillside - it is possible to ask for a member of staff to take you to and from your Suite in a hotel golf buggy but not always practical & even then there were a series of steep steps to negotiate from where the buggy path ended
4. The nearby resort/ harbour of Cannigione was 15 / 20 minutes walk away but was not very pretty or appealing and fell far short of expectations

We stayed at the hotel for a week. It is in a beautiful location with amazing views. The rooms are rustic but beautifully presented. The classic rooms lack coffee/tea facilities which you would think come as standard in the rooms and similarly no irons are available on request. The rooms also lack full sound proofing which is a shame if you would want a lie in or early night.

The breakfast is also lovely with a variety of choice but I was surprised by the amount of cakes and biscuits available.

The service and staff are great at the hotel.

Definitely recommend the boat trip.

The hotel itself is absolutely stunning and we were lucky enough to have a ground floor room close to the pool and restaurant. However, as a large group, the service was fairly hit or miss (forgotten drinks, a long wait for what we ordered etc.) And the costs were very expensive (€6 for a small local beer). The pool area is also fairly small so imagine this can get very crowded in high season. We did not go to the onsite restaurant as it seemed, like the drinks, to be extremely overpriced and there's are many delicious restaurants less that a 10 minute walk away that are far more reasonable. I would recommend the hotel other restaurant La Colti as this was fantastic and free shuttles are provided. Overall the hotel was nice but for the price paid and the 4* categorisation I expected more service.

this hotel have his past... but... they forgot it there. you can see some absence of care, it looks like a tired old handsome guy. still using good clothes but the wrinkles is there.
the room is not exactly big, to have the bags open some rearrangements had to be done.
for the uphill rooms (lots of stairs) the view is amazing, in a nice balcony.
the breakfast is ok, but more then once I got frozen bread.... for diner you better go to somewhere else.
the location demands transport to the centre or other villages around.
the swimming pool area is big and have the same nice view.
the staff is kind and they tried to please us with smile and a attentive services.

Room Tip: up the hill rooms
