“A " must visit"”

We visited this chateau on a beautiful day in September enhancing its fairy tale style. It's worth taking the time to read about the amazing life of Josephine Baker before you go. The chateau has been kept in original condition from her day with photos around various rooms to confirm this, including a room dedicated to her involvement with The Resistance. There are photos also of some of the children she adopted to make her Rainbow Tribe. The whole experience should not be missed.. There is a gift shop and café where the prices are very reasonable and the staff very helpful. There is a falconry show but we chose not to stay for that.

“Worth a look if you are in the area.”

We stayed a few nights close by and had heard of this chateau and its association with Josephine Baker. The surrounding gardens are beautiful and the chateau is very interesting to see including some of the costumes and personal effects of Josephine Baker. We had a nice lunch in the cafe and watched the bird show. We really enjoyed it and would recommend it to others.

“See this for sure”

Tucked away in a small village, this lovely chateau is beautifully renovated. More importantly, it describes the professional life of Josephine Baker that makes the tour complete. There is an added falconry show mid-afternoon that contributes to the wonderful experience.

What an uplifting & interesting experience at Chateau des Milandes today, close to the Dordogne River.
We didn't know much about Josephine Baker before, but the fairy tale castle where she lived for a decent chunk of her life does a great job of telling her story.
Revealing insights into her stellar career, fight for civil rights, love of children, Resistance support and sad demise. All done with her music wafting through the airy castle.
The impeccably maintained gardens and bird of prey exhibition add some broader interest.

“Our favorite Dordogne castle!”

Plenty to see in this elegant Renaissance palace once owned by Josephine Baker. She's there in effigy (wax), and in the music of her delightful singing all around you.
A lot of her original furniture has been reassembled by the present owner. A couple of times a day, there is an exciting raptor presentation with huge falcons and owls--not to be missed.
