“Totally relaxing...”
Reviewed 20 March 2013

My husband and I recently visited Porthcawl to visit relatives and to try out the new Coastal path as we love walking. We were delighted with the accommodation and welcome at Foam Edge. Our spacious room overlooked the sea and had spectacular views. The whole house is very tastefully and elegantly furnished throughout and our bathroom certainly had the wow factor with granite surfaces, White porcelain, slate, chrome and an array of lights, particularly liked the mirrors with the led lights and the huge walk-in shower. Luxurious bathrobes were provided along with many other thoughtful touches.
Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of alternatives to the traditional breakfast. We spent hours sitting in the enclosed balcony of the bedroom watching the world go by and reading...also loved the unexpected free wifi, as this is not advertised on the website.
We had such a lovely time in this friendly, well run guest house that we have booked return in July.

We cant complain about the cleanliness. The room looked nice and the view was glorious. But: we have spent two nights in winter there where there has been only a one kilowatt fire which was inappropriate for this room. When we explained that the next morning after a truly extreme cold night to the host, she first offered us an electric blanket but we wanted the room to get warm. She then brought us an oil radiator which has done its job. But then next shock.... no warm water in the shower in the morning. Dining room also without any central heating. Again only a one kilowatt fire which was definitely not heating anything beside the feet of the person sitting in front of it. This guest house was on the top of the price list for B&B. The host was understanding but we were absolutely disappointed.

Many thanks for taking the time and effort to write your review. My main objective is to offer a comfortable and enjoyable stay for all guests and I am genuinely sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. I take all reviews very seriously.

I agree that the room had been chilly, the weekend which you stayed was bitterly cold and windy as it has been for a while here in the UK, unfortunately, and was pleased to hear that you warmed up.
I feel that it is very important to get the temperature right in the house and am aware that some may feel the cold more than others. Foam Edge has central heating in all rooms, which is normally efficient, however, with such extremes of weather which we have been experiencing, it is more difficult to keep the house warm especially as the doors are opening more frequently..
You mentioned on depature that you had a problem with the shower that morning as the water was cold and the 'low pressure' light was on. I understand that this is a safety mechanism with electric showers and are designed to cut out with any low water pressure as a precaution and I fully understand your disappointment.
I was unaware that you also felt cold in the dining room, as it was a very cold morning I switched on the supplementary electric stove type fire which is normally very warm and throws out a lot of heat. Please accept my apologies, I didnt realise that this was the case.
It was lovely to meet you both and I really enjoyed our conversations and your company at breakfast time.
I would also like to take this oppurtunity to thank you for scoring Foam Edge 5 out of 5 for cleanliness, service, location and rooms and also 3 out of 5 for value and sleep quality.

Lovely rooms, great hosts and fab breakfast. Would not hesitate to recommend this B&B jewel to anyone and we will definitely return as and when looking to stay for a night or two in Porthcawl! Helen went out of her way to find a hangover cure, and the Foamedge special was really good.

The ratings on here say it all. My wife and I not knowing about this classy Guest House tried to get booked into a nearby Hotel - lucky us that the Hotel was full. We found this lovely place to stay, Albeit for one night because we were seeing a show.

Having stayed in 5* hotels and in some cases being disappointed, I would not hesitate to stay here again, and have no fear in recommending it to anyone who likes a cut above the rest.

Our host Helen was lovely and helpful. The location of the home was sensational. We had a wonderful ocean view. The room was beautifully decorated and well appointed. The bed was so cosy. One of the best B & B s we have stayed at!

We were very impressed with Foam Edge, situated on the seafront in Porthcawl with stunning views from our room which was named Tusker Rock. We had an excellent night sleep in the super kingsize bed, the room itself was very quiet and had many thoughtful little extras. The house is tastefully decorated throughout with attention to detail. There is plenty to choose from on the breakfast menu, must try the Foam Edge special. We were pleasantly surprised with the choice of restaurants within walking distance, it's a 5 minute walk into the town.
Helen was very welcoming and made us feel at home instantly. We will be returning and highly recommend this spotless, well run Guest House.
