“Shouldn't be allowed to call itself a hotel”
Reviewed 7 May 2014

If you don't really sleep at night, or you like a lullaby in the form of heavy bass music at 200 decibels - this is the place for you! I kid you not, the music was so loud the cups and saucers were vibrating across the desk!

The hotel itself is very dated and tired but adequate if you just was a place to crash. We were here as part of a work organised weekend so I had no control over the bookings. As soon as I read the reviews here I knew we were in for trouble. We work with loud machinery so I advised everyone to bring earplugs - they proved to be of no use, this is how loud the place is!

It should just remain as a nightclub or hotel, not both. We came back late one night and saw all of four people in the nightclub. Why bother upsetting your patrons when the nightlife is dead?

I will end on a positive however. The location is very good and the meals are fantastic. Decent price and very hearty.

Room Tip: Don't book this place if you require sleep!

We were slightly nervous about staying here as we'd read some awful reviews on here but we were pleasantly surprised that we experienced nothing like other reviewers. (Im guessing they must be fake.) Becky was the first member of staff we met, she was friendly and professional. The hotel is situated above a nightclub so it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out there will be noise, if it bothers you that much I'm sure it wouldn't take much to be moved to the next floor up or further away. The place is very clean, in the way of decor I would say its tired but this does not mean rough n ready like we read on another review. We plan to go back as a family group and take the kids. The breakfast was lovely, the staff were friendly and chatty. We were cold when we first got in the room so remembered a review that they froze all night!!! Its a simple trick... turn the radiator up!!! Simple!
All in all an excellent weekend, thankyou Becky and all the staff at the porthcawl hotel.

We stayed at this hotel and encountered none of the problems of previous reviewers.
After booking in we went to our allocated room, which we found several corridors and staircases later. The corridors and staircases needed redecorating and a couple of the corridors smelt fusty.
The receptionist was pleasant ( she wasn't the red haired one mentioned previously )
The room itself although was basic, it was clean and spacious with a clean en suite bathroom.
We did not hear any noise at all from the nightclub or anywhere else at any time.
We did not eat in the hotel, so i can't pass comment on the food.
The hotel is central to the town, so it is in an excellent position for the beach, town centre and night life.
It does not have a car park, but there is a free car park just a short distance away to the rear of the hotel.
For the price i can't find anything to grumble about at all.

This has a good location in the centre of town with a council car park round the corner, but this is limited to 2 hours during the day. It needs a complete refurb, but it is very good value for money. I was there for one night for business. I am not at all sure if I would like to take my family there. A straight forward working mans hotel. Nice bar and breakfast was ok. Staff were friendly, gave good advice where to leave my car for free for the next day. had a nice bar meal in the evening

Stayed here for the weekend with my wife the rooms were basic but very clean. all the staff were very friendly and willing to help. There was live entertainment in the bar on the saturday night and we had a free pass into the night club included in the price. The food in the hotel was lovely and a good price. All in all was a lovely wekend and good value for money and will be returning.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the third floor as you will be away from nightclub.

We have been returning to this hotel for the past 10 years and we will never be returning again!!
we booked with our friends only to find our rooms had been doubled booked so we had to stay elsewhere,we then went on to have a few Christmas drinks at the hotel with our friends which was great we later returned in the evening to a man who called him self the OWNER of the hotel what an arrogant thing he was, trying to throw my husband out and accusing him of all sorts of things,we are so discussed with the way he treated us he's a disgrace to porthcawl because we will never return here again, talking to other people including the staff at the hotel he does this on a regular basis, and I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.
