“A Great Place to Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2010

My wife and I were on a touring holiday of Scotland and the Airds Hotel was a real highlight. We had read the reviews and thought we had chosen a good hotel and we were not wrong. The Hotel is a Gem and very relaxed, nothing is to much bother, whether you come in wet from the rain and need to warm up and dry out or just sit and read the papers. You are made to feel at home, not so much a hotel but as one of the reviews said a 'Country House'

The rooms are comfortable with everything my wife and I needed and the staff were very attentive.

The food was just superb and nothing was to much trouble, such as accommodating dietary request. The Afternoon Teas will live long in the memory - very good.

Finally, if you are in the area, it is well worth a stay - very enjoyable.

It was a pleasure to have visited this hidden gem in the sleepy village of Port Appin - a million miles away from the preasures of modern day life.

The location, ambience, service and cuisine were outstanding and a trip to this most beautiful area of Scotland would in no way be complete without visiting the home of Shaun and Jenny at The Airds Hotel.

I commend all the efforts of the team which was led by Graeme - the consumate professional and quite the host at this charming retreat.

We stayed at the Airds Hotel for five nights, and enjoyed every minute of it. The location is amazing, with beautiful views of the loch from the dining room, lounge, and garden. There is so much to do nearby, we could have easily spent a fortnight there: the nearby ferry to Lismore, the riding stables, and lots of beautiful walks being some of the highlights. At the hotel itself, there is a small putting area and croquet lawn, and a few board games (they could do with a few more!) in the lounge for when it's raining. I really like the decor of the hotel, especially the lounge.

The staff were extremely attentive without being fussy, nothing was too much trouble, and they made a special effort to get to know our preferences very quickly.

The restaurant was of a very high standard. FIrst rate service in every detail, and magnificent food. They specialise in fresh, local fish, but the meat I ate (venison and beef) was also absolutely splendid. There is a good vegetarian menu available. There was a good wine list, with a very good range of half bottles which suited me very well indeed. There was a very good range of cheeses available, served by the knowledgeable Graham. The tea was extremely good loose leaf tea. All highly recommended.

Our room was clean and comfortable, with lots of nice touches including a complimentary Whisky Mac cocktail and fresh fruit. There was free wi-fi although the signal strength was a bit erratic.

I really cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. It is small, with just eleven rooms, but this gives an intimate feel: in fact, it's rather like staying as a guest in a country house. We look forward to returning one day.

Superb hotel, as with a lot of hotels like this the staff make the difference, Airds Hotel has it just right. The room we stayed in was good and very comfortable however the restaurant makes this an outstanding place to stay, the food was better than anywhere else I've stayed in Scotland and the staff took a real pride in it. Perhaps the restaurant lacks a bit of atmosphere but this is a minor point. Hope to be back one day.

On this visit to Scotland and Ireland, we stayed at 9 B&Bs or small hotels-- Airds was our absolute favorite! Spectacular views of Loch Linnhe, interesting day trips in every direction, the most professional and well trained staff imaginable, and wonderful food. What more could we ask. Owner Shaun was ever helpful and manager Kathie was capable and charming. Great hikes from the hotel with recovery in spotless, comfortable rooms. We will definitely return to Airds!

My partner and I had the most wonderful stay at this hotel. The location is glorious and the view from our room was breathtaking. The staff were very attentive. Our bedroom was lovely and spotless, as were the drawing room and dining room. However, the real reason to stay at this hotel is to enjoy the AMAZING FOOD!! Paul Burns is one of the great chefs of Britain. His ingredients are local and extremely fresh. Every course was magnificent and the tasting menu, which we had on our last night, was remarkable. Be sure to sample the complementary Whiskey Mac in your room. The rate for dinner, bed and breakfast was very reasonable for lodging and dining of this quality. Very highly recommended!!

We have just been back to The Airds and once again it was great! This is such a special place with fabulous staff, wonderful scenery and the best food in Scotland. We can't praise the staff enough - there are usually three hotels we choose to stay in from time to time in Scotland and The Airds always comes out top in terms of food, comfort and service.

We can recommend it to anyone who loves their food and enjoys a romantic and intimate setting with such lovely staff.
