We have been back and fro to the Rose and Crown for a few years and you could say that room 11 is like our second home.Staff always friendly and the chef makes a yummy sticky toffee pudding.Bye bye waist line.!!!.Back in September and October. Also good luck to the future Mrs Beckensdale. Chris and Ian.

Another great stay at the Rose but since my last stay and review I feel that things have actually gone backwards a little. The staff as always are excellent and the food is great but they need to start addressing the quality of the rooms. Since the major refit and Brains taking over the rooms have had very little work on them. Sunday morning we had no cold water and this has been mentioned by other reviewers, the door to our room (No 3) needs quite some effort to close, the walls have marks from bags and the bathroom is showing signs of mold on the lovely slate tiles. A couple of days and a pot of paint would soon sort these out but I worry that the Rose is resting on its laurels. Nottage has no other places to stay but if one came up the Rose would be in trouble. Please sort out the rooms to match the quality of the food and staff!

Thank you for your feedback, we will be addressing these Issues within the coming weeks/months and we have resolved some Issues such as the door closer on Room 3 and the part that was causing low water pressure. Your comments will be discussed with the relevant people.

We hope to see you again and thank you for staying with us.

I have been to the Porthcawl area many many times before but have never called in this pub. I wish I had sooner cos this place is really lovely. You that you can sit in, with family and friends and have a relaxing meal without feeling rushed because the table is needed. None of this 'get them in, feed them, get them out' mentality. The food is generally good and the staff are very helpful. There are no undesirables that hang around the bar and stare just because your not a local. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. If the weather is sunny there is a lovely big grassy area opposite outside the front of the pub where the children could play safely. Well worth a visit.

Stayed here for two nights, rooms were fine (except for the cold water pressure which made the shower a bit of a lottery). Ate in the hotel on Sunday night, most of the things we ordered were unavailable, and the meal itself was disappointing (it was as if they had run out of food). portion size was poor and not particularly good value for money. Monday breakfast was good, Tuesday breakfast was obviously a different cook and was not as good. Handy location, the White Swan is a short walk away and was a more welcoming bar.

We are sorry that your stay was effected by a maintenance Issue that we can not resolve on site at first hand, a faulty part has now been replaced and the water pressure is now back to normal.

I can only apologize for a lack of food items being available to you, we will be making alterations to ensure that we have sufficient stock levels but sometimes we are at the mercy of the weather and this increases demand.

We hope this does not deter you from future visits.

Best Wishes,
Rose & Crown

We used this as a hotel base for one night while visiting the area for a wedding so apart from the very good breakfast we did not eat here which was a pity as I could happily have stayed another night or two. In a period building a little to far outside of Porthcawl to walk the rooms were very good, large enough and well fitted considering the age of the original building and a grade or two above what you will find in Porthcawl itself. The very limited car parking for what is a very popular restaurant bar was perhaps the only drawback, though the excellent Brains real ale on tap probably balances that out for me. Overall though it was the staff that made our short stay. They were simply excellent and very helpful with our few requests making this hotel definitely a reason to return to the area as we are visiting family.

Room Tip: Room eleven is new and larger than most.

Great pub in Porthcawl, in the picturesque Nottage.

Warm welcome, delicious meal and beautiful pub.

I had the garlic mushrooms to start which were divine and the belly pork with rhubarb and sage mash as main, which was cooked beautifully. Finished off with a delicious Mario's white chocolate ice cream, perfect on such a sunny day.

Really enjoyed a drink in the secret garden area (to the left of the pub).

Service was excellent! I will definitely be back and can not wait to stay in the hotel in June!
