This is a beautiful development, with exceedingly helpful friendly staff. Rooms clean, nicely decorated and furnished, good bathrooms tiled with shower, bed comfortable. All with air con which helped in the heat. In week 1 we had a first floor apartment with lovely sea views and also looked over the pool (handy to watch the kids). Balcony nice and shady during the day so not too hot. Lovely breeze through apartment when balcony and back windows open. Second week we had to switch to ground floor studio apartments. A bit cramped with two kids aged 8 and 10 compared to one bed apartment, but worked out fine as table outside apartment to sit and eat and pool right on our doorstep like and extended livingroom. Ground floor apartments were a little dark and lacked the breeze as no back window. Could see the sea when standing up and wandering out to pool area so while not as nice as 1st floor balcony apartment, still very lovely, especially with all the beautiful flowers and wonderful smell of jasmine round the apartment. Had apartments above us both weeks, wasnt bothered by noise the first week as family late risers, second week was a bit noisy as family had young child up early but understandable and fine with earplugs. One or two residents had dogs that they left during the day and could be noisy. I guess it just depends on who you get when you are there. But everyone friendly.
Restaurant and Pizzeria below very handy, good value tasty pizza - had takeaway many nights. Pool area also has ping pong table, table football, trampolines and swings/slide for the littler ones, so lots to keep all entertained. Worried the pool looked small, but seemed to keep the boys entertained. Deep pool 1.6 m deep throughout, but not too far to any side so not too bad from swimmers who dont like being out of depth. Very near town and supermarket/shops only short stroll away. Beach was small and while busy never felt too crowded and not full up or rows and rows of umbrella seats, a few for hire but most space left for DIY beach towlers. The staff lent us a beach umbrella to use while there. Nicer beaches a short drive away if you hire a car, but could easily be happy with what is there. Recommended boat trip to islands. If you do hire a car, recommend eating at the agroturismo san giovani restaurant about 20 mins drive away as recommended by staff. 35 euro per head for a set menu feast of delicious local cooking. Most of the beaches we went to were very crowded it being the middle of August, but there were always places by the pool at Riva Azzurra, and no having to get up at 6 to leave your towel out to reserve a place.
I would go to Sardiian again, but try to avoid mid august as more expensive and crowded, and if I went I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better view, better light, less noise from people above and better ventilation as...

We stayed at Riva Azzurra in late July and were pleased to find that we'd been upgraded to two interconnecting apartments on the second floor, effectively giving us three bedrooms between me and my wife and our 3 children. It was alarmingly hot when we arrived very late in the evening, but the air conditioning was very effective and kept the place cool whenever required. We found the apartments quiet (top floor and no adjacent apartments) with great sea views and a pleasant breeze, also oriented to the north to be shaded during the day but with sun early morning and in the evening.

This was a great base for exploring this part of Sardinia. The pools at the residence are tiny, and although we were surprised out kids didn't tire of them too rapidly (enough families for them to make friends, and always easy to get recliners either in the sun or shade without nefarious towel antics), we found it more rewarding to hit the beach. The local town beach is opposite the residence and is hot (no shade) and busy but with the appeal of pier-diving, and refreshing clear water. We needed to acquire a parasol (€12 from local shops) and a sand-screw to support it against the breeze. After brief exploration we found a fabulous beach at La Piscine (7 minutes' drive north and a 5 minute walk down a track), a pair of sandy beaches with warm, shallow, clear water perfect for bathing and snorkelling around the rocky edges. The right-hand beach is more sandy and becomes shaded by trees after about 3 pm, or we found we had to get there early in the morning to ensure a shady spot. Once there we generally stayed in the water so this wasn't critical.

We did a day cruise around the Maddalena Islands, the absolute highlight, booking from the prominent office in Cannigione at the south end of the main street. We were taken to the most extraordinary beaches we have ever seen amongst eerie granite rock formations. We escaped the crowds and pressed on to find a relatively quiet spot and had a fabulous hour or so looking at fish in the clear water and finding little grooves in the rocks into which to insert ourselves for a few minutes' cool shade.

Other highlights included exploring the weird rock formations at Capo d'Orso and its giant granite bear, the ancient tombs and settlements near Arzachena (La Prisgiona is like Skara Brae but more so) and a few hours' splashy fun at Aquadream near Baja Sardinia. We ate at La Sciumara by the harbour (south end) which was pleasant though not cheap, but tended to eat in, as the kitchen was well-equiped with big fridge and gas hob (though no oven), and the evening views from the apartment delightful. Take-away pizzas are available on-site from the adjacent restaurant.

Altogether a great holiday location, and we found this part of Sardinia a rival or even better alternative to the costly and busy Costa Smerelda.

Room Tip: We went for a top floor apartment which helped us avoid the inevitable sound of scraping wooden furn...

