Superb links course in excellent condition and well worthy of hosting the upcoming major competition. The members and staff are very friendly and some of the memorabilia in the Clubhouse is fascinating. The building itself is an eclectic and unusual mix but the bar snacks are not up to the standard of everything else.

The course, even after a rough winter, was in great shape and a pleasure to play. The staff were friendly and helpful and I will definitely be returning

Royal Porthcawl is a great links course, head and shoulders above anything else in Wales. This is also true for the quality of the changing rooms, bar etc, but sadly not the food, which is more average golfclub fare.

You do pay for the pleasure and they insist on full payment rather the usual deposit when you book, just like other premium venues.

What is different from other premium venues is that it has been quiet and peaceful on all four days I have visited, which in my mind adds a lot to the enjoyment as you and your friends can play at your own pace. I mean, what is the point of paying top money to stand and look at other people hacking their way around the course while you are waiting to play?
A final word which illustrates the ambition of this place. Take a look at the photos from the storm damage this winter when you come to the clubhouse, you will appreciate the recovery they have managed in just a few months. Other courses have not been as lucky, or had the budget....

Manicured greens and faiways with many hidden bunkers. Pro very helpful, food pretty good. Would not recommend the Dormy accomadation. Looked very uninviting. Try the Rose and Crown

What a wonderful experience I had at this amazing natural beauty.
I can see why the 2015 Senior Open Championship is to be played here.
This undoubtedly was the highlight of my Wales golf odyssey . The pro shop staff were very friendly and helpful. The condition of the course was 1st class. Whilst the clubhouse is not huge it is perfect for a cold beer after your walk over this fabulous layout. Don't miss a chance to play there. I will return!!