We stayed at Riva Azzura for the first two weeks of July and had a wonderful time. We had a one bedroom appt with sea view which was very comfortable, spacious with a king- sized bed, good lounge/ dining/ kitchen and excellent air-conditioning. We had a large balcony with great sea views and enjoyed watching the yachts going in and out of the marina. The layout of the complex was great with beautiful flowers and shrubs and all the staff were very helpful. There are two small pools which are great for kids or for just cooling off, and the town beach is only 100m away. Riva Azzura has a superb location with very easy walking access to the beach, shops, bars and good restaurants. Cannigione is just the right size - easy to feel at home in, but with lots to do, and a vibrant evening market. A boat trip to the islands, which is a must, leaves from the jetty, and the Costa Smerelda is only 20 mins away, which is gorgeous, if prohibitively expensive. Riva Azzura is only 35 mins away from Olbia airport and certainly ticks all the boxes and we very much hope that we will return.

Room Tip: The best views are from first and second floor.

My husband and I spent a week here in mid September and were highly impressed by the beautiful sea view from our apartment. We were in room 202 which is for 2/4 people on the upper level. The bathroom (no bath but good sized shower) was exceptionally large and spacious as was the bedroom which had loads of hanging/drawer space and plenty of hangers. The living/kitchen area was also spacious with a 2/3 seater bed settee and an easy chair. There is a dining table for 4 people in the lounge area but we tended to use the huge balcony which had a table and 4 chairs. The kitchen part is perfectly adequate with very nice crockery and plenty of glasses etc.

The whole place was spotless with beautifully maintained gardens all around and the pool area was very quiet with plenty of loungers.

Our flight in to Olbia arrived late so we had to get a taxi. We had arranged this via the Residence at a cost of 70 euros, however, we were charged 80 euros - a bit steep when you consider that on our return to the airport we used the bus (a lovely comfortable coach and a lovely coast journey of about 2 hours) which cost us 6 euros each!!

We can recommend the Linus Spagetti Bar for food. The whole sea bream is delicious.

Maura, who booked us in is extremely helpful and has great English. (thankfully).

The only down thing for me was that our balcony was not south facing, so not sunny at all and as there was a bit of a wind most days it could be quite cool. This was a little disappointing but we just went down to the pool side if we wanted to laze in the sun.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room on the upper level.

Just returned from a last minute week away at these apartments. We stayed in a studio for 2 people, probably the cheapest apartment on offer - but it really had everything that 2 adults need. The small kitchenette was quite adequate for breakfast & lunch preparation. We ate out every evening in the villlage, just a few minutes walk away. The apartments were really quiet during our week, we had the poolside to ourselves everyday but could wander to the beach, directly opposite if we fancied. The whole village was very quiet, which suited us perfectly, however many of the local people told us that the resort is exceptionally busy in the peak season. We hired a car for the week, but really didn't need it. The only advise I'd offer re driving is to ensure you have really detailed directions if you are driving yourself from Olbia airport after dark - the drive should probably only take 40 minutes but took us about 1.5 hours due to poor map & directions (taken from Google). The owners of the apartments are very helpful, and speak good English if you don't speak much Italian! Our return flight wasn't until the evening but we were able to use our apartment until 17.00 in the afternoon at no extra cost. All in all we'd definatly make a return visit.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms don't have a sea view - in peak season ground floor rooms immediately next to...

My wife and I stayed at Riva Azzurra in Cannigione for two weeks over June and July 2011. We had a small apartment without a sea view - so wat? The apartment was delightful with tasteful Mediterranean decor and our little balcony (plenty of room for a table, two chairs and a clothes-horse) was surrounded by wonderful flowering shrubs. Everything was clean and well-maintained. The air conditioning was efficient and quiet. The gardens around the resort were so beautiful and the pool was great in every respect. All the staff were friendly and helpful and didn't seem to mind our bumbling efforts to speak Italian. Another visit is in our diary for next September.

Room Tip: Why bother about a sea view when you'll be spending so much time on and about the sea anyway?

We had a very comfortable stay in a 1 bed apartment. Very clean, bright and functional. Hair dryer provided and a lovely clean bathroom with good shower but no bath. Kitchen area was very small with fridge and hob but there was not a great deal of power from the gas.No oven but microwave provided. Good size balcony in room 202 with enough space for family dining. Everywhere was spotless, reception very helpful and plenty of english paperbacks to read. Pools were on the small side but it was very quiet when we were there so no problems. Took 30 mins from Olbia airport

Restaurant downstairs did excellent pizzas from 5 euros and reasonable house wine for 5 euros a half litre but other dishes were not so good. Shop bought desserts.Warch out for fish dishes. Most have a price against them but it is the price per 100g not the actual price of the dish. This applies to many restaurants. Excellent pizzeria just abou 15 mins walk west of the apartments right on beach and great food.Let me know if you need any more info
